We went to Guimaraes and Braga with Andre. He is a nice guy. But, now that we had several tours with different guides from Withthelocals, we realized how much not up to standard out tour was. Again, Andre is a very nice guy and I'm hoping he will consider this message as a constructive criticism that will allow to improve customer experience in the future. - english is not very good. Pronouncing names and places in Portuguese version makes it very difficult to understand and learn. it was obvious discussion was very limited d/t difficulties with language - Andre was going around those 2 cities just pointing at the areas of interest without giving us a fascinating story about them and historical context. The experience felt very similar as one would be going around with a tour guide book without any additional explanations. We had to constantly ask pointed questions trying to elicit more information. - It was a whole day tour with a planned lunch. We believed it would be better if Andre recommended/planned a nice place for lunch instead of going around loosing time trying to find a place. - lastly, the drive itself. Andre took us in his car. He has a beautiful Mercedes from the 70s. Although a very nice car he very much enjoys, this is not the car to take us on a >1h tour. The ride was VERY bumpy with NO air-conditioner in the car, had to keep windows open even on high way. And again, no discussion/no explanations/stories during our ride. WE wouldnt recommend Andre. Again, he is a very nice guy but has a lot to learn. Unfortunately, didn't enjoy as much

André provided me and my family with a great tour of Guimaraes. He turned up right outside our apartment exactly on time and was really personable and easy to get along with. His knowledge of the town and of Portugal's history is second to none. Despite some problems with the car which resulted in us getting back to Porto 2 hours later than planned, we had a great day overall and I would happily take a tour with André again.Great tour with a knowledgable host

Our day of touring with Andre could not have been any better! Started with him graciously coming to meet us on our pedestrian only street rather than asking us to meet elsewhere in an unknown (to us) city. We traveled through the lovely countryside in his very cool vintage car. He was laid back, knowledgeable, friendly, and kind throughout...and especially patient when I reached my limit of stairs for the day! Always open for discussion and some friendly joking. He spent a lot of time and effort to get us as near as possible to "home" as there were huge crowds of Porto FC fans and many streets blocked for celebrations on our tour day. There is more I could say, but I will conclude with I am happy to have spent the day with Andre...we both are...and would highly recommend! A Glorious Day!

We happened to book this tour on 1st May which, as it turned out, meant that most places that we were to visit were closed for May Day. Unfortunately, neither Andre nor the other tour operators who had brought bus loads of tourists were aware of this. Hence, we had to improvise on the day's plan. We were able to cover a couple of the planned spots and Andre flexibly compensated for the rest of the plan by showing us a few more things around Porto that we hadn't seen as yet. Andre picked the two of us up right outside of our Airbnb in Porto at 9 am on the day of the tour. Since we were the only ones on the tour, the trip was personal and flexible as far as when/where we headed throughout the day in Guimarães. Andre was thoughtful and informative, and brought us to places we may not have gone had we gone to the city on our own! He also gave us some great tips for when we were back in Porto! My one regret is that I didn't pay closer attention to the website when booking because one of the reasons I chose With Locals was the advertised option to go on a tour that highlighted "hidden gems" and a local experience. André's profile noted his love of music and I was hoping the tour would revolve around that interest at least in part, but I now realize I should have hit the "customize this experience" button when booking. My mistake, but if that's what you're hoping for as well, be sure to request in advance.

Andre was a great guide with the perfect laid back vibe for our family with two teenagers. The 90 minutes flew by and yet we saw so much more than we ever would have on our own. We are a family of 4 and had a fantastic day out in the Douro Valley with André. The highlights of the tour were the viewing stops, breath-taking views, little cafes, restaurants and bars we went into plus the excellent choice of bespoke vineyard we visited for port tasting. André is very knowledgeable and passionate about his home territory, great information and good rapport. Even the small local village we went to had the most amazing church. So impressive. Big shout out for the Quinta do Tedo port tour, personal walk-through and very enjoyable. Also great to have pick up and drop off at rental apartment. Full day but well worth it and very memorable.
