What you can expect
The expression "back to basics" takes on a new reading after one has traveled around the world, don't you agree?
I'm happy to introduce you to my way of rediscovering my roots. I offer you a vivid nature experience that will boost your natural senses. You will explore the Vietnamese way of doing agriculture, play with herbs, pick your vegetables (for example mushrooms). You can milk a cows, see how to take care of buffaloes, and how we plant rice in fields.
You will explore the Vietnamese cuisine by picking all ingredients from our organic farm yourself and, together with the Master Chef, you get a hands-on experience cooking three dishes and 1 dessert.
There's more! You will participate in the process of rice paper making in the villages nearby. You will visit the Rubber Trees forest and witness how local people collect raw latex.
Any good meal finishes with a good coffee in Vietnam. Get your hands "dirty" by milking cows and then prepare aromatic Vietnamese coffee with fresh milk.

Healthy Cooking Class at Local Farm

15 January 2018
We were picked up by a van and taken to the farm which is located about an hour and a half outside the city.
The class started with picking our own fresh ingredients from the farm, very educational and fun to do, I loved it! However, soon the strong and unpleasant smell of cow and pig manure became unbearable so I decided to go inside and wait for the others to come back.
It took more than an hour before we finally got cooking. The chef often made jokes with a strong personal undertone which was not very well received by some of the other participants or myself. I expected more professionalism and focus on food and cooking.
The food was simple but tasty. The first course were tasty spring rolls with a delicious dipping sauce. Afterwards we made a BBQ pork dish followed by a chicken dish that were all very tasty and quite simple to prepare. In the meantime, the ingredients that we picked earlier were cleaned and pre-cut and ready to be used.
What I missed was the actual teaching/demonstrating of certain Asian cooking techniques.
After the class we received a print out of the recipes that I will definitely reproduce at home. It was O.K.

I met well-spoken Mr. Tan for lunch early at his healthy food cooking class. Set in the middle of the rice fields close to the tunnel complex, Mr. Tanβs cooking school is the perfect place to learn healthy Vietnamese cooking. While cooking up a storm for me straight on the veranda, with fresh soup and a stir-fried main dish, all the way up to homemade ice cream, Mr. tan told me in great lengths about his career in Australia, his return to Vietnam and his desire to promote healthy cooking with fresh local ingredients. All in all, a very authentic local eating experience, with a Western attention to detail and quality.Healthy Cooking Class at Local Farm

Getting to explore the Cu Chi tunnels and have a cooking class with Tan was the most unexpected day - we didnβt realise we would be visiting an organic farm outside the city, learning about the different ingredients, picking them ourselves and getting to cook 4 different meals. All this before visiting the Cu Chi tunnels with a private tour guide. It was the hottest day ever but we had a wonderful time getting to chat, cook and explore!A most unexpected day in the best way

We were picked up by Linh at our hotel. The farm was lovely and peaceful. We picked fresh ingredients for our meal and then were instructed in cooking a huge lunch. We learned some shortcuts and were also given the recipes at the end. We had a tour of the tunnels after lunch which was pretty standardβ¦being less crowded there in the afternoon was a bonus. You will be full!

I had a wonderful experience with Alice doing both the cooking course and a visit to the cu chi tunnels. Alice is very attentive to our needs. On the cooking side she explains everything from the ingredients and their uses and the principles in Vietnamese cooking. It was a great experience. As for the visit to the cu chi tunnels, it was amazing to learn how the people managed to put up resistance to the American fire power from the ground and the air. It was worth a visit and I would encourage anyone to make it a must visit site.Cu chi tunnels and cooking course

We had a wonderful experience with Alice and Chef Tan. The day started at his farm, where we picked fresh vegetables, learning about the ingredients that make Vietnamese cuisine so special. We then used what we picked to cook four delicious dishes, guided by the Chefβs expertise. The food was fresh and extremely flavorful.
Afterwards, we went to the Cu Chi Tunnels, where Alice shared fascinating stories about the Vietnam War and the tunnelsβ history. It was a perfect mix of hands-on cooking, cultural discovery, and historical learning.

This is a great tour combination, we can definitely recommend. We enjoyed a whole day-trip together with Lani, who picked us up at the hotel, gave us many insights into the countries history, cuisine and culture and taught us a lot about local vegetables and herbs and how to turn them into delicious food. After the cooking class, where we also got to meet Chef Tan, we visited the Cu Chi tunnels together and learned even more about the areaβs history. Lani is a wonderful, energetic, open-minded and knowledgeable person and we enjoyed the day together with her very much!Amazing experience

My friend, husband, and I booked this cooking class and Cu Chi tunnel tour. We were picked up right at our AirBnb and whisked away to the organic farm north of HCM. We did not meet Chef Tan and were instead given the tour/class by another team member. While the class was excellent, it would have been nice to know who we were having the class with ahead of time. We were also not the only ones in the cooking class. There were two other people in the class, one of whom booked through AirBnb and had a slightly different menu than us. Neither a brief explanation, nor introduction was given by the woman who instructed our class regarding any of this. That being said, our chef was wonderful! We went around the farm, learning about and harvesting our ingredients before heading inside to cook. The class moved at a pace that everyone in our class could follow and we would sit down and eat each dish immediately after preparing it. We made one appetizer, two mains, and a dessert. We even learned how to plate the meals. The food was delicious and we were all amazed that we had prepared the meals ourselves. We also felt like these would be easy recipes to try at home.
Once the cooking class was complete, the 3 of us boarded our van and the chef took us to the Cu Chi Tunnels. The other two participants in the cooking class did not attend this part of the tour. While the tour of the tunnels was brief, we found it very interesting and the appropriate length. We saw the traps used during the war, crawled through a tunnel, and ate a snack similar to what the people survived on during the wartime.
Overall we truly enjoyed the entire experience and would go back for a second cooking class if given the opportunity. However, a little more transparency about who is taking the class with us and who the chef will be would have been appreciated. Totally Worth It!

We definitely recommend this tour. The communication and the organization were easy. The cooking experience was great! We learned on their history and techniques while picking our veggies and herbs. The cook was nice and we got to cook the food ourselves (compared to other class where you only watch the cook), which was really good. Finally, we appreciated the private visit of the tunnels (compared to being part of a big group); our guide was passionate and informative about the history of the war.Great cooking experience!
Very well organised. We had booked a 2 people cooking course. The duration of the cooking course including food was about four hours in total 9h including driving and visit of Cu Chi tunnel system. First we were shown the own little garden. Many important types of vegetables or herbs were explained and picked for cooking on site. In the end, of course, was cooking. We made spring rolls with prawns for starter, followed by main dish porc and chicken and banana rice pancace dessert. Susan and her team took great care of us. Of course, everyone had their own cooking station and was allowed to prepare the dishes themselves. A clear recommendation for anyone who wants to learn something about Vietnam cuisine.
Afterwards we visited the Cu Chi Tunnel system. Susan as our guide explained everything very well. Susan did a great job again.
Thank you for such a wonderfull day.Great experience a perfect day

This was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, our guide was No ( Susan ) she was fun and enthusiastic, after being picked up from my hotel in District 1 we went to the organic farm / cookery school where No led us around the extensive growing areas picking fresh produce we would use later in the cooking course, she was very knowledgeable about the ingredients with lots of extra interesting information. We then cooked four courses, prawn crispy rolls, Vietnamese style BBQ beef with a lovely salad, Chicken in a clay pot, then finishing off with some banana fritters, all delicious! ( my advice is not to have a big breakfast ! )
We then went to the tunnels where again No was a font of information, it was fascinating tour of the ingenuity of the Vietcong during the war and really interesting, definitely one of the best experiences I had in Saigon ! Great Experience, highly recommended

We ere two adults and two teenage sons. Our guide that showed up was Hui. Did not matter because our guide was really great. We had booked an agro/coking and Cuci tunnel combo. I first enquired if we could cut the agro/cooking part short and maybe extend tunnel part, but they did not encourage any changes. And we are glad we keep the original itinerary. The agricultural part (picking our own leaves and vegetables including comments in how they were grown) and coking class were not only best part of this tour, but made top two highlights on our four day trip to Saigon. That was the comment by the teenage sons! Food we cooked were delicious, and as good as any other food we had on our trip.
We strongly recommend doing this coking class (in Cuci area) as a combo with the Cuci tunnels. Also, make sure you do cooking first, and tunnels second. At least in peak tourist seasons tunnels are much, much more crowded in the mornings, while number of visitors drop in the afternoon.
Great cooking and tunnel combo

Booked this in last minute and extremely glad I did. Rosie was the host, and I can not rate her highly enough. The driver took us to the farm where the huge, covered out door kitchen area is located. You then get a tour of the farm along with some great local knowledge before picking ingredients to be used whilst cooking. The dishes were simple but soooo delicious. The only down side of the experience was Rosie leaving at the end of the day before I could tip her. Would highly recommend this. Highlight of trip so far

I thought this cooking lesson and guided trip to the tunnels was fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing and would highly recommend it.
The only thing I would mention is that we were not told that we would not be with Tan to do the cooking etc. It would have been better to have the whole process explained to us by our guide before we set off so we weren`t left in the dark as to what was going to happen. Even better would be to let us know before booking the trip who would be our teacher and guide for the day. Thought we were booking Tan for the day, but this was not the case. Didn`t even meet Tan.
But, overall I would highly recommend this trip to anyone. Even my 8 year old daughter did the cooking without chopping off any fingers or burning herself! Great experience!Cooking Lesson and Tunnels

These 2 tours combined were the best experience we had in Saigon. The Cooking Lesson started with arriving in a stunning view of fields, the cows grazing, and ingredients a picking, complete with explanation on each ingredients. The cooking lesson was spot on and we had so much fun. We even got certificates as we conpleted the 4th course of the day. After that, we head to Cu Chi tunnel. It was great timing, because we arrived between the morning tours and afternoon tours of other operators. Adding to its benefit, he assigned someone to take pictures during the tour so we can fully emerged on doing our activities Nothing Surpass this Tour
We had such a fun day with Chef Tan, learning to cook, finding out about Vietnamese farming techniques and a great private tour of the Chu Chi Tunnels. The fact that the tunnel experience is in the afternoon means that we had the place pretty much to ourselves. Firing an AK45 and meeting a Viet Cong soldier were just some of the highlights. The cooking class too was great fun and Chef Tan is passionate about his work and Vietnamese Cuisine. Highly RecommendedA truly memorable day out!

We were picked up from our apartment right on time; we drove about an hour North to start our class. First we collected herbs and vegetables from the well maintained garden. Then the class started...we made prawn spring rolls, papaya salad with pork, stewed chicken, and fried banana spring rolls with whipped coconut. We had a selection of beverages to wash down our creations. Then a few minutes further to the Cu Chi Tunnels. Sure there was a lot of propaganda (be prepared if you're coming from a western country), but the tunnels were interesting and the guide was professional. A quick stop at a rubber tree forest was a great way to finish off the day. The only improvement would be a bigger transport vehicle...if you're stuck in the third row of an SUV with long legs, it is a LONG drive...Fun Class, Great Food!

A cooking class was a must do in ho chi minh for us. There are several options available, this class is about an hour out of the city. You start by picking fresh veggies from the farm and learning all about the herbs and vegetables. My girlfriend is a vegetarian, and they were very accommodating. All the chefs were great, chef tan and team were all really funny, happy and informative. We added on the tunnels which was an eye opening experience. Great time and made new friends.Must do
We had a wonderfull afternoon with a super chef eager to share his love for cooking and his thoughts on life and well everything. Very nice to see the countryside and pick the herbs and vegetables from the garden and cook in the shade. A great meal is awaiting you.
Afterwards we went to the tunnels and got yet an other view of the vietnamese soul and the true costs of war. Two very different things but still a very nice combo. The stand up chef and the dark tunnels

Had a great time! The tour begins from picking you up from your hotel with a nice air conditioned car, then they take you to Chef Tan's eco farm and show you around the farm while you pick fresh herbs, vegetables and mushrooms right from the garden. After, you get to cook a 4 meal course with either chef Tan himself or one of his assistant. They teach you the essential spices and techniques of Vietnamese cuisine, very useful!
After you enjoy the meals you've cooked the. They will take you to explore the Cu Chi Tunnel. I especially enjoyed as it is a private tour, so yes you are paying more but you really get the one on one attention and you can avoid all the other tour groups. This combo tour is truly the best of both worlds! We were lucky to book a last min spot when normally this tour requires booking several months in advance. Day started off getting picked up at our place which made logistics a breeze. We left the hustle and bustle of HCMC to a farm. So peaceful out there and quite an impressive operation. We picked our herbs for our food we were going to be prepping, learning about each of the plants and how farming is done on this particular piece of land. Then, we started our cooking class with our chef. Chef Tan has a great sense of humor and is a fantastic educator. What makes his lessons memorable is not only that he teaches the details of the recipes but also some of the overall concepts and foundations of Vietnamese cooking. After our tasty meals we headed over to Cu Chi Tunnels. We also enjoyed this tour. Didn't feel rushed and had plenty of time to see the exhibits and learn about the tunnels. Chee and Hsuin (our guides for the whole day) taught us many new things while making us feel welcome and excited to learn. Highly recommend! Great value and experience!!!
