Had an excellent tour with Jorge - despite very heavy rain! We started in the Mercado do Bolhão with a glass of vinho verde and a cheese platter followed by some beef carpaccio and tartare. Jorge was very friendly and informative about Portuguese food and life, showing us sights we would otherwise not have seen, such as the railway station and making suggestions for other visits. We went to a local restaurant for a sandwich made with slow cooked pork that melted in the mouth and finally another local restaurant for a pastel de Nata. Delicious! We signed up for a 2 hour food tour with Jorge. We met at the Mercado do Bolhao for some starter snacks, and then walked to 2 other small, untouristy places for a simple meal and dessert. All the food choices were good and a comfortable conversation flowed throughout the tour. We liked the small, family-owned eating place the best. It had a good history and super food. We had the BEST time with Vera! We booked the food tour the afternoon of the day we landed to help with jet lag and Vera was a ray of sunshine! She’s kind, knowledgeable and just a joy to be around. Great day! We lucky to have Tiago as our guide. He contacted us and spoke with us prior to meeting and ensured we were getting the most from our experience. He added a visit to the westernmost part of Europe - Cabo da Roca and showed us Cascais. And still had us back in Lisbon by 3p He was an excellent guide with his knowledge. Theresa met me at my hotel & we set off to see the sights & buildings I had expressed an interest in. Theresa was good company and knowledgeable. During her guided walk she gave a concise account of the history - I complemented her on her ability to make her talk relevant & to the point. She knew that I had wanted to use her tour as a familiarising myself with Porto walk. She achieved her aim as today I set off myself to explore & as a result of her guided walk yesterday I found my way around At the end of our walk along the river She kindly walked me to The Funicular so that I could make my way back to my hotel without having to walk uphill. Joana was kind and accommodating, but felt inexperienced and unprepared as a tour guide. She didn't secure tickets to the bookstore -- a highlight of the tour we chose -- which she explained upfront was due to them being sold out and apologized. But sufficient forward planning would have made it relatively easy to have purchased them. This mishap seemed to throw her a bit, and the tour felt disorganized and unclear as to what the plan was. She did try to recover, gave us some thoughtful anecdotes and engaged effectively with our young kids for portions, but although it was overall nice to meet her and hear her story we couldn't reccomend her fully as a tour guide based on our experience.
