What you can expect

Livorno Highlights in Livorno - e849c8fdeeab2aaef214e67cdb7893a3

What is Livorno? Many people know Livorno as the Tuscany Coast harbor, where their cruise boat stops so they can visit Florence, Pisa or Lucca, but if you decide to stay here for the day, you can discover this little jewel, born as an open city to other religions and foreign cultures thanks to the Medici family.

It is impressive how th the Jewish, the Greek. the English ways of life and cultures (just to name some of the communities that still live in the city) could have worked out together and you can see these contributions still nowasays.

Pick me as your local guide and during my private tour, you will be surprised by Livorno's history, architecture, flavors, food traditions, and colors.

We will meet at the shuttle bus dropping point in Piazza del Municipio (when you arrive at the harbor there is a shuttle bus taking you there) and we will walk around the city downtown with its highlights, (some of them only from the outside), having a good Italian coffee or breakfast and a surprise little food tasting (it depends on the day you will take your visit).

We will see the historical district of "La Venezia", where this city was born with its channels, the "Quattro Mori" statue, symbol of the city. . . And we will end our tour at the local "Mercato Centrale", our local food market, a relaxed way to enjoy the city.

This tour is not available on Sundays because the local Food Market is closed.

As this is an independent day trip you will need to organize transportation yourself. Don’t worry, it is really easy to do!

From Livorno cruise ships' port: there is a shuttle bus service, which drops off and picks up in Via Cogorano, alongside Piazza del Municipio.

From Florence: just book your tickets from Florence Santa Maria Novella to Livorno here: https://www.trenitalia.com/en.html

Our tour of Livorno highlights with Francesca was absolutely wonderful. Francesca was welcoming from the outset and gave us a wonderful tour of her city. She made adjustments to our mobility needs easily and without fuss. She took us on a chronological history tour sharing interesting facts and sites going back through the ages. There was a wonderful balance of historical facts and anecdotes, all told with an infectious enthusiasm that drew you in wanting to know more. We finished our tour at the market where Francesca assisted us in finding a local eatery for lunch ensuring we were helped by the wait staff by speaking with them on our behalf (note to self - learn some Italian)! Well worth it

More about me

Ciao! Hello, welcome in Italy, my name is Francesca and I work as a licensed tour guide in Tuscany, working expecially in Livorno and Lucca. Tuscany is an incredible place for its art, its history, its food and wine...which is nowadays part of our daily life so when you walk in these streets you have this sensation to step back in time. When I do a tour I always try to see these places throught the people’s eyes and to discover something new. This is the great lesson I learnt when I lived my exchange student experience with AFS in Australia. And having a great passion for photography I do love to show hidden details and to talk about local traditions. So enjoy Tuscany!

Authorised Guide according to the Italian Ministry of Tourism national list.
