Riccardo is a fantastic tour guide. He knows so much about medieval history and the mosaics at Ravenna. I have a PhD in history and I walked away with so much new knowledge! Luana Puccini conducted a private half-day tour of Ravenna for my wife and me. She put together a fantastic itinerary that lead us to the highlights of the town. She advised us on which train to take from Bologna to meet her in Ravenna and she met us at the train station and walked with us to the medieval center. Her knowledge and expertise was in great depth. She arranged a lunch for us at a local hotspot where we were able to have local cuisine specialties. But for the extreme heat we could have spent much longer exploring Ravenna's magnificent cultural heritage. Luana freely gave of her expertise and welcomed questions, of which we had many. We had a wonderful time on our tour of Ravenna with Eletta. We met her at the train station in Bologna and took the train with her to Ravenna. On the train, she explained Italian history and how it related to what we saw. She bought all the tickets in advance and we were able to quickly move through any lines to see the beautiful mosaics. Eletta is an art professor and an expert in art history. She explained all of the dazzling artwork. There is no way that we could have navigated all of the sites on our own in one day. We had a delicious lunch at the beautiful market. She kindly helped us order, as most of the servers did not speak English. She also stopped twice for us to have a cappuccino. Somehow I got the date wrong but Riccardo was accomodating and waited for us. I do not know how someone can remember so much detail and present it in such an interesting way. The places he took us to were incredible and so much more interesting when the context is explained. He took us to an excellent fish cafe for lunch. We thought this was a great tour. We have done quite a few guided tours and this was a very strong one. The UNESCO-designated sites in Ravenna are really interesting and Luana was a terrific guide. She is very knowledgeable about the history and the art, and she was great company. In addition to showing us around the sites and giving us helpful context and background, she arranged for us to get lunch at a terrific restaurant. Overall, it was a delightful day.Fantastic Tour

We had a wonderful, educational day with Riccardo. He met us at the train station in Bologna and drove us in his car to Ravenna. He gave us a thorough but focused tour of the ancient sites—both in the center of the city and one on the outskirts of town. The tile work was beautiful and amazing. Riccardo helped us to focus on the most pertinent and interesting items. It would have been hard to do that on our own. We stopped with him for a small lunch of piadine on the square. All in all it was a wonderful day!! Busy day visiting Byzantium—in Ravenna!

Stephanie provided our small group of four a wonderful, informative and lovely tour of the historic center of Bologna. Fredrik was prompt, friendly, and well informed. We were there on a Sunday which was challenging, but he exceeded expectations. The history, food, and traditions were well explained. we had a disastrous time with our 2 bookings with this organisation and were mucked around so much we finished up cancelling one of the planned tours. But finally and after much correspondence we got Paolo and all the problems were forgotten. He was great and showed us a side of the Bolognaise food we had never seen before. We spent a lovely morning with Paolo. He was both knowledgeable and entertaining. He was also very patient with our questions and at the times we took a little longer than necessary - balsamic vinegar tasting for example, this was great fun! I think though rather than a food tour I would recommend a historical walking tour of Bologna as you can get the food everywhere, at your own pace. Charismatic and informative

This is my favorite Riccardo moment—entering a nondescript residential building and showing us a 16th century circular staircase designed in the mannerist style—then walking us to the top of the steps to take in a breathtaking view of the city. We were the only people there. Riccardo’s story to tell is that Bologna is one of the most well-preserved cities in Europe, and that one didn’t need to go to a museum to see these wonders—they were everywhere, on the streets, in the buildings where people live and work. Medieval houses with original wood frames? Medieval towers? Look around you. Want to see a painting by Fillipino Lippi, not on a museum wall, but hanging in the exact location where it was painted for? Here you go. He knows his history, art history, and had boundless energy. Bologna really came alive with his tour—a living city with a rich history. Highly recmmend. Bringing Bologna to Life
