We spent a full day with Santiago as he guided us through Bilbao and La Rioja. He expertly mixed entertainment, education, luxury, and relaxation throughout the day as he taught us about the history, cultures, and people of Basque Country and La Rioja. This was our first time booking through WithLocals, and we were extremely fortunate to have found Santi. The food was excellent. The wine was delicious. And as a guide (and person), Santi is amazing. His English is excellent and it very quickly felt like we were traveling around with a long-time friend instead of a guide; it´s a real testament to him.

We loved our tour with Joseba. He knows so much about Bilbao and the Basque history. He pointed out the best places to eat Pinxtos and where to buy sweet specialities like the Bollo de Mantequilla. Due to a late arrival in Bilbao on our part and the end of a 10 day long fiesta in Bilbao, we rescheduled our Pinxoa tour to the Monday lunch at Laura’s suggestion. This was brilliant as the massive crowds had well and truly dispersed and even though some of Laura’s favourite bars weren’t open we still had a wonderful experience. We did a bit more exploring, up to the cathedral on the hill after our first Pinxos and then back into town for a couple more bars.
Laura is a warm and friendly host and it was lovely to talk to her about her experiences in moving to Bilbao with her Basque husband 6 years ago.
We would thoroughly recommend Laura as a host as she is also very accommodating in switching plans if need be and she also gave us a great recommendation for dinner on our first night. Traditional Basque food cooked in a lovely low key restaurant in the Old Town. What a magnificent host Laura is!

We had a wonderful experience with Joseba in Bilbao!
He was a local and also deeply knowledgeable. It showed in the way he introduced the city to us, locating it in history and geography and crafting the walk accordingly. Once he gauged our degree of interest and level of knowledge, he picked up on our questions and added further interesting information. After a leisurely drink mid-walk, we ended our tour thoroughly satisfied that we’d got as good an overview of the city, and the history and culture of the Basque region, as we possibly could as visitors.

We chose the 10 Tastings in Bilbao in order to learn more about the local culture and foods. Laura was our guide and could not have done a better job. She treated us like family, taught us about the local foods, and was very patient with our slower style of movement. She thought of everything as our food tour progressed from breakfast type foods to more hearty dishes. She even brought an extra umbrella for us to use since we were visiting from a cruise ship.
Realizing our time was limited because of the cruise, Laura took us to the Guggenheim and assisted with a taxi back to our ship. We had a bike trip with guide Joseba on our first day in Bilbao. It was the best guided tour we ever had. Joseba knows a lot about culture, history, nice food spots, hidden gems, sports, … .
