Ellie was the perfect tour guide, providing in-depth explanations of what inspired Antoni Gaudi's designs and pointing out details in his architecture we would never have noticed on our own. English is her native language, and she also speaks fluent Spanish and Catalon. Ellie was very knowledgeable of the history of Gaudi and the architecture of the area. Great overview to provide perspective on how the buildings were designed and why. Of particular note, was that Ellie not only provided the view of the Gaudi architecture but also the contrasting elements of the other buildings around the area and the style (and competition) between the various families to produce the buildings they lived in. The Sagrada Familia tour on the outside was very insightful in telling the full story of the complexity around the building and the thought into every detail which would not be seen without a good tour guide like Ellie. Ellie was a great host. She's very friendly and knowledgable about Gaudi and the architecture of La Sagrada. I was a little surprised when she told us she wasn't going inside La Sagrada with us and feared we might lose something from not having her explain the inside to us - but she was right, the inside is a personal experience, and we didn't need her to accompany us. But the outside is a complicate marvel, and we were grateful for her expertise. She also shared "insider" trivia on the neighborhood near Casa Mila, and she gave us good tips for navigating around Barcelona. Our Gaudi walking tour with Ellie was both educational and entertaining. Ellie's passion for Gaudi's architecture and for Barcelona made for a wonderful experience. Although from Los Angeles originally, Ellie has deep knowledge of Barcelona after living here for more than 20 years. She was great at pointing out notable things that we might miss and providing context for the sites we saw.
