Alvaro did not seem passionate about the local food culture. He also felt the need to use his phone a lot. We enjoyed the tour and his company but if you are a food tour guide you need to be a little more engaged with your customers. Thanks Alvaro .Get rid of the phone.

Our experience was akin to having a friend introducing us to his favorite tapas bars in Spain. We were able to experience three hidden gems near el barrio de las letras, and it was all we had hoped it to be. Our 6:00pm start time was perfect for remaining at our final stop to have dinner, although the tapas were very filling. The experience lasted just over 90 min. It was a fun little adventure - I wish it could have lasted longer.Alvaro was wonderful!

Alvaro is a good guy. But not a good guide. Generally we visited 3 bars. Two of them were very full and small. It was impossible just to stand there. I didn't like that he didn't tell us something. We were forced to ask him questions in order not to be silent. So the main question after our tapas tour was why did we need him. Not good

Our host requested that we meet at 6:30 instead of 7pm. No problem. He arrived at 6:45. He had already done 2 tours that day and had later plans after our evening. Unlike the description of the payment arrangements where we had made a payment to WithLocals and were to pay him the balance in cash, he told us what his fee was (40 Euros) and that we would be paying for the tastings along the way. It would work out the same, he said. It did not. He seemed bored and anxious to get on with his evening. His phone never left his hand and he was constantly texting. The places he took us to, rather than being chosen because they had the best example of a given type of tapa, were instead, just random places that he asked us what we wanted to order. We paid for our own as well as his. Because I am interested in Spanish cheeses I had made the request ahead of time to focus on Spanish cheeses. The first stop was a cheese/charcuterie bar owned by his friend. He prepared a beautiful cheese/meat plate for us...of Italian cheeses. At the end of the evening I did not have correct change to pay his 40 euro fee and handed him a 50 euro note. He said thank you and kept the change, assuming the additional 10 was his tip. This was our second WithLocals experience. The first one was great, in Lisbon. So I hesitate to not recommend the experience, but if the first was a 10 and this was a 1, it averages to 5.5.Like a bad blind date

This was our first time in Madrid. My friend and I had a few days to kill and decided to explore a new city. I found withlocals online as I was booking my trip and decided to book a food tour as eating in new cities is one of my favorite things to do. Alvaro communicated right away after I booked the tour to introduce himself and confirm time and location (and language). We met and he took us to great places to try the local tapas and wines. Aside from everything tasting good and being reasonably (if not cheaply) priced, I noticed that we were the only "tourists" in each place that we went to. I think that was the best part! We got to get a real feel of the place. Alvaro had great historical knowledge of the area and happily shared his knowledge with us. I was only sorry that the tour was limited to 3 hours and we had to say good-bye! I'd do something like this in any new city. Great experience! Local Love

Alviro is super friendly and looked after us really well. He took us to several different tapas bars including places we would never have considered visiting - away from the normal tourist areas. He also helped us with choosing different foods to eat, and drinks to with them. We really enjoyed our evening and would not hesitate in recommending him to anyone else. Great Evening Out

8 girls from Holland decided to take the tour because we thought that is was nice that we saw some great locations on our first night in Madrid. And it was!! It was great!! Alvaro took us to 4 different places and we had the best time. We loved the food and the wine and we loved Alvaro very much. He even gave us a great recommendation for a flamenco show and he booked it for us. We enjoyed that show also very much! Alavaro was very helpful and concerned, a great guide!! This is a perfect way to experience a great area of Madrid away from the main tourist areas (but not too far) and get a real feel for the local tapas culture with a young vibe. Alvaro was the perfect host (having frequented this area himself as a young adult) - he was fun and friendly and very knowledgable about Madrid and tapas cuisine. We went to four places within short walking distance; all different but all cool with the most amazing tapas and superb wines. If you're coming to Madrid (which is now my favourite city) then don't miss out on this tour - and definitely choose Alvaro:)Perfect
