We connected with Artur via Withlocals chat prior to our tour, and he gave us wonderful recommendations for things to do before we met up with him. It was Voting Day in Bruges, which it turns out led to early closing of several spots Artur had hoped to take us; but since he gave us suggestions earlier in the day, we were able to get to those anyway (they were great!); then we got to a few possibly lesser known, but really fun, local pubs with Artur. Several beers that were "only poured in this location." It was an excellent tour, and Artur was great fun to spend time with. He knows his beers and conveys, as well, his love of Bruges. Alain gave us the option of adding a boat trip to tour, which started things off and finished with a reservation at a flemish restaurant. Alain was everything we could have hoped for in a beer tour, and then some. He is a man of many talents who used to work in the restaurant industry and now gives guided boat tours up and down the Bruges canals. We stopped at three local watering holes for multiple beers at each, and Alain taught us about each variety. He even called his friend and restaurant owner to get us a dinner reservation for our last night in the city. Our tour and drinks with him was a major highlight of our three day stay in Bruges. For anyone thinking of visiting, this guy will show you the ropes like a well traveled true local. Fantastic experience!!

Wil je wat bijzonders, wil je wat anders dan een standaard tour en wil je echt meer van Brugge en de heerlijke biertjes weten? Boek dan bij Alain. Hij weet zo veel moois te vertellen en neemt uitgebreid de tijd en aandacht voor jou. Wij hebben er heerlijk van genoten en naast het mooie aanbod aan bier (welke hij na een kort gesprek over onze voorkeuren) uitstekend wist te finetunen naar onze wens maar tegelijkertijd heel erg Belgisch bleef, hebben we echt mooie locaties bezocht die we anders niet hadden gevonden in het vele wat Brugge te bieden heeft. Dit is een aanrader en 1 van de absolute hoogtepunten van ons bezoek. De persoonlijke begeleiding maakte ook dat er ruimte en tijd was voor een persoonlijk verhaal waarbij wij ons heerlijk op het gemak voelde. Bij het afscheid in een door hem aangeraden restaurant, kregen we ook nog een lijst aan "hotspots voor locals" mee. It was our first try with this platform hoping to find local flavour and insight on our visit...We were frankly disappointed and think the platform oversell the calibre of the locals as tour guides asking pro price by not really delivering. Our guide was changed a few hours before tour and Xavier did not provide any of the things we expected to find for a rather steep fee. While 3 beers were included, no snack that was advertised materialised, no historical context, fun facts, or insight into beer tradition generally. We had beers at 3 nice pubs with a bit of socialising...not our idea of a guided tour or "beer tradition experience". There are cheaper similar tours available so don't waste your money on this one...Disappointing value for money

Alain cancelled our tour with only one hour notice. We went to Bruges on what ended up being Ascention day (45 days after Easter). This is a national Holiday where the Procession of the Holy Blood comes through Bruges. We knew it would be busy so we planned ahead and got there very early. Alain forgot about the National holiday, so he cancelled our tour with extremely short notice. We offered to even be flexible on time to work with him, and he still refused to do our tour because of a later tour. While he was apologetic, and we’re getting a refund for the tour it really messed up our plans. Because we got such late notice we could not book another tour or make plans to do something else which was very frustrating as we were only in Bruges for one day. Had we known he would cancel we would’ve rearranged our travel schedule to come a day earlier. I would caution others when booking to consider that because you’re booking with an individual and not a large company if anything goes wrong there is no back up, and you’ll be left in the same boat. Also since it’s a private tour there isn’t as much pressure on the guides part I feel to not cancel. Late Cancellation
