We are a group of three friends who spent the day on a walking tour of Old Town Istanbul with Abdullah. He is the best! In a city of millions, we never walked far without Abdullah knowing someone. He took us into the city’s hidden gems where we tasted meat roasting on a spit, watched silversmiths do their craft, had amazing rooftop views, drank chai with the locals in a 400 year old establishment, ate an incredible kabob lunch, toured the Cistern, Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar, and the Mosque of Suleyman the Magnificent. Abdullah is like a walking history book and shares his knowledge, wisdom, and humor in such a personable way. Spending our first day in Istanbul with Abdullah was a great decision. I booked this tour for a Friday which is Jumu'ah (prayer day). Many mosques had lot of locals for praying and tourists for visiting. I modified the visit, we went to Topkapi palace, then to Sulemaniyeh mosque which had mostly locals. We walked around the Grand Bazar, Galata bridge, Kadakoy and all over the streets around Sultanahmet. Abdullah has traveled extensively around the world, he is able to narrate stories and tales in a way that makes sense to foreigners. We were lucky enough to have chosen Kadir for the Full Coverage tour in Istanbul in 05/2024. Our day, and it was a full day since we were with him from about 10 AM to 9 PM, with Kadir was the reason we book guides. He took us places we would never have gone to on our own, gave us insights into the places we visited that would have been difficult to find and introduced us to people we certainly would not have otherwise met. Kadir was welcoming, friendly, happy to go at our pace as we slowed things down some to do some shopping and in a word, avuncular. He also transformed Istanbul from a sprawling, hectic city full of busy people to a place of neighborhoods, history, and friendly individuals. We had the pleasure of Mine’s company for a whole day tour on our second day in Istanbul, and asked her to concentrate on the Galata District on the north bank of the Golden Horn branch of the Bosporus. We spent some time in the Dolmabahce Palace, where Mine’s knowledge of the history, architecture, decor and art was amazing. We got an insight into her kind personality when she produced a bag of food for the stray cats inhabiting the Palace. The area was very up and down! - I knew Istanbul was built on 7 hills like Rome, but didn’t realise how steep they were! The streets around the Galata Tower held treasures and stories that Mine was keen to recount. We had a fabulous lunch in a terrace restaurant overlooking the Galata Bridge. Istiklal Caddesi would have been like any other major city shopping area (except for the old tram running in the middle), but for the many detours Mine took us, in and out of the side streets and quaint passages, and the stop for Turkish ‘chewy’ ice-cream. We had hoped to attend the Mevlevi ‘Whirling Dervish’ Ceremony in Galata, but, because of a fatal mining disaster that weekend in Northern Turkey, it was cancelled. Mine immediately jumped on her phone and got us tickets for the performance at Hodjapasha on the South bank of Istanbul later that evening and made sure we got in the correct tram with detailed directions to the venue and then back to our hotel. She really was a star and left a lasting impression. She was very knowledgable about places to eat and I’m sure would do a great ‘foodie’ tour as well.Mine of information Mine

I arrived Istanbul with the idea of exploring the city on my own, did a bit on my arrival night I and realized I wasn’t going to get the best of my stay if I didn’t have someone explaining what I was seeing… I’m so happy I booked my full day tour with Kadir. We connected since the 1st minute. Kadir not only took me to see all the highlights but took me to places that I wouldn’t go on my own (like to Pudding Shop to drink coffee). He is a born historian /story teller, I loved how he explained everything about the history and the culture. We did a few stops to try food… on the walk - since I didn’t want to stop to spend time in a restaurant! This review doesn’t make justice for the wonderful day I spent with Kadir… but honestly words wouldn’t explain it… just click and book with him, you won’t regret. Unbeatable day!
