Our guide ,Manuel, was super accomodating, helpful and knowledgable and made us enjoy our day trip to Verona. The restaurant that he recommended for lunch, Trattoria Fluviale Vecio Mulin, was so good and tucked away, as only a local would know as it was what we wanted. This was our second tour with Martina during this stay in Verona. Martina was simply exceptional in looking after us on this occasion also. She arranged for her boyfriend Henny to take host us for the initial part of the tour. We thoroughly enjoyed his company during the wine tasting. Alessandro was a great tour guide. He was able to accommodate a short notice tour and we saw some really great things. He had a lot of information about the area and was easy to talk to. Unfortunately a lot of sites were closed down during our time there, but Alessandro was able to make up for that by showing us more off the beaten path sites and took us to an incredible winery. We were looking forward to experiencing the local food culture of Verona, but unfortunately, this tour didn’t quite meet our expectations. While our guide, Alessandro, was kind and personable, the tour felt more like a general walk through the city’s history rather than a curated culinary experience. The tastings were limited—just gelato, pizza, affogato, and a small wine sample—far fewer than the 10 tastings we were expecting. Additionally, it didn’t feel like the stops were pre-planned or coordinated with the food venues, which took away from the sense of a well-organized experience. We’ve done food tours in other cities that felt more immersive and thoughtfully put together, with a stronger focus on local specialties. While Verona is a beautiful city with so much to offer, we were hoping for a deeper dive into its unique food culture. With some adjustments and more attention to the culinary aspect, this tour could become a great experience. Alessandro was an amazing host in Verona. He met us close to our rental and took us through all the highlights of the city. It was hot but we didn’t mind because the history and beauty of the city came to life. He gave us great tips for dinner and we had the most amazing ice cream in the world!! If you are considering it, do it! Alessandro was a fantastic guide, full of knowledge about the local area and food. Often sharing where he would go and what he would eat - great recommendations! We spent three hours with Alessandro on one of the hottest days of the year so far. The Affogatos were a great way to start the tour. We loved the tapas style lunch and local wines and oils to try. Gelatos, cannoli, granitas all appreciated too! All the information related to historical Verona through the ages and how it has become the beautiful, eclectic city it is now. Never rushed, Alessandro became part of our group of 6 walking around the city. He tailored the food and tour to our questions, likes and requests … but also added far more than we expected! We were fortunate to book a tour of Verona with Alessandro recently. Him being born and raised in Verona provided us with an intimate glimpse into what Verona is all about. Having studied and worked in the US his command of the English language was perfect. At every turn of the tour he provided fascinating information regarding our next encounter, such as the meaning of the crenels on bridges and buildings. he also made sure we were introduced to the local food. I always read these reviews and think "it's a bot, or paid advertising", so let me start by saying I'm neither. Just a traveler from another country trying to have the best experience possible in Italy and Alessandro made that happen. Before even meeting he was extremely helpful in finding locations and restruants in near by cities and helping to navigate certain aspects that may be confusing for a foreigner. For our tour, sadly it was a rainy day, but it didn't stop us. He expertly guided us through the beautiful city of Verona pointing out things that anyone but a local would miss. Sharing stories of his personal past along side historic facts that were awe inspiring. He is truly a man of the people, everywhere we went we bumped into locals he knew and shared a laugh (and even a glass of wine). To put it plainly, we started with the best hot chocolate we've ever had, ended with the best pasta we've ever had and everything between was absolute perfetto!! We had a wonderful day with Alessandro. It was an easy tour from the beginning. He picked us up at our hotel (right on time) and off we went into the countryside! He took the time to show us several beautiful spots along the way to Lake Garda. The winery at the end was really lovely. We got to meet the owners and it felt very special. We booked a day trip to Lake Garda and the surrounding area with Alessandro on February 13 25, He was prompt to the hotel and our journey was on. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate, it was foggy and drizzly. But Alessandro did his best to keep us entertained. We stopped at several villages and took in the history of the area. We met Manuel at the Porta Borsari and immediately felt welcome and at ease. He delighted us with facts about Verona, its history, lifestyle and customs. Christina was super nice and a great host and took us to some cool little local spots and we enjoyed some simple fare from caffe to bruschetta, to arancini, to Campari spritz, and a few other good bites. Nothing extraordinary in the culinary department but overall just what we wanted in a quick tour of Verona for our first time in the city. During our evening walk we managed to take in many of the sights including Juliette’s balcony and we passed by the Basilica di Santa Anastasia, Piazza dei Signori, Castelvecchio, the Arena de Verona, and several other historical gems within a stone’s throw of the Roman gate (cloaked for renovations). We have been on a lot of tasting tours in various cities. We do it as a way to acclimate ourselves. Alessandro’s tour wasn’t the typical where you eat something, walk a couple blocks, eat something else. He took us out on the town in his city. He showed it to us as a proud son of Verona, imbuing history and coloring it with the personal. We did duck into places to try a nibble here or sit down in one place to try several bites. One eatery he wanted to showcase wasn’t open, but it was okay. He gave us recommendations for the rest of our stay—many of which we tried. His recommendations were spot on. Martina picked us up at our apartments and drove us to the Valpolicella region where we enjoyed tastings at two different wineries. Martina, being from a wine-making family, had great background knowledge of the area and the processes in the vineyard and the winery leading to the production of the final product. An enthusiastic, interactive and genial host, Martina was able to convey the knowledge in a complete way and increased our understanding of the different requirements to produce the finished products emanating from the region. We went to her friends winery first and had an introductory wine tasting, paired with local cheeses and meats (yummy!), then on to Martina's family winery wit more exploration of the processes and tastings of their selected wines (excellent). But not only the wine - before we returned to Verona we were treated to a scenic tour through the hills overlooking Verona, including the views from a retreat/ monastic area which were spectacular. All in all a wonderful excursion into the world of wines in this region. Alessandro came up with a fantastic personalised tour of Monte Baldo and its beautiful forests and mountain scenery and then we went along the shoreline of Lake Garda. Starting at the dramatically beautiful north end of the lake, down to the more popular and picturesque southern villages. He was informative and friendly and knew the best views, gelato stops, prettiest towns and food spots along the way.
