India's Golden Triangle: Delhi, Agra & Jaipur in New Delhi - ae03ff7d9922b53eff50bf545124e2c3

The Golden Triangle - comprising the cities of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur - is the most popular circuit in India. It provides perfect opportunity to see the best of India, in a short period of less than a week!

The metropolis Delhi, consisting of both New Delhi and Old Delhi, is a fascinating place with spectacular historical buildings, colorful and vibrant bazaars (including the biggest spice market of Asia!). Agra, once the capital of the mighty Mughal Empire, is home to the Taj Mahal - the most famous building of India. While Jaipur, known popularly as the 'pink city of India', was the centre of the Hindu Royal Family of Jaipur, and the descendants of the Maharaja still live here.

Highlights:

* See the iconic Taj Mahal, the most beautiful building in India

* Visit the hill-top fortress of Amer

* Experience the aroma of spices at the largest spice market of Asia

* Pay visit to the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation

* Photograph the intriguing facade of Hawa Mahal

My areas of specialisation includes the capital city of Delhi (my home since 2015), the city of the Taj Mahal - Agra (where I was born and brought up), the pink city of Jaipur (Amer Fort is my favorite fort-palace!), and Varanasi (one of the oldest cities in the world!)

This is the plan

Check out the plan below to see what you'll get up to with your local host. Feel free to personalize this offer with Madhavendra.

  1. Meeting point

You will be picked up anywhere in New Delhi. Your local host will contact you regarding the exact pickup point.

  2. Itinerary

This is what our experience could look like, but it’s not set in stone! Once you book, you can chat directly with your host to make small tweaks to suit your preferences.

  3. Day 1:

Namaste, welcome to India! Meet and greet at the airport in Delhi, transfer to your hotel. Later, enjoy an afternoon full of activities in Old Delhi, the most colourful and chaotic part of the city. Here, you will visit India's largest mosque Jama Masjid (25000 people can pray here at a single time!). Next, explore colourful bazaars where narrow streets are filled with wedding paraphernalia, continue onto Khari Baoli, Asia’s biggest spice market! Later, head to “Raj Ghat”, the cremation site of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation.
  4. Day 2:

Post breakfast, proceed for a full day city tour of New Delhi. Kick-start your visit with the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Humayun's Tomb, which inspired the construction of the Taj Mahal. Visit the Gurudwara Bangla Sahib Temple and its massive kitchen. In New Delhi, get a taste of India’s colonial heritage on a drive past the iconic India Gate, Parliament House and President's Palace. Finally, visit the 12th century tower Qutub Minar which marks the onset of the Islamic rule in India. If time permits, visit the Bahai Lotus Temple.
  5. Day 3:

Post breakfast, drive to Agra – home to the legendary Taj Mahal. This three-hour journey, in the comfort of your private chauffeured air-conditioned car, is a great opportunity to discuss intriguing aspects of India's age-old culture – including the confusing caste system, rural life, and arranged marriages. Upon arrival in Agra, check-in into your hotel. Later, head to the amazing Agra Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its white marble palaces served as residence for the royal family (and as prison for the king who built the Taj Mahal!). If time permits, visit the Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daula, known popularly as the Baby Taj for its intricate inlay work. End your day with a visit to the Taj Mahal over sunset, from across the river.
  6. Day 4:

Enjoy an unforgettable sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal, the ultimate monument to love! Sunrise is the best time to appreciate its heavenly when the Taj is simmered in soft rays of the rising sun. Return to your hotel for breakfast and relaxation. Embark on your drive to Jaipur – known popularly as the ‘pink city’. This 6-hour journey (with a couple of stops) is a perfect opportunity to talk about arranged marriages, holy cow, the great Mughal kings and anything that you wish to discuss! En route, visit the 11th century stepwell Chand Baoli.
  7. Day 5:

Kick-start your day with a visit to the magnificent Amer Fort, situated on a hill; it is a classic fort-palace. Later, head to the pink city area which includes City Palace Museum with a rich collection of textiles of the royalty, and the UNESCO enlisted observatory Jantar- Mantar, housing the biggest sundial in the world! We take a photo stop at the Hawa Mahal, the iconic structure of Jaipur and Jal Mahal, another landmark of the city situated inside a lake.
  8. Day 6:

Transfer to the airport in Delhi for your onward flight or you can choose to fly out of Jaipur.

It was easy to chat with Mona (Madhavendra) and we were very much looking forward to meeting him and our tour. Unfortunately we were hit with Delhi belly the night before our tour and had to cancel. Certainly his communication skills are great and I have no doubt we would have enjoyed the tour.Great Communication!

Visiting a place as exotic as India for the first time (and as a senior citizen) can be daunting. I took my time in choosing a guide. My sister has some mobility issues and I was concerned for her safety and comfort. I also wanted a guide I could converse and enjoy while driving long distances and feeling safe. I chose wisely. Mona (as he likes to be called)is a 25 year old university graduate who speaks 6 languages. His conversations of the things we were passing, were not academic. They were masterful 'story telling'. This is a young man born in India with an intense pride in his country who very much wanted US to see his country through HIS eyes. He is quickly building an impressive list of clients, and rightfully so. Mona was very aware of my sisters limitations and, along with our amazing driver Kamel, made her trip effortless with their care and concern. Mona has an wonderful sense of humor (something important to me when I travel) and an ability to know when were were getting tired and needed to redirect. Mona made it clear that the itinerary we were following, was only as good as the moment we were in, and was quick to make any adjustments for our comfort. Mona became 'family'. I highly recommend, after booking him, that you show him your possible hotel choices and let him help guide you to a hotel that meets your needs, in this very large county. Mona also appreciated my being a 'foodie' and took us to marvelous places experiencing the foods of the area. There were no bounds on his a ability to make us comfortable. India is a place of textures and great history and lushness, greatly enhanced by Mona's knowledge and personal care. Don't miss this opportunity. Thank you Mona!(please thank Kamel as well, he was a great part of our experience. Don't Miss This Opportunity
