What you can expect
Funchal is the capital of the Madeira Islands. With 600 years of existence, the city has a lot of history in its back: from being a stopover for ships to the Indies, a place that suffered pirates attacks and the place for some European Royals to spend their holidays.
Let me show you the traditional spots of Funchal and some other off the beaten track in a walking tour that will take around 3 hours. While walking, we make 4 stops to taste some of the most traditional flavours of Madeira: 2 snacks and 2 drinks.
I know Funchal very well and I have been doing these walking city tours for 3 years. I love sharing my knowledge of the city with my Guests and, especially, sharing the original Madeiran flavours, because, through them you also discover a culture.

Lavradores Market:
Discover the colors of the most exotic fruit of the world, its flavours and aromas. -
Rua Santa Maria:
Walk through the oldest street in Funchal, from where the city began and discover the painted doors from the "Open Doors" project, from local artist and amateurs. -
São Thiago Fortress:
From the terrace of the Fortress, get involved with the fantastic view of Funchal. -
Stop for Poncha:
In the middle of our walking tour, let's relax while enjoying one of the most iconic cocktails of Madeira: the famous Poncha. -
Sé Cathedral :
Enter on of the UNESCO World heritage Monuments and get delighted by its magnificence. -
Santa Catarina's Park:
Walk through one of the most important parks in Madeira, between flowers and lizards. -
Stop for Chocolate:
Get the chance to discover and enjoy one of the best chocolates you'll ever taste: handcraft chocolate bombons. -
End of the tour:
After walking, nothing better than finishing with a Madeira Wine with a local Madeira Wine maker, surrounded by old Madeira bottles and Cask of different Madeira Wine. -

More about me
Do you like to always walk to the same street in your daily routine or do you prefer to choose different ways to get to the same place? I'm one of those people that loves to change the way I get to my job, to my kids'school, to the supermarket because I know that I may find something new, something different. And I specially love doing this when I am discovering a new place.
I studied Political Science so history is a passion to me so I always try to discover the hidden history of the places I'm interesting in. Funchal is one of those places. I wasn't born here. I discover it a long time ago I got fascinated by its history and the culture that is hidden in this city, from a discover that became a legend, pirate attacks to the madeira wine trade.
