Marco was an excellent tour guide who speaks flawless English. We learned lots about Dubrovnik history and about modern Dubrovnik. Marco answered all our questions and gave us pointers on food and craft beer. When he found out that some of the group are Game of Thrones fans, he told us about the filming in the city. Our flight to Dubrovnik was delayed but Vesna did her absolute best to accommodate our schedule. Vesna was personable, knowledgeable and gracious. She gave us an excellent tour of Dubrovnik which provided a first hand account of the war in 1991. Prior to that time, we really had not known that much about it. As a Dubrovnik native, Marko was incredibly knowledgeable about Croatia, the city and its history. He told us remarkable and personal stories about the 1991-92 war and its effect on Croatia. He was flexible so that he easily tailored the tour to meet our needs. Besides Dubrovnik (and yes Game of Throne scenes), we went to Mount Srd for scenic views and Lokrum, a beautiful bio-diverse island. Marco exceeded our expectations. He lead us through Dubrovnik with great history, funny stories and patience. Our large group of 14 was grateful for the transportation from our cruise port to the city gates. Marco helped us shop, arranged for a tour of Lokrum island. He arranged for a lovely lunch at the only restaurant on the island and took us through ruins and botanical gardens. We enjoyed swimming on the island and cliff jumping into the clear waters. Jardanka showed us Dubrovnik old town in a way that we could appreciate her town without being overwhelmed with history. She pointed out the less obvious things around old town away from the crowds. Her recommendations lead us to explore Lokrum island the following day which is a gem especially if you want to get away from the crowds and hike around the island. Our tour with Vesna was one of the highlights of our time in Croatia. She grew up inside the walls of Dubrovnik—a true local in a seemingly fairytale place. Her description of how her family lived during the war moved me to tears, and left us with images of what life inside the walls was really like. This tour was unique as it combined the old history of the city with its more recent history. We ended our tour with a much greater appreciation for the place. We spent much of our trip trying to learn more about the war. Vesna is such a genuine, lovely person. She was so generous in sharing her very personal stories with us. Jadranka was everything you want in a local guide. We enjoyed watching her interactions with several local residents, and loved how kindly she spoke with them, and how they obviously adored her. I mentioned to her that one of our party needed a slower pace, and she accommodated this request with grace and patience. All of us really enjoyed the food and the ambiance of the restaurants she took us to, but her personality was what we all remarked on afterwards. I chose to combine Visna‘s Medieval and War tours. She is a walking encyclopaedia of Dubrovnik and told me many quirky, funny and dark stories but my favourite parts of the tour were the most unique of all; her stories of the war. She lived (and still lives!) in Dubrovnik‘s old town during the war and has many inspirational, sad and heartwarming stories to tell. Vesna has encyclopedic knowledge as a historian and she tells the story in such a way that I will never forget it. Our tour with Jadranka was our third tour in our 3 days in Dubrovnik, and she made sure we were seeing new things and not repeating information from the other tour guides. We had a lovely evening with Jadranka. She was very sweet and knew lots about the city of Dubrovnik. She was also flexible, allowing the men in our group to get beer instead of wine which was very much appreciated. The tour itself just wasn’t quite what we were expecting. We thought we’d be making three stops for different types of drinks and hotspots. It was more of a wine and tasting experience since we only stopped at two wine bars instead of 3 diverse nightlife spots. The boys in our group don’t drink wine so we never would have booked if if we knew that’s what the tour entailed. We did have a lovely time but it wasn’t what we were hoping to experience.Fun but not what we were expecting..
