We had the most wonderful time learning to cook Portuguese family recipes with Vera. This is a special experience not to be missed if possible. Vera’s warmth and kindness make this experience so incredible. Her recipes are also delicious and some of the best food we ate on our visit to Porto. We had so much fun cooking, chatting, drinking wine and snacking. Our two kids loved the chance to cook and learn and it was a wonderful way to spend the day. I can’t recommend enough booking this experience or any tour with Vera. We will remember our day cooking with her forever!Wonderful experience

First, I should start by saying how lovely Vera is. A genuinely nice person. However, we were a bit confused by the whole experience. It’s described as a cooking experience for the whole family (the picture even shows kids in chefs hats). We met Vera and were driven to her parents flat where she pulled some food out the freezer and cooked it whilst we stood and watched. The kids sat in the lounge and ended up watching tv. In short we ended up paying over €100 for a very mediocre meal. We felt as if we had lost a day from our holiday. As I said before Vera and her family were nice but the description is very misleading.Not what we were expecting

It was clear from the outset Vera is a true local who knows the establishments she takes you to well, oftentimes jumping in to lead the tastings herself which was a lot of fun. I can’t recommend Vera’s food tour enough! We had all ages - from 7 years old to 70 - and she managed to keep everyone entertained! We ate so many delicious and interesting foods and enjoyed listening to the stories behind the dishes and culture. Vera went above and beyond by making sure everyone was engaged by just being so friendly, fun and welcoming - we all felt like we were getting a tour from an old friend. My husband, I, and two of our friends had a 10 tastings of Porto with Vera. This was the first time any of us went on a food tour. This was also by far my favorite guided experience. If I had to describe Vera in one word, it would be PERSONALITY. She was funny, and knowledgeable, and engaging. She had a perfect English, which sometimes could be a challenge in Portugal. I’m usually pretty picky with food, but I loved everything we tasted. We also got many tips on dining in Portugal. We went back for lunch at one of the places Vera took us and met her there with another group. She made sure to stop by to chat with us and answer whatever new questions we had. Vera was wonderful! She is friendly, knowledgeable, and made the food tour fun! She took us to a variety of places and they were all expecting us, so everything went smoothly. We started at the open market and then went to many family or individually owned shops providing us with their unique take on well known items. For example, meia-duzia was so unique and we were able to buy many tubes to take home. Vera was also able to accommodate the people in our group with dietary restrictions…gluten free, no peanuts etc. She was thoughtful and didn’t rush us. We had a great time. Vera is amazing

We had such a great time with the fabulous Vera - it was a perfect introduction to local food and drink. Vera has excellent contacts and every product we sampled was fantastic! We tried olives and olive oil, cheese, oysters, pastel de nata, chocolates, ham, smoked meats, sardines and some great drinks on our tour. Vera’s knowledge of food, and the small businesses that produce it, is extensive. It was a fantastic experience which we will be recommending to others. A fantastic tour with the perfect guide!

We just returned (5/11/24) from our first trip ever to Portugal. Our experience in Lisboa was AMAZING. Carlos and I are soo happy that we chose Vera as our With Locals guide to introduce us to the food, culture and Lisbon experience. It felt like we were touring the City with a long time friend or family member who was excited to introduce us to the places, the tastes, the smells and the people who they know and love. Right from the start, Vera greated us with such warmth, hospitality and excitement for her City that you simply could not help but allow yourself to be completely caputured by the spirit and vibrancy of the City. Get ready to walk, eat and drink....did i mention eat?!! Be hungry when you start the food tour because by the end of the tour you will be completely stuffed with the biggest smile on your face. Also, you will have ample opportunity to purchase more of what you have sampled and trust me, you WILL purchase items for yourself and to give as gifts when you arrive back home. The tour was truly a food extravaganza, starting at the market and moving through small and speciality shops - far more than we expected. There was sausage and chocolate and paste and sardines, cheese, oysters, ham of all kinds, and more. We drank wine and port. Vera was punctual and very easy to get on with right from our first meeting. She listened to the things we wanted to see and experience during our time in Porto, and guided us accordingly. We visited various establishments sampling food and wines with Vera who discussed and pointed things of interest along the way. On the second day Vera took us on a splendid tour of the Douro valley with wine tasting and a visit to a winery. Vera is very friendly and a great conversationalist. We loved Vera! So fun and personable, immediate rapport and felt like family. We were a picky group - some with food allergies, some aversions, and some religious restrictions - but Vera was happily able to accommodate all of us. Sampled food and drink at shops, the market and restaurants. A real variety. Lots of interesting and delicious things. We were stuffed!!! We did a walking food tour with Vera through the beautiful streets of Porto. We started at the Minerva sardine house. Vera couldn't have done more for us. She tailored the foods, drinks and places we visited to our preferences (and, believe me, we were a FUSSY group!) But nothing was too much trouble for her. We did the 10 Tastings of Porto tour with 4 adults and 2 young kids. We had a great time and Vera was wonderful - especially with our children. The food was great and we definitely made it to some places that we never would have found ourselves. Doing it with Vera made it that much better - she’s easy to talk to, friendly and relatable. We had a great tour with Vera, from the contact before to warn us about the National holiday, to advice on the day and helping us to organise for a purchase of wine - she was great and nothing was too much trouble. She obviously has a good relationship with all the producers and organised for a delivery of some goods to our hotel so we didn't have to carry them! We shared a fantastic 3 hours with Vera, who is both a really lovely person and so knowledgeable about Porto's food and drink. She took us to Bolhao market, which had just been renovated, and is full of the most fantastic stalls. She took us to various places to try cheese, olive oil and sardines. She is clearly liked and trusted by all these family businesses. We then went and tried the most amazing Pastéis de Nata and port, then on to a chocolate shop, then to a jam, honey and condiment shop and then lunch at a renowned hotdog/beer cafe. It was all amazing and it was great to chat with Vera who knew so much and gave us a real insight into not just the food scene in Porto but her life as a local. We felt we'd made a real connection with a really genuine person. Thank you - it completely made our trip to Porto perfect.The best experience we had in Porto
