We were delighted to spend time walking around with Daniele. He was kind enough to meet us in our hotel which was a bit away from the usual areas. We went into churches that we would definitely have missed without him. We also caught the changing of the guard at the presidential palace and had a nice beer and a chat in a rooftop bar. As we wandered & chatted through Monti (the Suburra in Ancient Rome), Paola pointed out interesting sites, streetscapes off the tourist tracks, as well as highlighting Rome’s ancient, medieval, renaissance & modern history. As it’s a jubilee year, we visited Santa Maria Maggiore’s holy door & then to Regoli’s pasticceria to sample the seasonal (& delicious ) beignet di San Giuseppe. We did a private 3 hour historical Rome walking tour with Francesca. She is extremely friendly, chatty and knowledgeable about the history of Rome, the art and the buildings. We asked her a lot of questions tangential to what she was showing us and she thoughtfully answered them all. Even occasionally mentioning she wasn’t 100% positive on an answer which gave us confidence that everything else she was telling us was true to the best of her knowledge. We loved how she related the history of the areas we were seeing to ancient and more modern times and gave it all context for us non-Italians. She showed us a combination of buildings/architecture, artwork and public spaces that we wouldn’t have necessarily seen otherwise. She even showed us her favorite Roman coffee shop and explained what was different about the way they brew their coffee (in the Naples tradition) that makes it extra special and tasty. We’d highly recommend her and would love to do another tour with her the next time we’re in Rome.Made our last day great!
