If you have some days in the Kuala Lumpur area, you should go to Malakka. A wonderful city with a colonial city center, a lot of temples and - of course - an amazing china town. Try the riceballs!
You should not go by bus. Take it easy and go by car. Paul is a secure driver and he will bring you safe to your destination.
Without a guide like Paul you will not understand the history of Malakka and the story behind the buildings. Paul is a fantastic storyteller, from whom I learned not only a lot about the history of the city, I also get deeper into the malaysian way of life.

We really enjoyed our tour of Malacca with Hoopy. She was knowledgeable and flexible. We told her we were interested in history, and she took us to see some great historical sights. In addition, we had a delicious lunch of Peranakan food. I mention her flexibility because my wife lost her glasses (they fell off her chain), and we spent a bit of time looking for them (luckily, we found them). But it didn't feel like we missed any of the tour. We also went shopping for batiks. We had a great time and would highly recommend Hoopy!Great trip to Malacca!

Hoopy thought she might be late to pick us up (due to unexpected weekend diversions) and kept us informed. She weaved her magic and was only 5 mins late.
A pleasant drive from KL to Melaka with discussion on various matters.
Hoopy took us on a marvellous walking tour of Melaka, with so much to see and absorb. Hoopy was very helpful in providing commentary, suggesting good photo spots, and ensuring the tour was at your pace. We stopped for a great lunch, and then more walking and a river cruise.
The drive back to KL took 3.5 hours. We weren't the only ones enjoying Melaka.
Thank you Hoopy, we hope to meet again.Melaka meanderings with Hoopy

We enjoyed discovering Melaka with Paul, specially the babanyonya history as that was totally new to us. We visited the town at a leisurely pace and Paul took us to a lovely nyonya restaurant where we treated him to lunch before going to the Heritage centre which was fascinating. He timed the visit well and we got back to KL without being stuck in the infamous trafic jams. Interesting and well-organised day

Hoopy is a very (but not to much) enthousiastic guide. She was super punctual (always on time), very flexible in her program (adding things to see) and she told us a lot about the history, background and culture of places we visited. Paul was very capable at crafting an experience in Melaka for our particular situation - traveling with an elderly parent who uses a walker / wheelchair and has limited ability to walk. We were able to experience the unique history of Melaka without exceeding Mom’s ability. He is multilingual and able to share information in Mandarin for Mom and English for son-in-law. We asked him to find a unique Nyonya restaurant for lunch and he was able to do this for us as well. A good and careful driver he was prompt, courteous and kind. When Mom was tired Paul was able to flex his plans to finish off the day and get us back to our hotel in good shape. You won’t regret hiring Paul to show you around. A very resourceful guide

I hired TK for two day trips out of KL: Malacca on day 1 and the Cameron Highlands on day 2. This review is for the day 2 trip to the Cameron Highlands.
I want to be up front: TK warned me that traveling to the Cameron Highlands from KL would be a long trip. To make it worse, the weather had been rainy (increasing the possibility of landslides) AND the day I chose for the trip was a holiday weekend. He warned me I should expect a minimum six hour round trip drive. He recommended that I plan a multi-day trip, but unfortunately my schedule did not allow it. I was stubborn and said, "it's okay - let's do it!"
TK has a great personality. He is friendly, and as soon as I got into the car he made me feel at ease. He constantly checked in on me, making sure I was comfortable. Because of the threats of landslides, TK brought along an extra person in case the car got stuck and needed to be pushed free. I felt the three of our personalities meshed very well and there was never an awkward or unwelcome lull in the conversation. We continued our conversations from the day before, and I learned more about Malaysia's history and culture. That is good, because it was a LONG trip!
The first leg of journey was around three hours. We stopped at a couple highway rest stops along the way to stretch our legs, use the restrooms, and pick up snacks (such as ondeh-ondeh - so good!). Our first Cameron Highlands stop was for breakfast (roti canai and sambal).
After breakfast we had a short drive to the Time Tunnel museum, an eclectic collection of historical Malaysian pop culture, national history, and the history of the Cameron Highlands region all bundled up with a pick-your-own-strawberry farm. From there we began the crawl towards the Boh Tea Plantation, an 8 km drive which took us over 2 hours to complete due to the insanely heavy traffic! We originally planned to stop for a hotpot lunch, but instead pushed on to the plantation where we had a delicious meal of pastries, some savory and some sweet. The views from and through the plantation were wonderful!
After lunch we visited a local fruit and vegetable market where I got to taste local corn, Malaysian fried chicken, and some other fruits that I'm still not 100% sure what their English names are...
By this time it was past 3:00pm, so we decided to head back to KL. Fortunately the traffic wasn't as bad and we made it back to the city in around 3 1/2 hours.
This was a fun trip and I'm glad I went, but I think it was the company that really made it so enjoyable! If I was to ever go back I think I would take TK's initial advice and not do it as a day trip. The drive is so long that there isn't much time to explore. At least one full day in addition to the day of arrival and day of departure would make a lot more sense.Nice day trip to the Cameron Highlands

If you want a nice relaxed tour of historic KL, this is your tour. We visited some neat places and the flea markets and temples were very fun to see. I did find myself standing around a bit wishing we could move on to the next area. However, I move through things extremely fast. An hour at a museum is too much in my mind. My mother would have wished she didn’t have to walk so far. Everyone is different. It was worth the price and time.Relaxed paced tour of old KL.

I had a spare day to fill in Kuala Lumpur and a trip to Malacca fitted the bill. I am very dubious about organised trips and much prefer to try to explore hidden parts of a city, preferably on foot, and learn more about the culture of the country and its people. Manjeet delivered this brief and more. Importantly I chose a woman because I felt I was likely to be safe but I also chose Manjeet from her profile. I was pleased she was free that day. It was an excellent trip and I learned a lot during the drive as well as in Malacca itself. Laksa and cincau in a hidden suburb were delicious. Manjeet was a great host who I would definitely recommend. This was my first booking with WithLocals but it will not be my last. Next time I will know more about the process and that it may be possible to tailor a trip. Ideal Malacca trip

Povan wasn't available even the booking went through and got confirmed. He referred his colleague as the subtitude, who is a very good guide.
However, the tour quality does not match the price of US$235 for two.
Again, it is at no fault of the tour guide, who was very knowledgeable and pleasant.
My recommendation is to improve the quality of the tour to make it worths the price.
Thanks.

Our group of 4 enjoyed a great private tour in the heart of KL’s Chinatown with Siddoz and his trainee (Steve?). Siddoz was firstly very patient and understanding as we were delayed in KL traffic for ~15 mins.
He catered to my fussy parents, explained the dishes we were trying and introduced us to foods we wouldn’t have ordinarily tried. He also took us to a couple of really cool spots for photo ops, some of the best photos on our holiday (thanks Steve, our personal photographer too!).
They were both very personable, felt like chatting to old friends. Culinary and cultural adventure through KL

We had requested a food tour focused on authentic local cuisine and street food that the locals eat here. I am a foodie and amateur cook myself, having lived and worked on three continents – most recently for three years in China. My interest always lies in the true local cuisines of ordinary people. I had not yet experienced Malaysian cuisine firsthand. Through Siddoz, we learned more about this cuisine in one evening than we could have on our own in a week. It was entertaining, delicious, and interesting. Highly recommended!Great Introduction into Local Cuisine

Adnan is a class act! Picked us up at the hotel and took us to Batu Caves. Pleasant conversation during the ride and walk. Lots of great insights into the history of the area afterwards, he recommended the hot springs and water falls. This was a much more local experience and the family really enjoyed it. At the end, he dropped us off at our destination of choice (which was good because a huge thunderstorm hit shortly after). Vehicle was clean, comfortable, and made the experience better! We had a wonderful day exploring Kuala Lumpur with Hoopy. She seamlessly wove together the city’s rich multicultural essence with insightful storytelling, warmth, and deep respect for each heritage.
From the awe-inspiring Batu Caves Temple, where we learned about Hindu traditions against the backdrop of a towering Lord Murugan statue, to witnessing the delicate craftsmanship behind Malaysia’s traditional Batik, every stop was an immersion into history and artistry. The visit to the magnificent Thean Hou Temple was a highlight, where she beautifully explained the spiritual and architectural significance of this Chinese landmark.
What truly set her apart was her kindness and attentiveness—ensuring we were comfortable, engaged, and left with a genuine appreciation for Kuala Lumpur’s diverse cultures. If you’re looking for a guide who is not only knowledgeable but also caring and passionate, she is an absolute gem!A Warm and Insightful Cultural Tour of KL

My wife and I opted for a local food tour guide having done something similar some yrs ago in a couple of European cities. Manjeet was so much more than a food guide. Her love of her brief was obvious from the start. Easily the most genuine guide we have ever had. She took great pride in explaining the foods available in KL and delight in our positive responses, which was easy as they were fantastic. She also was very knowledgeable in the history and politics of the area which is a huge bonus as we are history buffs ." Having less than 24 hours in Kuala Lumpur my wife and I wanted to experience the food and culture as best we could in that short space of time for our first night of our honeymoon - we booked a street food tour with May.
The tour was excellent. May, local to the area, took us to the Pasar Malam Taman Connaught night market. She was extremely welcoming, knowledgable and fun. We walked and ate our way through the market, trying a variety of dishes, sweet and savoury - all delicious. May caters to your taste through getting to know you and what you like/dislike.

From start to finish our tour was like being with a knowledgeable friend. Being taken around by a native KL-er who was as passionate about food as we all are was such a treat. Being taken to local food spots that probably we might not have had the confidence to try and eating/drinking Malaysian food with a lovely friendly local lady was such a treat. Be warned - you will be full if not before the end, at the end. Manjeet has a blog and also loads of tips about other places in Malaysia that she herself has visited many times. A brilliant experience that we won’t forget. Highly recommend Manjeet - such a pleasure. Best food/culture tour ever

All the while explaining us what we were eating, why it is special and liked. In the end we were all very full, happy and quite a bit smarter.

Manjeet is a great person, so nice, so knowledgeable.
She already contacted us before our trip with tips and recommendation.
For the tour, she picked us up at our hotel in KL downtown and took us to a Chinese temple.
Then we drove back to Chinatown and she showed us many corners we would have never seen. We visited a Hindu temple, too and also were helped to taste some food on our tour without a doubt of what we eat could not be safe. She found a boba tea place to the wish of our daughter (11).
Manjeet is so enjoyable, she answered all of our questions, she resonated with our children and we had good conversations and a really great time together.
Would definitely recommend Manjeet and would for sure meet with her again if in KL next time. This is faboulus 🤩

Hoopy picked us up at our hotel in downtown KL. Her car is nice and clean, she brought water for all of us.
During the trip to the caves, she gave us many information about Malaysia, the different groups, the food and some history. The trip took quite some time due to the rush hour.
We were early which was good as it was not yet crowded and Hoopy guided us through the site and let us know some basics about Hindu religion.
Although the statue, stairs and carves are impressive, the dirtiness of the site was a little bit disappointing.
After the caves, Hoopy took us to the waterfalls and we enjoyed coconut and swimming in the pools. She took care of us at all times and did not look after each minute of the tour.
Hoopy dropped us in Chinatown and gave us some good tips for the rest of our stay.
We would recommend Hoopy as very friendly guide, just do not expect each of your questions to be answered.
We would probably not go to Batu caves again but as said it was impressive.Nice guide, Batu caves maybe overrated
