Her food tour was not only steeped with Italian history and lessons in the language, but also on the local culture. Our dinner with warm and charming Emma and her family at their apartment was one of the highlights of our trip to Rome. She's a wonderful cook and treated us to a wide variety of local specialities, all of which were sumptuous! Emma was extremely experienced and we managed to learn and pick up the basics Italian within few hours! She brought us to a really nice and relaxed restaurant with great drinks! Her class is very easy going and relaxed. We truly experienced the authentic Italian culture with her. The learning materials are amazing and she is very patient to us. We got carried away and the class was overrunning but she was kind enough to cover all the topics before ending her class. I am definitely considering to go back and learn Italian from her!!! Emma is a really dynamic woman. She, her husband and son hosted us for a tremendous multi-course dinner at their quaint apartment in a wonderful area of Rome. We were their with our five children and all went extremely well, very real like new friends coming together. She showed us her techniques as well as old family recipes. I cannot recommend Emma highly enough. I’m so glad she was our teacher. Emma took us to a local bar and the owner was very kind. He created an environment where we could practice our Italian skills on him. Emma came with training aides which were helpful. My friend and I had several years of Spanish which helped us more quickly understand some of the words. However, having a previous romantic language is not required. I definitely plan on coming back to Italy and when I do, I will schedule more time with Emma. I plan to take some Italian lessons at home so hopefully Italian will be much better. If you want something interesting AND useful to do during your time in Rome, please schedule a language lesson with Emma. You’ll learn the language while sharing a great bottle of wine/coffee and appetizers! Learning Italian in Rome!

Emma uses a very effective, colorful teaching method. My husband didn’t know any Italian; now he feels much more confident on the long road to fluency and so do I knowing a little Italian. Emma also took us on a walking tour in a very nice, quiet and green neighborhood with only students and local people. Fnally she introduced us to an Enoteca with magnificent wines and local food. If my Latin treacher had 10% of Emma"s teaching attitude when in was young. I would have have been able to speak Italian since 1976. A must do , and a great teacher to learn with. We had a wonderful traditional Christmas dinner with Emma and company! Not only was the food prepared perfectly, Emma had paired each dish with a wine and taught us about the origins of each dish we enjoyed. It was truly an incredible and unique experience to sit and enjoy a home-cooked meal with people from around the world. We left very full and very happy! My daughter and I were very happy to be invited to spend an amazing four course luncheon on Christmas day, in Emma's home, with guests from many other countries. Everyone spoke English, which worked well as a common language, and we had a delightful time. Emma explained each course she had prepared and we all talked about the holiday customs in Italy and other countries. She served different wines with each course and a collection of desserts, including a wonderful gluten free cake. Emma very thoughtfully had both gluten free and gluten options for the guests, as well as a vegetarian option. Emma is a thoughtful and gracious hostess. We had originally signed up for the wine and Italian lesson, but Emma invited us to celebrate Christmas with a group of guests instead. We had a lovely time, feasting on traditional dishes from across Italy and learning more about the culture and traditions. Emma was very responsive to messages and accommodating for food sensitivities (there was a vegetarian in the group and a person following a gluten-free diet). Last week I had the pleasure of visiting Italy for the first time with 5 of my girlfriends. The very first excursion we scheduled was our dinner with Emma through Eating with Locals. Words cannot express what an awesome evening and experience our dinner with Emma was. We arrived on time and the table was set, waiting for us to devour our 4 course meal. Each meal was carefully prepared and delicious and there was no shortage of extras. We also had amazing wine and after dinner drinks. Our experience with Emma was fantastic! There were 6 of us traveling as a group as well as one other person she was hosting at her apartment. Emma was very communicative before and after our experience with her. She made a really tasty 4 course traditional Italian meal that consisted of Antipasti, Pasta, Meat and Dessert. We had great wine and after dinner Aparatifs. I loved her cozy apartment which was super clean, warm and inviting. I highly recommended this type of experience especially if booking with Emma. We booked two events with Emma and we were so happy that we did! The first night we were in Rome we met Emma for wine and an Italian lesson. It was really fun and she taught us some basics that we used during the rest of our trip. The next night we went to her home and enjoyed a delicious meal that she prepared for my husband and me. When she found out that she was from the same region where my grandparents were born, she prepared food typical to that region and even served a wine from my grandfather’s town! It was very special for me. We had great conversation and the food was excellent and plentiful! I just returned from a 3 week trip to Italy and Greece. On the very first night of my trip, hours after I'd landed in Rome, I met with Emma for a "learn Italian and drink wine" experience. It was wonderful! I knew that trying to learn Italian in detail was more than could be expected in such a short time, when I'd had so little time to work on my own before the trip. I asked Emma to teach me important phrases, but also to help me with culture and customs, so I could be a good guest in Italy. She was a HUGE help. It was also just a really fun evening in Rome, with delicious wine (I discovered a new favorite - Recite Della Valpolicella) and great conversation. I highly recommend this experience to anyone considering it!Perfect introduction to my trip!

Wonderful dinner with Emma - true Italian cuisine and inspired wines to match. My family truly enjoyed our meal, but even more we enjoyed Emma's conversation. She explained the courses, and talked about the markets where she shopped for our meal. Each course had a wine we could see that she had thoughtfully paired to make the tastes come alive on the palate. SInce I am a hobbyist chef myself, I marveled at the preparation - seemingly simple, but so perfectly executed. You will not find better roasted peppers in any trattoria, and the risotto was kissed with red wine. Her potatoes were a perfectly roasted - crisp on the outside, creamy on the inside. For dessert - Emma paired a chocolate sweet with an inspired wine we had never before tasted, and we ended up taking pictures of the label in the faint hope of finding it in America. Emma was a wonderful host, with interesting conversation and a beautiful setting. We hope to connect her to our friends and family when they visit Rome.
