My husband and I were spending two nights in Bruges, and we wanted to explore the area with a local to see parts of Bruges that we might otherwise miss, learn more about the history of the city, and of course taste some of its specialties. We arrived at the meeting point about ten minutes early, and Tom was already there waiting for us. Tom took us all over Bruges, showed us landmarks and explained so much history with great stories. He was very engaging, and also very patient with my many stops to take photos. Tom offered us a nice variety of local foods and drinks to sample. We really enjoyed them all, but our favorite tasting stops were the chocolatier and the brewery. All-in-all, I would say that our tour of Bruges made for an absolutely perfect afternoon. We booked the food tour with Patrick for my 30th birthday celebration in Brugge. Patrick was accommodating to our request and was kindly able to fit 5 of us into a private tour at a relatively short notice. Our ages ranged from 18 years old to 87 years old, and we all enjoyed the conversation, the views of the city, and mainly, the FOOD! Patrick was a great conversationalist, and seemed genuinely interested in learning about our group. He took us to several local restaurants, a brewery, and some local shops for nibbles of Belgian chocolate, candies, and cheeses. We left the tour highly satisfied and full, grateful for a fun experience with a local from Brugge. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the city! We made two great decisions - we encourage you to do the same... So, the first decision was to visit Bruges. It was a day trip, and is it really worth it ? The answer is definitely yes - worth the trip - old city, lots to see and visit, great food, easy train ride from Brussels. The second decision was to visit Bruges with Patrick. His knowledge of and passion for the city is outstanding. We were full culturally and gastronomically full after our visit in a most pleasant way. Had dinner with Martine and Olav in their charming apartment along a canal. Two women from Texas and a young couple from Spain were in our group. Everyone was friendly and Martine and Olav were excellent hosts The multi course dinner was absolutely delicious and we had some traditional dishes.
