Great fall afternoon with Carmen on a walking tour of Madrid! Really interesting tour of the palace (outside) and palace cathedral then around the old town. Carmen was knowledgeable, helpful, pleasant and fun. Having a drink in Cerveceria Alamana where Hemingway used to hang out with bullfighters was a real highlight.Wonderful Madrid Walking Tour

Our tour was curtailed due to our crutches and wheel chair, so Carmen had to adapt our tour to avoid stairs and rough ground. She pulled together all her resources to give the best of Segovia by car with stops where we could negotiate the terrain. We had an excellent lunch with local specialties. I cannot speak highly enough of my experience with Carmen. I have visited Madrid several times and thought I knew the city reasonably well but Carmen’s knowledge and love for her city opened my eyes to so much more. Carmen is charming, friendly, very knowledgeable and certainly knows Madrid. It was a delight walking and talking with her. She talked about the current happenings of Madrid, the history of the country/people all with a warmth for her city and country. We enjoyed a fun, informative and lovely day with Carmen in Madrid. With only one day, we wanted to get a taste of the city from someone who actually lives there. What a great guide, day and experience!! Carmen is a 5th generation Madrileno and knows the city. She met us at our hotel as planned and we spent the day on a walking tour of Madrid. There were a few things in particular we wanted to see and she easily accommodated our request. She has long-standing personal relationships with many of the people (waiters, matre d, managers, etc.) at the places we visited - this saves time and adds a special dimension to her tour. You will learn a lot about not only the history of Madrid (including the backgrounds of the various Royal families of Spain), but also how the city developed and why it developed the way it did. We stopped a few times for Tapas and a drink and had a wonderful lunch at Cerveccia Alemana (a favorite of Hemingway and the food is very good, also). She has a love of Spanish literature and you will learn more about Cervantes, Man of La Mancha and Don Quixote that in your high school literature classes. Carmen was terrific she not only knew the history behind Madrid but also took us to other “out of the way” places during our tour. The best part was her personal touch. We stopped at several restaurants and bars along the way where we were warmly greeted by the owners who new Carmen and treated us to special tapas, drinks and a look beyond. By the end of our tour it felt like we had made a life-long friend and can’t wait to come back for another tour with Carmen. If you’re looking for that personal touch Carmen is the right choice.

Even if you think you know Madrid well, you will see places and learn facts about the city and it's development that are new. Carmen has an encyclopedic knowledge of her city. Carmen gave us a 3 hour walking tour of central Madrid. We learned about the history of the beautiful city as we passed the Royal Palace, the oldest building in Madrid and the first restaurant in the world. After our first scheduled tour was cancelled by another guide (due to illness), we rescheduled on the app for the following day with Carmen. After a late start (miscommunication), Carmen took us throughout Central Madrid discussing both history and traditions while we visited many sites. She is very enthusiastic and likes to have a little fun, too. We stopped at a historical bar/restaurant for a drink and she helped us schedule our Flamenco experience. Carmen was knowledgeable and was very friendly and must for anyone that wants to get the most out of a day trip to Segovia. She knew exactly where to go and we even had special requests that she was able to accommodate. We had booked this tour. The first day in Madrid we had a purse stolen at breakfast in Hotel. Had to cancel because of police report. Unser Besuch in Segovia mit Carmen war einer unserer schönsten und entspanntesten Städtetrips in Spanien. Der römische Aquädukt ist beeindruckend. Es gibt viele romanische Kirchen in der Stadt. Die meisten Häuser sind mit ihrer alten Wanddekoration sehr gut restauriert worden. Die Kathedrale und die Burg sind besuchenswert. Hinter dem Ticketoffice der Burg gibt es ein Restaurant mit Garten, von hier aus hat man einen schönen Blick auf die Altstadt. Der Höhepunkt in Segovia ist das Spanferkelessen, Genuß pur. Walking tour with Carmen Carmen gave such an excellent tour. One of the best walking tours I've been on (and I've been on plenty in many cities). Her knowledge of the history of Madrid and Spain was very detailed and explained in such an interesting and thorough way. Carmen's knowledge of Madrid, her home of five generations, was exceptional. The tour was for 3 hours but we were together for over five hours. This included the planned itinerary plus much more including some rest time in a couple of very traditional bars which was lovely. All information was provided with so much detail and passion; and so interesting to listen to. At the end of the tour Carmen gave me a lift in her taxi which was so much appreciated. Following the tour Carmen emailed a list of all the sites we visited. I so very much enjoyed Carmen's company and got so much out of the tour.
