My friend and I had a fabulous and informative 5 hour tour with Inês. She came earlier than scheduled to our hotel and then began a journey of information and fun. We had a private tour with Lucia at the end of April, booked through Withlocals – and it was simply perfect! Communication beforehand via WhatsApp was smooth and personal. Lucia really tailored the experience to our group – we weren’t looking for dry facts and figures, and she picked up on that immediately. We saw all the major highlights, heard fascinating stories, and got so many insider tips for the rest of our stay. One of the spontaneous highlights was stopping by a local tavern to enjoy a glass of Ginjinha. Lucia speaks excellent German and has such a warm and engaging personality. Jorge brought me to a seafood place and had the most amazing shrimps I've had in my life. Having been allocated two guides , Marisa was finally allocated to us. I must say we could not have had a better guide than the wonderful Marisa who quickly became our friend! Unfortunately, we were disappointed by the experience and feel it did not align with what was advertised. The tour lacked the depth and substance we were expecting. There were no meaningful talking points or historical insights shared, and we didn’t stop at any locations for further explanation or context. It felt more like a basic walk with brief identifications of buildings rather than an engaging, informative experience. To be candid, we believe we would have received more value from a complimentary walking tour, which is quite disheartening given the investment we made. I don’t usually rate unless the tour was exceptional. We loved spending our morning with João. We saw places we never would have found ourselves, heard great stories about history, both remote and recent. João is an excellent guide. He shared his historical knowledge of the city and the country with us. He gave us his personal insights and understanding of the Jewish heritage in Lisbon. He took us to the modern memorial stone. There isn't much left behind of 300 years of Jewish presence due to the destruction caused by the earthquake. It wiped out more than half the city. He was sensitive to the fact we weren't used to walking the steep hills of this beautiful city. He took us to see some amazing views. Finally he showed us a great place to eat dinner.
