What you can expect
In this private day tour, you'll escape the bustling city life to visit a peaceful seashore place in Bangkok. Ready to explore the local and traditional way of living?
Explore Bang Khun Thain District, the only district in Bangkok located at the Gulf of Thailand. The sea here borders with the mangrove forest which grows in brackish wetlands between land and sea where other plants can't grow. Mangrove forest not only protects the erosion of the banks, but it is also the best nursery for the sea life. And for the locals, it's a way to get fish, create cockle, and salt farms.
To fully understand this traditional way of life, go to the Mangrove forest conservation center where you can also do a bit of bird watching. You'll be amazed by a beautiful sight of the Gulf of Thailand and its' rich flora.
This unique private tour gives you insider access to a local salt farm. You will learn how the salt is extracted from the sea water, different kinds of sea salt and join salt harvesting during its season.
After enjoy the outdoor acitivities in salt farm, it is time for lunch. I will bring you to a local salt farmer where you can join Thai cooking with locals and try special dish "Seep weed salad", the local plant which can be grown only in the brackish water , plus seasonal local sea foods with canal view.
The more I know the local people here, the more I love mangrove forests and the harmony in which locals live together within nature. And I would love for you to fall in love with this place and its people like I am!
*Friendly tip:
Bring hat, sunscreen cream and sunglasses and flip-flops or washable shoes because the area can be muddy during rainy season. It is more fun if you don't mind walking with barefoot.
*Bonus for morning person & love walking :
Free morning walking trip to the sea of Bangkok.
The round trip distance is 8 KM. (about 2 hrs)
I will show you my walking route, another fisherman village and local morning market.
Meet up at my place at 6.15 am. I'll share the location of my place after you do booking with Withlocals. The best way to my place is taxi.
Available day : Tuesday , Thursday and Sunday. Please do at least 1 week booking before the tour starts.

Our day spent with Hansa and A was by far the highlight of our stay in Bangkok. From the moment we met them we felt comfortable and welcome. From our visit to the fish markets, to our walk amongst the mangroves, to learning about the fascinating process of farming salt, and to the delicious lunch prepared in front of us with local, fresh ingredients, every part of the day was everything we hoped and more. Hansa and A were full of interesting facts and stories and able to answer our many questions about Thailand. If you are looking for an experience that will live in your memory long after you leave Bangkok then Hansa’s tour is for you. Thank-you again for such a unique day❤️

Went on a fantastic trip with Hansa and her husband. Pick up instructions were very clear and easy, and the day was perfectly organized despite some weather interruptions. This a great tour for someone who wants to see a local's view of Bangkok's suburbs -- we went to places I never would have been able to find on my own and I was so grateful to have Hansa as a guide! She's so lovely, friendly, and knowledgable about the areas we went to. I wouldn't hesitate to take another tour with her or recommend this tour to anyone I know! Thanks Hansa!Unique escape from the bustle of Bangkok!

Hansa was a perfect guide! She was there on time and explained the programme for the day. She is a very educated and extremely cultivated woman: she has travelled a lot not only throughout Thailand, but also around the world. We really felt that she was genuinely pleased to be able to let us discover places that we simply could not visit by ourselves. Hansa was very professional, warm and communicative. We really appreciated her detailed explanations throughout the day, and she was able to answer all our questions. She was extremely open-minded and curious about our culture. We are very grateful to her for this exceptional experience.
A big thank you also to "auntie" who cooked a real feast of seafood that "uncle" had caught in his own ponds!

What a great trip with Hansa. It felt like a friend was introducing me to their favourite area just outside of Bangkok and sharing the local culture with Thai families. Such a well organised tour to the coast with three different parts to it .. exploring the mangroves, visiting a salt farm and then experiencing local seafood dishes and cooking. The families were so welcoming and Hansa was brilliant at showing us wildlife and explaining about this fascinating area. It was very personal and original. Thoroughly enjoyable.Delightful Day of Hidden Gems ..

It was such a treat going out with Hansa- right from the start it was like meeting a friend. She showed me places I’d never have discovered on my own- from the mangrove nature reserve to the fascinating salt farming and fishing lagoons. This was capped by our boat trip out amongst the mangroves for lunch cooked by auntie- delicious fresh fish and local fare. If you want to get to know the real Thailand, this is the excursion for you.The real Thailand

Une aventure hors du temps, une bienveillance extraordinaire lors de chaque rencontre, loin de la foule de Bangkok . Un sentiment de tristesse vous envahit lorsque l’heure du départ arrive. We thoroughly enjoyed our day with Hansa experiencing a different side of Bangkok. Her passion for the local community and sustainable tourism is evident through her thoughtfully designed day tour. She has developed a genuine, trusting relationship with the locals that we encountered throughout the day. A testament to this was being invited to Aunty's lovely home (which you can only access by a scenic boat ride) to have a delicious lunch, freshly prepared by her. She even showed us how she expertly collects cockles! The leisurely afternoon we spent there was certainly the highlight of our day. Hansa is an excellent communicator and a very helpful, personable host. We highly recommend her and this tour to anyone looking for a novel local experience. Great day with a fantastic host

I fly to Bangkok a few times a year both for work and leisure with friends or family; for those who assume that they have seen it all (like I did), think again! Until you’ve experienced the Fishing Village, Salt Farm and Seafood Day Trip with Hansa, you have seen nothing yet.
I refuse to go into detail. Why ruin the surprises for you!
So try something different. Experience this amazing journey where the land of smiles truly earns its name. Beautiful sights, true lovers of nature, delicious cuisine, friendly tour guides...it was an amazing trip, it has left me in awe and will surely be an experience of my lifetime.

A great day in the countryside/ coast , so close to Bangkok yet it seems a million miles away. Our second tour with Hansa and she is a delight to know speaking excellent English.
Aunty at the fish farm/salt farm cooked the most wonderful lunch , fresh fish ( from the sea ) with home made sauces that were outstanding.

Hansa’s tour was simply fantastic. Hansa’s communication prior to the tour was professional and informative and the meeting point easy to navigate. The tour itself was a truly unique experience with a visit to the mangroves, a salt farm and fish farm. We were treated like family with my teenage sons thoroughly enjoying the roller and harvesting at the salt farm followed by aN amazing array of home cooked dishes at the fish farm. Auntie and Uncle were incredibly hospitable opening their home to our family. Our day with Hansa will be a highlight of our trip to Thailand.Like spending the day withs friend

We had an absolutely great time with Hansa (Ping) and her Husband ‘A’. We especially enjoyed the delicious food that was prepared by the cheerful Auntie as well as the time spent in the water picking cockles. The Uncle (owner of the house) was also very friendly towards us and kept showing us around in the house (eg. His fighting fishes haha). We learnt so much from Ping and A from this trip and our trip was filled with so much laughter. This simple but fulfilling trip will always be in our hearts and memories! Strongly recommend this trip to city dwellers who wish to go back to the nature and enjoy some time experiencing a slower and simple life. Hope to do another tour with Ping and A when we are back to Bangkok the next time! =D Lovely trip that touches the Heart.

We have been on a tour with Hansa and her husband for a full day. We loved everything. They are so hospitable, knowledgeable and very helpful. They aswered all of our (many) questions and they were really happy to help. I would recommend you to book a day with Hansa if you want to have an experience outside the usual turistic tours. It has showed us another side of Bangkok, outside of the chaos of the city centre and we spent some great time in great company! An unique experience in Bangkok

What a wonderful birthday experience for my 16 year old son and his brother. We were picked up promptly and driven expertly outside of the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. We visited mangroves, salt farms and best of all a local house on stilts. We had an amazing meal prepared for us while the boys went kayaking on the lagoon. We had a cooking class and tasted delicious local fruits. Our guide was polite, funny, knowledgeable and had a real love of the community we visited. I would thoroughly recommend this trip.Birthday in Bangkok

Danke vielmals!Neue Freundin gefunden!

Hi Mr A and Hansa,
Thanks a lot for the hospitality during our may19 trip.
We travelled with both young’s and olds in this trip. Mr A(Hansa’s hubby) is really a nice and friendly guy. They are so attentive and caring. Umbrellas, insect repellent and mineral waters were all provided. That’s really very sweet of them.
The price is really worth the trip as we get to explore the local life of the thais and how villagers carried out their work and lifestyle.
And as promised, we managed to taste the best coconuts Water in my life. Mr A explained to us the that the coconuts were being burned on charcoal, hence with such great taste. Auntie Sim ( the villager) was Super friendly too. A great cook with all nice Thai food. So much so that we nearly could not finish. Very nice peoples.
We eat, explore and learn..
Both the elderly and young’s were kept entertained well. Hansa, if there’s any local tour you are conducting other than this salt farm tour, remember to update me :DOur happy family trip in may19

I don’t even know where to begin. The fishing village tour itself is one I wish more people would experience. It gives you such an amazing inside look on the real lives of the Thai people. It is not only fun but so informative. We went to a mangrove forest and learned about the cost of deforestation on wildlife, witnessed workers harvesting salt at a salt farm and went on a local fisherman’s boat to have lunch with a local family who’s home can only be accessed by boat. They were the absolute sweetest and cutest couple. The food was amazing and just kept coming! We were able to try things we normally wouldn’t. This tour wouldn’t have been as amazing and informative as it was if it wasn’t for Hansa (Ping). We have traveled a lot and have done many tours and I can honestly say that Hansa is my favorite. She is such a sweet and intelligent human and was constantly making sure we were okay. We felt so comfortable with her and didn’t want our time to end. My dad, who is very picky, is still talking about her. If we could have had her for our entire vacation we would have done it in a heartbeat. Please do yourself a favor and spend a day doing this tour or just spend a day with Hansa. You won’t regret it! The best of the best!

I strongly recommend this unique and exquisite tour with Hansa. A cross between an eco-tour, culinary heaven, and enjoying the company of some of the warmest, loveliest, and most generous folks I've ever met - this tour was fantastic in so many way. Do yourself a favor - get out of town and away from the traffic - and enjoy the beauty, peace, and tranquility of the Thai countryside with an utterly charming and highly knowledgeable host, Hansa. It was a delight getting to meet Hansa and all her friends at the Salt Farm, the Mangrove 'sanctuary', the coffee house, and Uncle and Auntie where we dined like royalty. Hansa's personality, passion, and love of life make her a fabulous guide. It was clear in all our interactions that the people she introduced us to loved her and that she loved them. Hansa is charsimatic, knowledgable, and fun-loving. It was easy to interact with her, and we were introduced to and learned much about little-known aspects of Thai culture from her. We were so fortunate to have met Hansa and her husband who has given us an insight to the rich culture of the village people and how they maintain their unique ways of living. To see how the salt was cultivated and harvested on farm beds of different concentration of water was interesting. You will get a sense of the amount of work needed to prepare the land before the salt can be produce. Being there, seeing it, and walking into the salt water with bare feet is how one experience salt farm!
We were then transported by long tail boat to a fisherman village where we were warmly greeted by a couple who we call Auntie and Uncle. A lovely couple with a such a kind and open heart to share their life with us. We were able to see how they live, how they were able to keep an abundant sea life of fishes and cockles that flourish in their property. They cook up an amazing homemade meal of Thai dishes for us to enjoy for lunch. I must say, we had an overwhelming 13 Thai dishes with dessert for a family of 5, all made with fresh and organic ingredients. We were able to take a dip in the water to cool down and look for cockles which was so much fun for the kids. If you want a true local Thai experience with a different side to Bangkok bustling city, this is the tour to do, and not just with anyone, Hansa is the best as she knows the local Thai culture true to the heart. A must do if you are in Bangkok!
Hansa has the full knowledge to give you any advise and recommendations if you are looking for local Thai restaurants and sight seeing. We did an extra day with Hansa for the weekend Floating market and Chinatown. We enjoy it a lot, especially the food:)Life Rich Experience with Hansa!

It was a very unique tour where I visited the mangrove forest, Gulf of Thailand and local fisherman village. Great hospitality from the fisherman family who hosted me a lunch (yummy!) with local ingredient and fresh seafood! Salt farm was meant to be the highlight but the climate this few months were not very cooperative so there was not much harvest by the time i visited. Hansa was fantastic in organizing the entire trip from pre-trip communication, private car pick-up ettc. Great English with good knowledge about local history. A pleasure to learn a lot of things about local culture and Thai history from her. This is definitely not an ordinary tour in Bangkok you will find in other sites. Having opportunity to experience place where local couple live in remote area and farm seafood is an experienced that will never be forgotten. We had a wonderful day experiencing how salt is produced in the flats and introduced to owner who was charming. Best part of my whole trip in Thailand is the experience of eating freshly caught seafood and other wonderful dishes that would not be out of place at 2 star michelin restaurant. This was a simply amazing and special day. Hansa is an warm and intelligent woman who has created a tour that's both a wonderful experience and brilliantly informative about a part of the Bangkok coast and it's communities. The journey starts at the struggling mangroves - our impact on the ecology - and moved onto the success of a salt farm. On our visit there happened to be a UN photographer so we got stuck in and posed for photographs walking in the salt. Which allegedly is fabulous for you feet - hoping it will takes years off them! The landscape and story of the success of the salt farm is a brilliant insight into the potential of the area to carry on with it's traditional economy whilst being innovative. The third and final part of the journey is suitably the finest. Taking a boat along the waterways of Bangkoks coast, Hansa takes you to Aunty and Uncle's cockle farm. Both retired the welcome is truly lovely. The smell of Aunties cooking and Uncle's tour of the home make you feel completely welcome and at home. Then lunch is served and as other have mentioned its plentiful. Hansa had to tell Aunty to stop as our table overlooking the cockle water fields was overflowing with delicious dishes. The best meal we've had in Thailand and indeed that may be in part due to the fact it was home cooked and prepared with love but it was so fresh and so very tasty. Then into the water to pick cockles with Aunty collecting the oysters and swimmer crabs whilst Uncle started singing and playing the xylophone. Once the Harvest is complete you're out of the water and Aunty starts cooking again preparing the harvest of cockles, oysters and crabs for another fabulous feast of seafood. The whole day was brilliant but the cockle farm will stay with us forever. The fact that Hansa clearly has so much respect and affection for the people you visit shines through and is contagious. When you see Hansa working along side Aunty and Uncle preparing and hosting it's really rather beautiful. Go on this trip and you will experience things very few people in the world have the opportunity or inclination to see. Unique, brilliant, full of humour and love. Thank you Hansa.Simply amazing.

What a day! Our last in Bangkok and Thai New Year!
We laughed so much as we sped between the water throwers! Those in Tuk Tuks didn’t fare as well! We loved the impromptu stop at the temple to see the sandcastles.
We learnt so much about daily life, festivals, trade etc and would highly recommend this visit.
Everything from start to finish was fascinating. Nothing was arduous; the day flew by. We loved the personalisation and no question went unanswered.
Both H and A speak amazing English so we chatted about so many things. They are courteous hosts and were a delight to share our day with.
Nothing was too much.
The water and snacks in the car were appreciated and the coffee stop was unique. Try everything! Thai tea, coffee and the toast cake!
So many highlights. Our friends have loved the gifts of salt. Our feet benefited too!
As far as experiences go in the day so many firsts including finding horseshoe crabs amongst the cockles and oysters! The lunch was endless and tasty and the farm setting was serene. We loved being immersed in local life away from others. Just book it! Take a moment to find new friends and appreciate local life as it really is. We can guarantee you’ll want more.

From the moment Sarah and I met Hansa (Ping) and A we knew we were going to enjoy the day. They are an engaging couple full to the brim with knowledge. We packed in a lot experiences and knowledge but at no time did the day feel hurried. Quite the opposite, as this was a day of relaxation and preposterously good food.
We began our day at the Mangrove forest conservation centre. A collaborative effort between the local community and the local university. A gentle stroll along the boardwalks while Ping and A talked us through the conservation work that is underway (a real labour of love). You will also see the stark effects of rising sea levels.
We then paid a visit to a local salt farm. A beautiful combination of traditional farming techniques (you get to squidge about in the salt paddocks), excellent food and drinks in the cafe (the ice cream and toast a personal favourite) and artisan products made with their farmed salt (I bought some salt for cooking, it's fabulous stuff!)
From there we took a boat ride to the Saen Tor fishing village. If you've seen the James Bond film 'The Man With The Golden Gun' it's one of those boats 😁 Great fun! At the fishing village you will meet two of the nicest people on earth, Auntie Sim and Uncle Rangsan. We were given ice cold Pandan tea to refresh us and then lunch started to arrive. Oh my word! If you like food you'll love Auntie Sim' s cooking. I think there were seven different dishes, each made with ingredients they either grow or catch. Real paddock to plate food. After lunch you can kayak, swim or gather cockles and oysters. We went for the cockle and oyster picking. Such fun spending an hour or so in the water. Of course you then get to eat your haul.
Sadly we had to leave Auntie and Uncle to get back to Bangkok. We could have stayed there forever. If anyone thinks that a 7 hour tour is going to be too long, let me assure you that it isn't. We are so glad that we got away from the hustle and bustle, the heat and the noise, of Bangkok for this tranquil and quite frankly delicious day trip.
Thankyou Ping and A and sorry for talking about Permaculture all day!

Hansa was most attentive person. She renembered my gluten free needs and got me snacks I could eat.
The trip to the mangrove forest was educational. We had never knew sea cat existed before. We said mud skippers and the little ones were cute. We walked away with much better understanding of the ecosystem of mangrove forests.
The trip to the salt farm was interesting. Because of recent rain, they could not harvest salt yet but we learned about the separation and collection of salt. We were lucky to witness how the farm workers caught fish. They were so kind to give us a fish for lunch.
The lunch at our host family at the fishing village was by far the most. We were kind of worry because we didn't know what to expect but our host peeled us local fruits and made us an herbal ice tea. Our hostess prepared so many dishes they we couldn't finish. There were prawns, green papaya salad with peanut, egg rolls, crabs, mussles, and the fish we got from the salt farm workers. Then we tried our luck with cockles picking but it was high tide and finding the cockles was a difficult task. We found six and called it quit. Thanks to Hansa, we had many fond memories and met some very nice locals.Had a great time and learned a lot

My companions and I didn’t have much time to plan for the trip. However, we wanted an experience that is different from the norm and because photos posted by Hansa looks great and so we picked the tour.....
We had a memorable experience that is throughly enjoyable and full of funs. I believed that we were a very lucky group as we were the first to enjoy unforgiving weather that has thunderstorm and super heat all in the same day! However non of that spoilt the fun for us as Hansa has taken great care of us with her gentleness and great knowledge of the places chosen. The places chosen are scenic and I highly recommend anyone who has a drones to bring one for the occasions. The salt farm , mangroves and fishing place are simply beautiful!
Be prepared to get dirty after your lunch! You should really jump in the pools and pick some cockles. The experience is simple therepatic! Aunty Sim is really a good cook and great host!
All in all, this is an experience of what one can hope for when you sign up for a Withlocals ! Hope to see Hansa and A again really soon!
Thank you Pink & A!

Hansa was a great tour guide for my wife and I, thank you!
The meeting instructions were very clear, and after that Hansa drove us around everywhere. We saw local sights and sampled some delicious food whilst sharing stories with Hansa, who is a very warm person with great English. Would definitely recommend this experience. Her family cooked some amazing food including fresh fish. Auntie and Uncle were very welcoming and inviting into their home. A great way to spend a day in Bangkok. Great unique experience

We really enjoyed this experience and highly recommend a day with Hansa if you want an opportunity to see another side to Bangkok. It was a relaxing and informative day, with a home cooked meal by Auntie that was amazing. But the highlight was being in Hansa's company all day and being able to learn from her about many aspects of Thai life, culture, and environment that we would otherwise not have known about. I was so glad to discover this particular "local" to share the day with!Lovely day getting to know another side of

Going to the village and meeting Auntie and Uncle was the most memorable experience ever! Harvesting our own shellfish and having them cook them for us was simply amazing. We went on a trip with Hansa who especially created a trip for us. We had some special wishes which Hansa completed succesfully. Hansa showed us around and the owners of the salt farm we went were so nice. We loved the tour and the local people. Hansa thank you for everything, we had an amazing day. The perfect day

Hansa is top notch! From her prompt responses at the beginning of the reservation process, to her flexibility and problem-solving when working out the tour (we had a unique meeting spot and some unusual logistics, but no problem for Hansa), to following up afterwards and sharing photos of the big day - Hansa was everything I had hoped for - AND MORE!
The tour itself is a unique and unforgettable day out of Bangkok, down to the Gulf of Thailand. Hansa has family contacts to make the Salt Farm visit more personal, and the lunch in Auntie's home on stilts in the fishing village - well, that was a story that will be retold for a long time :)
I encourage you to hire Hansa. It will likely be the highlight of your trip to Thailand! You are in for a TREAT with Hansa!

Hansa and A were wonderful, thoughtful, kind and funny hosts. We had the most unique experience thanks to them. We just hope they enjoyed our company as much as we did theirs! The highlight of the trip was the fishing village. Auntie and uncle welcomed us like we were family! They prepared us at least 10 dishes, one is more delicious than the next . They are sweet and amazing people, we were blown away by their hospitality. Thank you so much!! We highly recommend this tour!Amazing Day!

We enjoyed our day with Hansa at the mangroves and the fishing village! Our twin 6-year-old boys had a great time with the hands on activities - much better than a day our touring the temples! We missed the salt farm as the salt had already been harvested but our afternoon with Uncle and Andy was great - what a warm and inviting family! We jumped in the water and picked cockles. One of my boys found a crab. The lunch was delicious. Yes, there is mud in the water but it was no big deal. It washed right out of our bathing suits. Don't let that deter you from this activity - it was a lot of fun! Great Day With Hansa

Pink and A are amazing host, a kind, genuine, thoughtful, generous couple who bring the best of Bangkok to us. Knowing we would love to join the tour, though Pink was not in Bangkok that weekend, she offered to have A (Pink's husband) to guide us, and was so flexible to let my friend join us the last minute. 3 of us was welcomed by A at the station with some treats;) We saw some of the most beautiful parts of Bangkok, we love this local experience. We started with the Mangrove, the blue Kingfisher and the amazing view of the gulf of Thailand; got a chance to see the salt farm, along with one of the best cappuccino in our trip, last stop and also the parts we love most, we were welcomed by uncle and aunties at their beautiful home. Hmm... i think auntie prepared more than 10 dishes for us... and she lets me cook and taught me her secrets:) We were the happiest people on earth! Though we don't get to meet Pink in the end but we met their friend Wong, who is also very nice! Maybe a beer or two would have made this extraordinary perfect! We will definitely ask Pink and A to show us more of bangkok when we return! and hope to visit uncle and auntie again! Thank you P & A!What else can we ask for?

It was such a unique experience I never thought I'd be able to have in Bangkok! The host and her husband were both super lovely and they really made us feel as if we were traveling with friends. We first walked around the beautiful mangrove area and then we visited the salt farm. Although it was not in its full swing as it was the rainy season but we still enjoyed our time taking a peek at the warehouse where there were mountains of salt and we roamed around in the salt field a bit. Then they took us to a cute roadside cafe for a little break before heading out on a boat to the most charming fishing village ever. The family at the fishing village was so nice and they cooked us a hearty feast full of fresh and yummy seafood. We also got to make different versions of papaya salad ourselves which was great fun. We also went for a nice kayaking ride after lunch, attempting to burn off a few calories. We really didn't want to leave. Thank you so much for a wonderful day out! We recommend this tour to anyone that wants to see a more unique and local side of Bangkok besides the usual malls, massages and luxury hotels. Private Day Trip to a local Fishing Village
