We had a great afternoon with Gilbert. He arrived at the allotted time and place. We walked from the Old Town Hall towards District 6, dropping in on a cultural centre ( very interesting) on the way. Gilbert gave us excellent historical context to buildings and street art. He is a font of knowledge and answered all our questions. It became very clear that the sad history of District 6 clearance is very close to his heart as his own parents and grandparents used to live here. From District 6 we took an über to the areas of Woodstock and Saltriver where gentrification is setting in which became the topic. We would have never dared to visit these areas without Gilbert… and that would have been our great loss. Such interesting buildings and friendly people everywhere. Bulelani explained many things related to the history of Capetown as well as the people living here. It was really interesting, lively telling based on owned experience. Bulelani answered every question, is extremely knowledgable. If you are interested in the history of country, we absolutely can recommend Bulelani as a guide. We spent quite some time in the 6th district museum - very good !! - as it was raining. Walking through Woodstock was interesting as well, but not the wow experience as expected. Really nice guide

We had a very knowledgeable guide for our tour who gave us many tips for exploring the city. However, the first guide canceled and we were assigned a different guide who was not the guide who showed up. We did not visit Woodstock and only visited the District Six Museum and the castle due the the guide's safety concerns. What is not listed is that you need to pay for all entrance fees. So, in the end this was not a tour of the Woodstock neighborhood, which was why we booked the tour. We had a great tour of the District Six Museum. Nice guide but tour not as advertised

Wir hatten einen absolut großartigen Tag und haben großartige Aufnahmen der street Art machen dürfen. Es gab hier und da sogar einen Blick hinter die Kulissen, wo wir als normale Touristen so nicht reingekommen wären. Die Tour mit Gilbert ist wirklich zu empfehlen! Wir haben sehr viel über Kapstadt, die Geschichte der Apartheid und Südafrika allgemein gelernt. Die Tour führt u.a. durch District Six und Salt River und man sieht viele schöne Ecken (z.B. Streetart) die man sonst nicht finden würde. Abgerundet wurde das ganze mit Pausen in einem Cafe und einer Brauerei. Am Ende haben wir noch eine Familie in Salt River besucht das war auch sehr interessant & sehr authentisch!100% Empfehlung

My family and I recently traveled to Cape Town and we pre-booked a tour of the Woodstock community with Gilbert. We chose a tour with Gilbert because based on his intro video, he seemed well rounded and well informed about Cape Town's history and current events. I'm so glad that we booked with Gilbert; our tour with him did not disappoint! We met up with him at The Old Biscuit Mill where he gave us some time to do some shopping before starting our tour. He proceeded to take us to various points of interest around Woodstock while explaining the history of the community as well as providing insight into the effects of the community's gentrification. We enjoyed learning more about local life and having a knowledgable local who could answer our questions about what life is really like for most South Africans beyond the lens of tourism. My family is a generationally mixed group, but Gilbert was patient when we had to make stops to attend to the young kids in our group. A great tour with Gilbert through District 6 and Woodstock. We saw lots of street art and old photos of what the community of District 6 was like before forced relocation. Then we made our way to Woodstock where we wandered through the streets of the community and saw more street art and had a snack from a local vendor. Overall a very enjoyable experience. We were able to make a booking for a tour on the same day, which was confirmed by the guide (Patrick), when it was time the guide didn’t show up at the meeting point and left us wondering. Later we found out he had a private event and could not do our tour at the agreed time. Unfortunately the tour was confirmed and paid for and our money is gone! Tried to contact Patrick, send him 4 messages, but he is ghosting us, no response at all. Very disappointing!Guide didn’t show up! No money back
