We spent five hours on a tour of the old town with Marko. His knowledge, passion, enthusiasm and humour meant that it passed by in what seemed like only two hours. Marko made the whole experience worthwhile. His suggestions and local knowledge ensured we got to see the best of Dubrovnik. It was a pleasure to have seen it through his eyes. He communicated prior to us meeting through WhatsApp and ensured he covered all of the things we wanted to do and see. He even used his own car to transport us around, which was spotlessly clean. An added touch was the thoughtful bottle of water he provided for us and he also treated us to refreshments halfway through the tour. “The wine tasting and street food tour is a great experience, not just for the excellent wine and cheese to start, but also for the opportunity to sit and chat with a local, being able to ask any questions. The evening was fun, we learned quite a bit about Dubrovnik itself and its development of the tourist industry in the last few years. It wasn't just a dry lecture, it was a fun conversation where Romana was very open about different cultural aspects, giving advice on how to further plan the holiday and just general smalltalk. While the main streets are quite busy in the evening, the wine bar and the street food shop werent too crowded and still allowed for a decent conversation without having to shout to get over the noise. Overall would definitely recommend the tour to get a more personal view and experience in dubrovnik.”Local experience

I organised this tour for 2 for my partner's birthday. I chose Vesna based on previous reviews. Vesna not only gave a superb tour, but was able to answer our many questions about what we were seeing and history of recent happenings in history. I asked Vesna to direct us to a bakery but she surpassed this by taking us to an excellent restaurant for bubbles and choice and cake. We had only a day and a half in Dubrovnik and needed someone to give us an overview upon which we could make the most of our time in the city. Marko more than filled that need. “I cannot recommend Romana highly enough! She is the friendliest and loveliest tour guide we have ever had! It was such a wonderful tour being shown Dubrovnik from a local, she showed us hidden gems and gave us excellent advice from food recommendations to tourist information. She recommended excellent restaurants to eat at and took us to a local shop (which we would have never found by ourselves) where we had some local cuisine and coffee which was delicious, we even bought t-shirts from her fathers shop which was great value and a lovely reminder of our trip. This was the highlight of our trip and exceeded expectations. I highly recommend Romana’s tour as it made our stay in Dubrovnik so much more than the few tourist things you think of doing. Our flight to Dubrovnik was delayed but Vesna did her absolute best to accommodate our schedule. Vesna was personable, knowledgeable and gracious. She gave us an excellent tour of Dubrovnik which provided a first hand account of the war in 1991. Prior to that time, we really had not known that much about it. As a Dubrovnik native, Marko was incredibly knowledgeable about Croatia, the city and its history. He told us remarkable and personal stories about the 1991-92 war and its effect on Croatia. He was flexible so that he easily tailored the tour to meet our needs. Besides Dubrovnik (and yes Game of Throne scenes), we went to Mount Srd for scenic views and Lokrum, a beautiful bio-diverse island. Marco exceeded our expectations. He lead us through Dubrovnik with great history, funny stories and patience. Our large group of 14 was grateful for the transportation from our cruise port to the city gates. Marco helped us shop, arranged for a tour of Lokrum island. He arranged for a lovely lunch at the only restaurant on the island and took us through ruins and botanical gardens. We enjoyed swimming on the island and cliff jumping into the clear waters. Jardanka showed us Dubrovnik old town in a way that we could appreciate her town without being overwhelmed with history. She pointed out the less obvious things around old town away from the crowds. Our tour with Vesna was one of the highlights of our time in Croatia. She grew up inside the walls of Dubrovnik—a true local in a seemingly fairytale place. Her description of how her family lived during the war moved me to tears, and left us with images of what life inside the walls was really like. This tour was unique as it combined the old history of the city with its more recent history. We ended our tour with a much greater appreciation for the place. We spent much of our trip trying to learn more about the war. Vesna is such a genuine, lovely person. She was so generous in sharing her very personal stories with us. Jadranka was everything you want in a local guide. We enjoyed watching her interactions with several local residents, and loved how kindly she spoke with them, and how they obviously adored her. I mentioned to her that one of our party needed a slower pace, and she accommodated this request with grace and patience. All of us really enjoyed the food and the ambiance of the restaurants she took us to, but her personality was what we all remarked on afterwards. I chose to combine Visna‘s Medieval and War tours. She is a walking encyclopaedia of Dubrovnik and told me many quirky, funny and dark stories but my favourite parts of the tour were the most unique of all; her stories of the war. We are deeply appreciative of the time we got to spend learning about Yugoslavia’s complicated history. Vesna has encyclopedic knowledge as a historian and she tells the story in such a way that I will never forget it. Our tour with Jadranka was our third tour in our 3 days in Dubrovnik, and she made sure we were seeing new things and not repeating information from the other tour guides.
