We had a wonderful time with Elise and her mom. We started in the supermarket where Elise explained so many local items and helped us pick out some spices to take home. We then went to their home where Elise translated while her mom cooked and we learned every step of three amazing traditional recipes. Everything was SO delicious and we had a great time chatting with Elise over the tasty food. She even ended the meal with some fresh fruits for us. Lovely way to spend an afternoon! We spent a great day with Elise in Saigon. We started our tour with a visit to a local grocery store where she explained all of the items there that were unique to Vietnam and identified several things that she felt we should bring home to the US. Following our trip to the store, Elise took us to her modest apartment where she and her mother cooked us an amazing meal while sharing with us the details of the recipes so that we can prepare the dishes back home. It was essentially an informal cooking class where we not only learned how to cook some delicious Vietnam dishes, but we also learned about Elise and her mom's life in Saigon. Though our trip is only halfway over, we can say this cooking lesson was the highlight of our vacation. We knew the concept was going to be unique and exciting. However, when we met Elise and her mom, they blew our expectations out of the water. The tour started with an introduction to Vietnamese food while shopping at a local grocery store. We learned the difference between northern and southern tastes and were introduced to new spices, produce, treats, and grains we had never heard of, all while shopping for food like a local. Then we went to Elise and her mom's home; we were welcomed like old friends. It was educational, delicious, and filled with laughter the entire time. We hung out in the kitchen, making Vietnamese cakes and learning the intricate process. (Though they made it look as simple as walking). Finally, we ate dinner, which was the best of our trip! Much like eating at my mom's house: she loaded our plates with food, even though we couldn't stuff anything else in our faces. Haha. We left so FULL! Our family of 5 (kids 13/12/7) had a great few hours with Elise and her mother. We were shown a Vietnamese supermarket and learnt about all the different snacks etc that Vietnamese kids like, and then went back to Elise’s home. Great cooking class and introduction to Vietnamese cuisine and food with Elise and her mum. We started off with a tour at the local supermarket where we got an introduction to Vietnamese food and tips about what we should try. Furthermore, we learnt recipes for summer rolls with peanut sauce, sweet and sour soup, and chicken with lemongrass. They were welcoming and we had a great time. As first time visitors to Vietnam, our experience with Elise was the perfect way to begin our holiday. Elise is such a warm person. She is well-travelled, speaks impeccable English and is a font of interesting information about eating, living and travelling in Vietnam. She and her mother made for lovely hosts. She arranged a cooking lesson for us that was sensitive to my wife's gluten and dairy free diet. The lunch was authentic southern (Mekong Delta) cuisine, and was absolutely delicious. Elise also followed up with us to provide lots of great information about where to eat in HCMC. I've travelled a lot, and this was one of my favourite experiences. I wouldn't call it so much of a cooking class, as it is Elise's mother who does all of the cooking. Very little do you get your hands into it. We started with a tour in a local supermarket, where Elise told alot about the different vegetables, fruits, rice's etc. That was a fine introduction. Next we were off to her and her mother's home for the cooking. Elise do all the talking and her mother all the cooking. The biggest disappointment was though, that Elise was very inattentive and on her phone alot of the time. There were multiple times where she didn't hear our questions, to the point where we just stopped asking. It kinda made us feel unwanted there. So for that price, I would've rather found a real cooking class.Not really a cooking class

What a great way to spend half a day in Ho Chi Minh City! Elise was full of useful information about the foods of Vietnam, especially her native Mekong Delta region. And I can’t say enough about her Mom, a more charming and gracious hostess you will not meet in HMC. Elise was very helpful in assisting us on how to get from where our cruise ship was docked to our meeting point in the city. She was also extremely accommodating about adjusting the menu to allow for my wife’s crustacean allergy. When her bio says she is fluent in English she is not kidding. I can assure you that nothing was lost in translation in our conversations. However, for my wife and me, the highlight of the evening (aside from the food, which was excellent) was our discussion about life in Vietnam today. Thanks to Elise and her mum, my daughters (10 & 13) and I had a great evening of what felt like an authentic Vietnamese cooking experience. Starting in the local supermarket, Elise gave us a very knowledgeable tour of the various local produce. We learnt lots despite having lived in Vietnam for a year already. We then moved to her cosy family home where we all watched in awe as her mother expertly prepared the meal. My daughters enjoyed helping to prepare the meal. Mein Freund und Ich hatten einen super Kochkurs bei Elise. Vor allem weil wir nur zu zweit waren und uns unser Wunschgericht vorher aussuchen durften, war es wirklich cool :) Wir haben uns mit Elise bei einem Supermarkt getroffen (liegt etwas außerhalb, aber mit Grab easy zu erreichen). Nachdem sie uns im Supermarkt einiges über die lokalen Einkaufs- & Essgewohnheiten erklärt hat und wir noch viele neue Früchte kennengelernt haben, sind wir zu ihr nach Hause gegangen (leider haben wir die Zutaten für unser Essen nicht selbst eingekauft). Zuhause hat bereits ihre Mutter mit frischen Getränken und zwei Vietnamesischen Reisküchlein gewartet :) Dann haben wir angefangen zusammen die Zutaten für die vietnamesischen Pfannkuchen vorzubereiten. Wir haben zwar mitgeholfen, aber den Großteil hat Elises Mutter gemacht und wir haben zugesehen und versucht uns ihre Erklärungen zu merken, um es Zuhause nachzukochen. Das essen war super lecker und der Abend mit den zweien hat wirklich super Spaß gemacht! ...eine wohl viel intensivere Erfahrung als ein Kochkurs in einer Schule mit 10 weiteren Leuten ;) Authentischer Kochkurs

The cooking class with Elise and her mother was an awesome experience. Both are super nice people and wie really enjoyed our time together. We met at a local supermarket, where Elise showed us a whole branch of local sweets, fruits, meats and other products and recommended some of them to bring home with us. I would like to remark that one should not see it as a negative point, that we did not meet at a local market, as - Elise explained this to us and I after seeing and smelling some markets I can confirm - the food there is sometimes of questionable quality. After that we went to Elise`s home and cooked three recipes. It ist possible to select them but we let Elise choose, as we did not really have a clue which to choose. Elise`s selection was very good as all of them were quite easy to cook and above all contained ingredients which were accesible in Germany. While preparing and cooking Elise told us much and answered many questions about Vietnamese culture, food and society, as there was a funeral going on in the neighbourhood which we could hear from the kitchen. In summary I can recommed this cooking class! Go there and have the same awesome experience we had!Super Nice Cooking Class!

Wow, what a fantastic cultural and eating experience! Elisa met our group at the market and spent time showing us different foods used in traditional Vietnamese cuisine. After a short walk to her house, we were welcomed by her mom and served chilled drinks. We were invited to help prepare some of the foods used in the meal. Elise was a superb host; she was incredibly friendly and patient and did a wonderful job explaining the entire cooking process as her mom prepared the meal. The food was delicious!! I cannot say enough good things about this experience. Our group was highly satisfied and I would recommend Elise and the cooking lesson to anyone interested in learning about traditional Vietnamese culture. Elise was great- even though our taxi driver took us to the wrong meeting place, she waited for us ( we were 30 mins late!). The cooking was informative by her mum, with Elise explaining everything. And all was special because it was in their house. Far too much food for us to eat, and we wished we had taken containers- to bring home as was so delicious. Elise did not stop there- we had booked a show at Saigon Opera House, and she said to text and she would organise a grab taxi for us. As it happened we found one straight away, but this is a small example of how much out of her way Elise goes to accommodate. Gladly recommended Cooking traditional food with Elise

Elise and her Mum were a treat to be with. They taught us how to make some delicious food- lemon grass chicken, sweet and sour soup with prawns and an eggplant dish. We are not very fond of eggplant 🍆, but to our surprise this was an outstanding dish and was the dish of the day. We loved the food and their company. After the class we found it extremely difficult to get a cab ( due to the football match) and Elise went out of her way to get us a cab to return to our hotel. Her concern really touched us and both she and her mother were marvelous hosts. We would love to do a repeat class with her and we highly recommend her cooking class.Delicious Food

We started at the local super market where Elise told me a lot about the different ingridienses, used in the vietnamese kitchen. Then we walked home to her appartment, and started cooking with her mom. All the way, Elise made sure that I new what was going on. Elise works as an english teacher in Ho Chi Minh City, and speaks therefore a very good english. When the dish was finished, we ate, while we talked about vietnamese culture among many things. We had an absolutely brilliant time with Elise (Fon) and her mom. Not only did we go shopping locally for some ingredients, we were also given a very thorough introduction to what the locals eat. Afterwards we were taught to cook several dishes in Fon and her mum’s home. We were mad extremely welcome and it was a fantastic experience. I would recommend this to anyone. Great experience
