Ai set up a culinary and cultural experience that was well beyond what I expected. We tried a wide variety of food at three different restaurants in an area of Tokyo that would be difficult for a tourist to figure out in their own. She was an excellent teacher and your guide, explaining both the food, the restaurant, the culture behind the izakaya experience, and nearly any other question I had about Tokyo. Sena was fantastic. She was very responsive before our excursion and very thoughtful during. She preplanned the places to eat/drink and had alternatives based on our conversation once we met up so we got to eat foods we might otherwise have been intimidated to try like takoyaki and okonomiyaki. Sena was amazing! She responded to confirm booking and also suggested and alternative tour which we ended up switching to out of convenience! Our night consisted of a popular sushi spot which she booked ahead of time so we got right in. She made food/drink suggestions about what to try and what’s popular in Shibuya. Onto the next thing we had the best takoyaki there is! To top it off, we ended up with a sake tasting. Sena has lots of knowledge of Tokyo (as well as the surrounding neighborhoods) and I felt like we were getting all the hidden gems. She also made sure to check in with dietary preferences ahead of time and fully customize the tour. Not only did she make other suggestions for the rest of the trip but was went out of her way to help find a books at a local bookstore we had been searching for! She’s a great guide! 10/10 recommend. Best guide out there!

We had a very nice experience with Sena in Shibuya. We tasted some great sushi and enjoyed her choice of restaurant, followed by gyozas in another eatery and then a sake-tasting. Sena was a very polite and friendly host and we enjoyed hearing about her life. We did find the food tasting a little but dull - we would have preferred to try more adventurous food in less commercial locations. The Kichijoji nightlife tour with Jessica felt just like grabbing dinner with a great friend! She had some hilarious stories that kept us laughing the entire time. She recommended some interesting dishes, but everything was so delicious. I don't think we would have ever thought to try horse meat without her recommendation. Alex was truly the best. We ran a little late for the tour dude to getting into the city later than expected (which should be no shock to anyone in Tokyo) but he came and got us anyways. He was a genuinely good dude who showed us some awesome spots. I cannot recommend this experience any higher. Frankly, it was one of the highlights of my groups trip during TokyoThe best!

We were Tokyo just a few days and decided to check out the bar hopping tour. Initially, I was a bit concerned because my husband and I are lightweights and cannot drink a whole lot. Alejandro put my worries to rest and so we went. Alejandro is a friendly, considerate, and down-to-earth guy. He took us to a few different Izakayas in a quaint Tokyo neighborhood, we tried different drinks, bar foods, played drinking games, and did a bit of karaoke. It was a fun night out, I highly recommend this tour.Highly recommend!

Alejandro is amazing. He got us a table at all the izakayas that know him and showed us things we would never be able to see as a group of 8 who don't speak Japanese! This is a must having a local show you around as foreigners are not really able to do this. We drank a lot and even ate a lot! Beware do take all the hangover prevention he sends you before the experience! We didn't and I definitely suffered the next day. Alejandro really takes care of your group and knows the drinks in and out too and the specialties at each bar. Don't worry if you have a specific taste either! I thought I wouldn't get to appreciate a lot since I like sweet drinks but that wasn't a problem at all!Amazing!

As a solo traveler it can be intimidating to try izakayas or all all you can drink places by yourself. I tried the drinks I would never try otherwise and also met interesting people. I also loved I could experience other places than Shinjuku or Shibuya. Definitely recommend!Recommend!

We had a really good experience on our tour of Shibuya, Meiji, Shinjuku and many stops in between, with Abu, our guide for a bespoke tour with food stop at an excellent sushi restaurant in a building I have no idea how to fine again! And that’s kind of the point of doing a Withlocals tour - you can easily go to Shibuya or Shinjuku by yourself but as tourists in a strange land it really helps to have someone like Abu to guide your steps, even if you have first guided his as to where you would like to go, as we did because we have been to Tokyo before, so did not want to be taken to all of the more obvious places. It was a very hot day, so Abu was careful to include stops and frequent visits to air conditioned buildings and to make the occasional detour via a pachinko arcade or a food court to get some cool air and cut off a corner! The sushi was great, and the Sake tasting was too - even though it confirmed my already formed opinion that I just don’t like sake. Sorry Japan, sorry Abu. The walk to Meiji shrine was fun and Abu regaled us with history lessons galore. He also took some great pictures, with his own phone which he sent us and with ours too. Abu is a much better photographer than I am, so we were glad to get these. The other advantage of taking such a tour was all the side tips - a whiskey museum, an entrance to our hotel from a metro line, a metro line to Nakano Broadway that was hard to see on a map, and plenty more little snippets that made our next two days a little easier. Thanks to Abu again for his guidance on a great tour of Tokyo.Great day touring Tokyo with Abu

Abu is such a great guide. He is very knowledgeable and very kind. Abu really showed all sides of Asakusa and some other places, beginning with the market of the old city with some information about the city name and the market temples. After we got some popular and delicious local snacks which were totally not busy at the time. At the end Abu showed us the giant gaming and anime neighborhood of 10 story high game stores which was completely surreal. Abu was not in a hurry to finish the tour, on the contrary, he just wanted to show us all the places that we were interested in and took all the time to take us to there. We will definitely book Abu again if we come back!

Abu was a great guide, made our first full day in Tokyo a much better experience by explaining the history of the sights we were seeing and overall development of the area. He walked us through food and entertainment areas, sharing tips, where to go, and what to avoid, always adding some helpful bit of information or a story as we went along. He showed us shopping areas and stayed with us as we bought some items and where to buy an umbrella we needed for the rain. Wow! Where do I even begin? Our family of four had an absolutely off-the-charts food tour with MD — this guy is a Tokyo street food sensei! Before we even set foot near the stalls, he made sure to check our dietary quirks and cravings so he could plan the ultimate feast. And let me tell you, he delivered! Without him, we would’ve wandered in circles and missed every delicious hidden gem tucked away in those side alleys.
