She showed us around the main downtown sites of Merida and the very large public market which helped to get us oriented. We speak and understand some Spanish, so the tour worked out well for us. Claudia is a fine guide for tourists who understand some Spanish, Claudia is very sweet.

In 2 hours she showed us the Most important spots in Mérida and she told us lots of interesting and amazing stories about the history and the culture of Yucatan. Simona is a terrific tour guide - very friendly and highly informative. I took her walking tour of Merida on my first day in town, and it was an excellent introduction to the city. Also, Simona is highly knowledgeable about the entire Yucatán Peninsula, and she provided me with lots of very helpful insights for traveling throughout the region. Simona was incredible! She took us into the local Merida market. This market is a maze of incredible local seafood, meats, produce, and local goods. I would have gotten lost in this maze of shops, but Simona took us around to eat all the authentic local cuisine. She took us to see some sights and we ended at a local cantina. Sadly this tour didn’t meet our expectations based on the detail of the booking. Claudia was sweet and accommodating to a last minute request to add an additional person to our booking. The tour was very rushed and we finished in just over an hour, compared to the 3 hours it was marketed as. We didn’t explore any of the sites in Merida of cultural significance, rather we stayed in a small area and moved quickly between places. Sadly Claudia’s English was not good enough to properly allow us to learn about Merida and all the food we were trying (we learnt some things but had questions she couldn’t answer). The food we tried was good and definitely from places we couldn’t have gone to without a local showing us but as the food was very cheap compared to the price of the tour we didn’t feel like we’d got value for money. Unfortunately didn’t meet expectations

Claudia is a wonderful, knowledgeable, and so kind. I wish I would’ve started my trip with Claudia first. We started at the Merida City Museum, which is perfect to get the basic history of Merida; the AC was nice too. Went to an authentic market, where the people are living their daily lives. I really enjoyed people watching in the market. Did a tour of the House of Montejo. Ended the tour with a Mamey (local fruit) sorbet and great conversation about her family. This was my first time using WithLocals and because of Claudia, I will likely use it in other countries. This was the best part of my trip. Merida is a beautiful city, with unbelievably kind people. The tour with Simona was greatly enjoyable, she’s personable and knowledgeable about the city and the food. She accommodated my requests and I had several items to taste, definitely more than the 10 advertised. It was a great start to my trip, I felt safe tasting all the different delicacies at the municipal market and had a good overview of the city, of Mexican history and daily life. Highly recommended!

Simona was excellent as a guide. Personable and answered questions for us about the city and food. The tour itself is a rip off. 3 beers to share between 4 people. 3 tacos to share between 4 people. 2 marquesitas to share between 4 people. It was strange not to get a small single serving each as the “tasters”. Didn’t leave satisfied with the quantity of food or our experience. Simona was late and also left the tour early. Not worth it

Claudia was fabulous. Communication before hand was timely and she was right on time to our meet up. She took the time to ask what I wanted from our tour, there really is so much to see in Merida. She crafted the perfect morning, taking into account what I asked and adding perfect details along the way. Remembering that English is her second language allowed me to be even more impressed with her conversation and information. If you are looking for a great walking tour that really is about what you want, I would recommend Claudia every time. A++A great time!

Our food tour of Merida advertised 10 tastes and vegetarian options. That was not the case. I notified our guide ahead of time that we would have 3 vegetarians in the group, he responded “no problem with that”. The vegetarians got 3 tastes of food (I won’t count the plain tortilla with shredded lettuce and tomato on top). The non vegetarians had 7 tastes. We took it upon ourselves to order beverages at the last food stop, those could count as one more taste, but it was on our own initiative. Unlike a multitude of other great WithLocals tours I have taken, this guide didn’t address the group, didn’t talk to us about the food aside from what each dish was called, he had few historical or modern insights about Mérida, no talks about what we were seeing. He would quietly tell only me some tidbit of information, our destination. It’s hard to describe this as a tour, we were just lead from a museum to the market to another museum with the 3 food stops along the way. I really blame the WithLocals organization for not vetting or training their guides. What a disappointment. A Big Disappointment

We recently joined a tour led by a guide who seemed quite inexperienced. It was only his second tour, and unfortunately, it showed. The guide lacked the basic skills necessary to lead a tour effectively. Additionally, there was a glaring absence of architectural and historical knowledge, which significantly detracted from the experience. While it was evident that the guide tried its best, it’s clear that the agency needs to provide better training and establish certain standards for their newcomers. Without proper guidance and knowledge, the quality of the tours will inevitably suffer. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, and I hope that the agency takes steps to improve the training of their guides for future tours.Disappointing Experience

We booked Alejandro as a guide and received a confirmation and a meeting point. However, nobody showed up so I contacted Alejandro who told me he had a broken leg and that his name was not removed from the website. So, we ended up having nobody showing because the organization did not warn us and did not sent a replacement. They confirmed our booking, took our payments and nobody showed up at the meeting point. I contacted the organization to reschedule or get a refund and they never contacted me back. So I am out of $150 and not happy. So everybody should be aware that the organization is poorly run and risky and maybe use a different organizations for tourBad organization -- beware
