Our tour guide, in Athens was fantastic! John was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, with a deep understanding of Greek culture, mythology, history and more. We learned so much, and insights went beyond the typical tourist experience. Words wont do her justice so I am going to refer so many to this gem of a person. She is a walking encyclopedia. My husband, 2 boys and I were late in getting to her as we had just landed and werent familiar - se kept communication open and guided us to her. Then followed fast pace walking to areas of Athens like Anafiotika that we couldnt reach on our own.Her story telling was stellar and the kids didnt complain about all the walking as she kept them enagaged. After our city tour with her we were set for the next days to explore Athens very well. She has so much knowledge that I cant wait to return and use her services again. Eleni was friendly enough but she seemed tired and unengaged. For this price one would expect much more. We walked around Athens and saw some local history topics which was in principle ok but one would expect more interesting stories. Yorgos was very friendly and humorous giving us an insight of where to visit along with a quick history of old Athens. My sons and I are interested in History so were keen to know about the various stages of Athens history from Ancient Greek,Ancient Rome,Byzantine,Ottoman Turks to the Royal Period. He also pointed out restaurants to visit and explained the politics to do with a Kurd demonstration that took place whilst we were on the tour as well as the rules re: National service which we found fascinating. Good introduction ready for our brief weekend visit.Only minor point was that we encountered some sellers of trinkets who were using hard sell techniques which we could have been warned about/led past quickly rather than left to our own devices. Finally enjoyed our banter about football re: Spurs and Olympiakos.Welcome Arrival

My husband, our 10 year old son and me stayed only 1 day in Athens but wanted to see whatever we could manage. We requested a guided walk with Urania but we specified to her what we need, what our son can handle etc. She made a perfect customized plan and we had an amazing afternoon with her where she took us to many places and explained everything to us. Firstly I should say that the weather was horrendous, heavy rain and wind which is not ideal for a walking tour! We really enjoyed the tour and learnt a lot about Athens having not been before. Dionysis was a little late meeting us (5 mins) but made up for it with his great attitude despite the weather conditions. Unfortunately out of his control but it was difficult to hear him and we could only speak when we stopped. I really think he made the best of it and when we did chat he knew a lot about Athens. After our tour Dionysis very kindly sent us recommendations for bars / restaurants and site seeing which was great and we were able to visit these when the weather improved!Informative and enjoyable walking tour of the main highlights of Athens

Yorgos was a great Athens tour guide. His communication before, during & after the tour was excellent & he was on time at our meeting spot. During our 90 minute walking tour we got to see so many neighborhoods around Athens that we would have not discovered on our own. Yorgos was very knowledgeable about Athens history pointing out interesting city architecture along the way. He also has a really warm personality & good sense of humor which made our tour truly memorable. After the tour we ate dinner at one of the local places Yorgos recommended. We knew we would miss a lot if we chose to walk around Plaka on our own so decided on a 90 minute tour with Yorgos. It was the perfect afternoon and I can’t believe how many places we were able to see in that short time. I took over 100 photos as we walked the streets and saw churches, markets, beautiful buildings and views. Yorgos was so much fun and shared lots of fun facts. Yorgos took our family in a rented van to visit The Temple of Poseidon - 1.5 hours from Athens-it is a gorgeous drive and I highly recommend going here. The ruin is impressive because of the spectacular view! Driving the eight of us, yorgos ensured we were comfortable and safe-he is very cautious and mature. After the Temple we stopped at a local beach for 4 hours! It was a great spot for families! Yorgos is a lot of fun to hang out with-easy going and everything you could hope for in a tour guide. He speaks perfect English too. I highly recommend this tour!Road Trip!

We had never used With Locals before and were unsure of what to expect. Well am I ever glad we took a chance instead of booking through a more traditional tour company. We were two families(8 people) travelling with 4 kids aged 9-14. Yorgos spent 6 hours walking us all over Athens! He was very easy going and fun to be around. He shared lots of local information about where to eat and drink, and actually was even helpful with us in the hotel booking stage as he suggested we avoid certain areas and stay more in the downtown area as it is great for walking around. He was also very budget conscious-we saw all the main sites but we really only paid an entrance fee to The Acropolis, as a lot of the other ruins you can see easily enough from the street. I feel like we did learn a lot from Yorgos in terms of the history of Greece as well as about the many Gods and Godesses. He hit the highlights but was not boring at all-since we were a larger group with kids, it was good this way-many things came up in conversation so it was a more comfortable way of learning about Athens instead of a more traditional scripted lecture type of tour. He is a fun guy and we all felt very comfortable around him immediately. I feel very lucky that he was our guide. Well worth the cost-Time and money well spent! Definitely choose to hire Yorgos as a tour guide if you are visiting Athens! Downtown Athens

Marialena was a great guide. I booked the tour for my mother and her friends. To ensure we didn't get lost trying to find the meeting location, Marialena was able to meet us in front of our hotel. That was super helpful as we didn't active cell phones; we didn't have a way to communicate with her outside of the hotel. She was very friendly, informative, and she even spoke to us in our native language (Spanish). This was a fantastic way to start our trip, it was also the first time I used “with locals” and I will be utilizing the app and website moving forward for all of my trips. We were shown hidden gems and got help with what to do and what to avoid, what the best time is to visit sites and where to eat. We were shown a different side to Athens aside from the archeological sites which was awesome. She was very accommodating and allowed us to customize our tour to our wants of basically doing it all in a short period of time. She reviewed the transit systems with us which helped make it easier getting around. And took us to amazing roof top restaurants and bars that were off the beaten path and much more affordable than the typical tourist spots. Definitely a must do when you first arrive. I would highly recommend Urania for this tour, she was full of energy, very patient with our questions and the obvious stopping for photos. The absolute best start for your first time in Athens
