For 3 Jewish women, this was a highlight of our trip to Venice. Lucia told the story of the ghettos and ghetto experience so personally, complete with family photos. It is necessary to tell our story, but Lucia's tour will be meaningful to non-Jewish visitors too. The experience is a first-hand view through the eyes of a Venice local. Lucia was great telling us about the history of the Jewish ghetto and the synagogues . We got to tour 2 synagogues as well as go to an amazing artist's shop. We could tell as she took us around the area how knowledgeable she was and how passionate and proud she was of this small but historic neighborhood. We have just returned from our latest visit to our favourite city of Venice. As part of this we booked a trip with Lucia in order to explore and understand the origin and history of the Ghetto area. Our two hours with her flew by and she was able to give a much greater grasp of how and why the area was established and how it developed over the centuries. She was knowledgeable, passionate, engaging and charming and we thoroughly enjoyed meeting her and adding to our knowledge of Venice. She also gave us an insider tip to locate a ‘secret’ garden in Canareggio from which we were able to get a stunning view out over the lagoon on a crisp bright December day. As part of our conversation we were able to let Lucia know that one of the heroes of the Unification of Italy has a biscuit named after him in the UK…….we shall be sending some to her shortly! Hi, this is not the first tour of the Getto with Lucia, done the same thing 2 years ago but this time with Granddaughters and I wanted them to learn as well as seethe place. They were both enthralled and as last time she has the ability to make it 3D. Along with our teenage daughters, we greatly enjoyed our tour of the Jewish Ghetto with Lucia. Lucia did a wonderful job of explaining the long history and culture of the area and it’s role in Venice and weaving it all into more recent times. The most important characteristics in my opinion in a guide are not knowledge of their subject (which they already just have obviously) but passion and warmth. Firstly, Lucia is so friendly and enthusiastic. Made us feel immediately welcome, at ease and excited about our tour. Her knowledge of the area was incredible. She introduced us to local business owners who are such talented artists. Her telling of the history of the Jewish Ghetto made us "feel" the history. She had prepared pictures to help explain topics. Lucia was the most informed, interesting, and sweetest tour guide we have ever had! She truly made us feel like a local. She clearly has a serious passion about history and sharing the history of her city with others. She has an incredible background working in the US, France, and Italy, and therefore she is able to share informative context while on the tour. Our tour, the Canareggio and Jewish Ghetto tour, was fantastic. While on the tour she was able to tell us about the history as well as the modern culture of the former ghetto. We had a wonderful private tour of the Jewish Ghetto with Lucia. Lucia was kind, positive and fun to spend the morning with. We were traveling with 2 small kids (7 + 3) and she came prepared with a scavenger hunt, bubbles, markers, and even little gifts for the kids at the end of the tour. The little one was very cranky and Lucia just rolled with it and stayed positive the whole time. I learned so much and appreciated the way she made the information digestible for the kids. First of all, Lucia is the most adorable and loveable young woman. She is kind and considerate and she thought of everything. She planned out our time together perfectly and included everything that we had asked for. Lucia was organized but at the same time, took our needs into consideration at all times. We were never rushed and we had the chance to see and experience everything at our oace. She brought us to the nicest places in Venice with a particular shout out to the best mask shop where we had the most fun selecting masks for Carnevale and also for decoration for our home. We stopped along the way for a delicious bite and a prosecco and I feel that we covered so much and really saw the highlights and the hidden gems. She expertly guided us in and around and always kept us engaged with interesting stories and anecdotes. We learned so much about Venice and were able to see and to experience everything that we had planned to see. At the end of the tour, I was sad to say goodbye. Lucia is a very knowledge tour guide, with a great knowledge of Venice's Jewish Ghetto. She met us near our hotel in during the time period of the worst floods in 50 years. She smiled the whole time, as we slushed through the rising waters -- never missing a beat as she continued to tell us about the history of the jews in Venice even as the rain picked up to a gushing downpour. After researching tours of the Venice Jewish Ghetto, we settled on using Lucia as our tour guide for a group of 10 (although 3 missed a connection so we ended up with 7 guests). I could not be happier with the tour Lucia provided! She was extremely knowledgeable about everything related to the Jewish Ghetto (and I imagine about Venice generally). Her enthusiasm for the subject matter was obvious, and I think all of us felt that she was one of the best tour guides we have had on our various travels. She was also extraordinarily helpful in several ways. First, for some reason the confirmation voucher from WithLocals showed the wrong meeting spot on a map (even though the description in words was correct). She took great pains to make sure we all understood where the correct meeting place was. Second, when 3 of our group had to cancel due to a missed flight connection, she was very helpful in working out an arrangement for us that preserved the agreed on price for the 7 remaining guests, while doing what she could to facilitate a travel insurance claim by the missing guests. If we were to return to Venice, I would find any other tour offered with Lucia as the guide and sign up for it, just to tour with her again. Lucia is a fantastic and an incredibly passionate and knowledgeable guide. We were a group of 15, 7 adults and 8 children, most of whom had a short attention span. Lucia was able to engage everyone on the 2.5 hour tour. She patiently answered all our questions about the Jewish Ghetto and many others about Venice. For anyone interested in the historical Jewish Ghettos and the Canneregio area of Venice generally - you are in for a wonderful tour with Lucia. Lucia was a godsend and enhanced our trip to Venice no end. It was an informative and enthralling relaxed tour of the Ghetto. The history hidden in the corners, on the pavements and behind doors was fascinating, uplifting and also tragic. We had a great time with Lucia in the Scuola Grande San Rocco. She’s great company and hugely knowledgable. Despite having read up quite a lot before hand, we learnt lots of new things. She’s very good at interpreting the paintings as well as telling you about the history. Our sense was that she was particularly good at being able to adapt what she says to the existing knowledge of her audience, which we found really helpful.
