We had a wonderful afternoon with Laura touring the Alcazar and Cathedral. It was easy to see why these places are her favorite in Seville. She shared so much of her knowledge with us including the history of the royal families of Spain throughout the centuries. Laura was timely, accommodating, willing to go off script in response to questions that maybe come from left field, she has unflagging energy (even in uncommonly humid Seville weather!), excellent English, and to top it off the Alcazar is like her "second home" which she has revered since childhood and found solitude and solace in, in the days when it was not so filled with tourists. Today she studies the history of the neighbourhoods and people (especially women!) surrounding the Alcazar and cathedral -- the many interconnections between people, religions, histories, spaces and stories. We were so delighted to find a true expert and friendly local guide in Laura! She is also an accomplished teacher and used to entertaining kids - although that was not necessary with us, we are all kids at heart. My family of 4, including twin 8 year old girls, had a private tour of the Alcazar with Alba. She did a great job of keeping my kids interested with a fun treasure hunt. We were all a bit jet lagged, and we appreciated the relaxing pace of our tour. My husband and I enjoyed learning about the Alcazar, and Alba is a wealth of information. We learned and saw so much more than we would have had we visited on our own. We spent time in the beautiful gardens, and Alba guided our girls around to hunt for the peacocks and their feathers. We also found the peacock babies, and my kids were delighted. Then we had some time to rest at the café which was a nice break. Alvaro was very friendly and knowledgeable. He met us on time, and made sure we had a great time providing interesting information about the history of the palace, and the city of Sevilla. He kept my 10 y.o. son interested and eager for more! When a break was necessary, we found a lot of subjects to discuss, ranging from soccer to rock music. Before we contacted Alba we had a scheduled tour planned that last minute was cancelled and that left us with nothing. Eventhough there is no entrance ticket included in the tour, she helped us navigate to get tickets in line at the alcazar ticket office. She was in constant communication with us and helped us every step of the way. When we finally got the tickets we booked this tour and she told us all the facts you want to know about history of the royal home. Cecilia made our tour of the Alcazar enjoyable and special for everyone. She was especially wonderful about connecting with our 4 and 9 year old children. This is our first time using with locals and I think we’ll do it again as it’s a way to connect with local guides who not only are trained and educated to provide you with the history of the place, but they are also from the place and can provide recommendations that only a local would know. Cecilia recommended a place for lunch and a flamenco show that were truly authentic and wonderful experiences. He covered a lot of ground with an emphasis on Sevilla's charming tapas/cafe culture and tasty food and drinks. Whether he was sharing the history of Las Setas or his family's somewhat complicated love of bull-fighting, Juan Fernando was entertaining and helped us get a fuller picture of Sevilla. Alba gave us a fantastic tour of the Alcázar and surroundings for a group of friends, and everyone did greatly enjoy it! We were able not only to visit in an ordered way the monuments but also to understand the different historical events that impacted the city during different eras. Laura met us at our Hotel which made the start of our tour very easy as we didn’t have to locate a meeting point. From there Laura took us on a 3 hour walking tour through the city showing us historical sites and various other interesting places on the route. She took us through some quieter parts of the city which visitors don’t always see. If you like history then Laura is definitely a guide we would recommend.
