We had a great time discovering Tokyo with Gulay who showed us areas that we would not have found and who provided us with the historical and cultural background to understand Tokyo. Why do they have cat and otter cafes? Pets are typically not allowed in apartments. How do you show respect at the Meiji Jingu? You bow before entering the gate. We also learned about Harajuku fashion, discovered sushi sandwiches, candied strawberries and did the Shibuya Scramble. It was a fun day.Tokyo discovered

Gulay gave me and my work colleague and fantastic tour of modern Tokyo. I didn’t realize it at the time but as a foreigner (albeit one that’s a professional guide that’s lived in Tokyo for years), she understands what’s interesting for us and not. A freak snow and rainstorm interrupted our tour and she rolled with punches and took us to experience a restaurant while we warmed up. Very happy and would recommend to any foreigner in Japan interested in getting a good overview of the city and history. Great tour - unique perspective

The Tour with Gulay was perfect for is. We arrived in the afternoon in Tokio and in the evening we started the 1,5 h Tour in shibuja. Gulay gave us a lot of information about how we have to move forward in this big City and explore the best places. At the end of the tour we visited a Food court near shibuja crossing and enjoyed the evening with traditionell Japan Food. It was a pleasure for us to meet Gulay. We took two tours with Carlos both great, exactly what we were looking for. We had the opportunity to see more than just the tourist side, and Carlos was able to understand our interests and tailor the trip according to our wishes. Keep in mind that we have two teens in our group, so we wanted the tour to be interesting for everyone, regardless of age. I cannot recommend Gulay highly enough! We did a 90mins tour starting next to the famous Shibuya Crossing and then explored the area. Gulay showed us some great hidden gems like little bars, the best ramen places and a small neighborhood where the locals live. She also really kindly bought us some matcha drinks and cake :) Gulay was super knowledgeable about the history and culture of Tokyo, answered all our questions and gave us some amazing recommendations for restaurants and sites to visit and avoid. Honestly felt like we were going around with a friend we’d known for years. 100% recommend! Thanks Gulay :) The perfect tour guide!

Gulay led us on a thorough kickstart tour of Tokyo. We met at the Meiji Shrine and had a great intro to the history of Japan. Learned of Shinto and Buddhist customs. Walked to Harajuku and got snacks, shopped, and dropped in on an otter cafe experience which was great. Took the metro for one stop and walked through Shibuya, experiencing the crossing and Hachiko statue. Gulay helped acquaint us with the metro and JR lines, and gave us ideas for other sights to see in the upcoming days. Highly recommend!Great intro to Tokyo

Gulay was just perfect—personable, communicative, thoughtful, immensely helpful, patient, and flexible. She went above and beyond to provide cultural and practical overviews of Tokyo. She was a tremendous help with navigating every aspect of our transportation needs, including side trips to Hakona and Kyoto. We would have been completely lost without her. Gulay was extremely knowledgeable about our destinations, including Harjuku and the Meiji Shrine. She even brought coins for us to use at the shrine! Such a thoughtful touch. And Gulay was perceptive about our interests and schedule, making just the right tweaks to suit our energy levels and interests. Carlos was wonderful right from the time of booking. I asked lots of questions and he answered them thoroughly and immediately. He texted us the night before to inform us of his arrival time. He was very friendly and informative. He took us to two wonderful establishments to eat during our 5 hour private tour. He showed us how to use the train lines. I did a three hour food tour with Carlos and it was great. Carlos is easy to get along with and a great guide. He speaks English, Spanish and Japanese. We sampled a variety of food from different shops. Most had lines which told me that the locals like the food. He runs the tour a little outside of Shibuya where the shop owners are more friendly. I paced myself and only ate about 75% of everything. Glad I did because there is a lot of food. If your a foodie, you’ll love this tour. Great food tour

We had asked to see the non touristy side of the city as complete Japan novices and Carlos delivered. It was fascinating to hear his take on Japanese every day life and culture as a long term resident. We walked and talked and felt at the end we knew a lot more about the history of Tokyo and also about the way of life of the Japanese people.
