We spent a wonderful day in family with Loan in Ninh Binh. Before the trip we were able to coordinate everything in detail and Loan fulfilled our wish to swap the bird park for another attraction. Ich hatte zwei Touren mit Vu. Eine Halong Buch Tour und diese. Vu ist sehr freundlich und sehr kompetent, der Fahrer ebenfalls. Ich bat um weitere Stopps als Teil dieser Tour, was mir ermöglicht wurde. Außerdem schlug Vu ebenfalls weitere Stopps vor. Was mir nicht klar war, war die Geografie, was allerdings mit kurzer Erklärung Sinn macht. Man sieht Bilder von Booten, die Flüssen entlang fahren, welche sich durch gelbe Reisfelder winden. Zum einen sind es keine Flüsse, sondern stehende Gewässer, zum anderen ist der Wasserspiegel natürlich unterhalb der Reisfelder und somit sieht man die gelbe Bracht nicht. Vu organisierte eine Bootsfahrt, welche durch mehrere Höhlen führte. Dies gab der 90-minütigen Bootsfahrt Abwechslung und sorgte für interessante Foto / Videomotive. Die lokalen Anbieter von Fahrrädern, Booten und Restaurants mit welchen Vu arbeitet sind alle sehr freundlich. Zwar konnte ich mich nicht mit ihnen verständigen, aber hatte immer ein positives Gefühl. Alles in allem: Diese Tour ist wirklich empfehlenswert!Sehr empfehlenswert!

We had an amazing day with Loan. Our first stop takes us to Hoa Lu, the ancient capital. Loan gave us great information about historical details, traditions and religions. We had very tasty traditional food at a local restaurant, and we were shown the life of local people. In the afternoon we had an amazing and relaxing bicycle ride on the nature site of Tam Coc. Loan told us a lot about Vietnam, his culture und his inhabitants. We could see rice fields, water buffalos, and so on and visited caves and the Bird Park. My wife and I booked a day tour to Hoa Lu and Tam Coc this past January. We had a fantastic day with our guide Loan, who picked us on time at our hotel in Hanoi. The combination of activities was just the perfect balance between visiting the Hoa Lu ancient capital, a tasty lunch in a small local restaurant, a nice bicycle ride on the peaceful roads around Tam Coc, a visit to the "Mermaid Cave" (where we were practically alone) and finally a very quiet, non-touristy, peaceful small boat ride in the Thung Nam bird sanctuary. This is exactly what we were hoping for, away from the tourists crowds, and Withlocals delivered! Loan knew exactly the pace we wanted, and shared her valuable knowledge with us. Luan arranged the trip according to my wishes to be out of the touristic crowds and always made sure I felt comfortable. We did three tours while in Hanoi, we did a hanoibicycletour in a torrential downpour, but had a blast, we got to know Hanoi through its stomach with a ha Street food tour which was incredible then we took the non touristy trip to tam coc... We figure the reason it is the path less travelled was that it is rubbish. Our host had neither the passion or desire of the guys on the aforementioned tours, while the tour also lacked on all fronts... Stock cube based noodle soup in a country of fine broth, a knackered old bike with flat tyres and a lacklustre bird park that was just not memorable... Best part was the trip home. The host said there are other better tours on with locals... I would take one of them instead... Underwhelming

On our third day in Hanoi, we booked a tour with Anh to Tam Coc and Hoa Lu. Anh picked us up at our hotel in the morning and it took about 2 hours to our first stop. Anh immediately suggested to reshuffle the programme due to the warm wheater. That was a very good idea. During the car drive, Anh told us a lot about the Vietnamese culture and explained stuff that we saw at the side of the road. At Tam Coc, we picked up the bicycles and cycled around the beautiful and calm side of Tam Coc. We ended up at the bird park where we had a boot trip for about 45 minutes. Afterwards we drove back by car to have lunch. Normally, lunch is served at a Vietnamese family. The house of the family was under construction, but the alternative restaurant was also tasteful. After lunch, Anh took us to see two tempels of ancient Kings. He knew a lot about the history and was very happy to share his knowledge with us. Anh was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend this trip to other people!Perfect trip to visit Tam Coc and Hoa Lu!

All members of our family agree that the tour with Loan was amazing! Although the weather was very hot we still enjoyed learning about the vietnamese culture and history in the temple, where able to take great pictures of Vietnams beautifull landscapes and tasted great food in the local restaurant. During all these activities Loan was extremely nice and was able to answer all out questions about Vietnam. Her English is very good so therefore we had no difficulties in understanding her. She was also very interested in our country and culture so we had nice conversations and we were able to exchange different aspects of our cultures. A special highlight for us was the bike tour because we saw the breathtaking landscape and loan was always patient with us wanting to take pictures or taking a short break to rest a little bit. So to sum it up we had an amazing experience and will have loads of memories to share with our friends at home. Loan was always well informed, good organised, patient and of course friendly! Our excursion to Ninh Binh with Loan was magical! From the moment she picked us up, to the minute she dropped us off, it was perfect! Loan is incredibly knowledgeable and shared so many interesting facts on the local history but also her personal background. We had a fantastic lunch together with the driver (forgive me, I forgot his name!) who just as Loan, was so friendly. It really felt like we were out and about with friends! The places we visited were not at all touristy but absolutely magnificent which made the experience all the more special. Brian was an excellent tour guide. My wife, 1.5 year old daughter and I enjoyed the off-the-beaten-path tour to Tam Coc and Hoa Lu. Brian picked us up from our hotel promptly and arranged for an easy drive 1.5 hours away from Hanoi. We avoided the touristy areas and were among some of the only Westerners at the locations Brian showed. He is extremely knowledgeable of Vietnamese history and made the day quite enjoyable. The lunch he arranged at a local homestay was amazing, one of our best eating experiences in Vietnam. Local family and huge spread of fresh, traditional dishes in a quaint setting among the limestone cliffs near Tam Coc. Brian is filled with information about the area, things to see/do in Hanoi, places to eat and drink. If you’re interested in experiencing the Hanoi area there are tours available all over. However, if you’re looking for something more customizable and intimate, I highly recommend Brian and his company, A Taste of Hanoi. His company does a plethora of tours, Walking Food Tour, Craft Beer Tour, Halong Bay, Tam Coc, and soon to be the only war tour by motorbike. The day trip with Loan was great and well designed with different activities. I keep beautiful memories of the visit of Hoa Lu, the bike ride, the stunning cave, the boat ride in the wonderful bird sanctuary. Apart from the Hoa Lu site, the rest was pretty much off the beaten paths and non-touristy, as promised on the trip description. We could appreciate the extraordinary landscape in all quietness. This is what we wanted. The only negative aspect was the driver. He was a very nice person, but he drives extremely fast and very dangerously by our western standards. We got off the car very scared and recommend that Loan finds another driver. We traveled for 3 weeks through Vietnam, took other day trips and were driven by many different drivers from north to south. Loan’s driver was the only one with this dangerous style of driving. If anything had happened, consequences would have been dramatic.Great day trip!

What a great itinerary to get out and see areas away from the mobs of tourist buses. Loan was an excellent host, explaining the local ways and answering all of our questions. The day was full, but not rushed, we had time to stroll, ride the bike gently, take pictures, and float watching the flocks of birds in the sanctuary. Did not realise we had to travel so far! Spent 5hrs total in a car. Previous mode of transport with ‘With Locals’ has been a large & comfortable 4x4, it seemed we were driven by a friend in his personal car - ok but not the level we’d previously experienced. Lunch with a local family & viewing local living did not happen. We were given a bowl of chicken soup in a restaurant in Tam Coc! On a previous ‘With Locals’ tour, we were given such a delightful spread of food. A light lunch was not what your ad says! We paid a lot for this tour & didn’t think we got our money’s worth. Despite having only one day to spend in Ninh Binh, she does not attempt to pack everything in, but rather recommended a more leisurely schedule so that we can take in the sights and sounds in a more relaxed pace. Ich kann diesen deutschsprachigen Ausflug mit Hung ohne Einschränkung bestens empfehlen. Hung spricht sehr gut deutsch, da er bis in seine Jugend in Deutschland aufgewachsen ist und einen deutschsprachigen Vater hat. Er lebt seit ca. 20 Jahren wieder in Vietnam, sodass seine Kenntnisse über diese Region Hoa Lu und die trockene Halong Bucht hervorragend sind. Er konnte uns sehr viel über die Kultur, Sitten und Gebräuche, die Menschen und die Tempelanlagen erzählen. Seine Art, diesen Auflug zu gestalten, empfanden wir als überaus angenehm.
