Weil das Museum am gebuchten Abend bereits geschlossen war, hat uns David kurzerhand angeboten, die Führung durch das Museum am nächsten Morgen nachzuholen. António was very pleasant even though we were late getting to our prearranged meeting. He was hired to take us around the Gulbukien museum. He was knowledgeable about Mr Gulbeckian’s life but told us nothing about what we were to see in the exhibits. He walked around with us but seemed to know nothing about the art. I felt we paid a lot for no information. The collection was wonderful and l was fascinated by the art nouveau jewellery which I didn’t know was there. It would have been interesting to hear about the designers.

Our tour was supposed to be a museum tour but it turned out that the museum was closed. Diolo, being the skilled tour guide and beatboxer that he is, thought quickly, improved and offered us options on what we could do as an alternative. He took us on a tour around Lisbon that gave us some of the old and new sights that showed us what makes Lisbon the vibrant city that it is. Occasionally displaying his hype beatboxing skills, Diolo’s love for Lisbon and exuberant energy made our detour one of a kind! We highly recommend Sonia who gave us an excellent tour of Lisbon’s historical centre, including a couple of places and short cuts we would never have known about or found if we hadn’t been with Sonia. She is such a lovely person, very friendly and gave us such a lot of information about Lisbon in general during the tour. It’s well worth the money and a much nicer way to take a tour rather than walking around in a large group. We’d definitely take another tour with Sonia if we come back to Lisbon. My wife and I had the pleasure of taking a Lisbon Food Tour with Ana Paula and had a great time and great conversation. She was able to customize our visits to exclude a few things we already tried and also give us a taste of better versions of some things we had tried earlier in the week as well. We had some wonderful hams and cheeses, pastries, amazing octopus salad, even more bachalau and, my favorite, the bifana. This was the first time visiting Lisbon and Francisco’s tour was an excellent introduction to the city. Francisco was a terrific guide with a real passion for its history and culture, taking us to places of importance and where we wouldn’t have thought to go without his guidance. He was very friendly, amiable and spoke excellent English. The tour was for 3 hours but he actually gave us more of his time. He gave us recommendations for the rest of our week and places to eat - well worth it. Afterwards he also messaged us about the coming storm and palace closures.
