Richard was my guide last night on a night walk in Pasir Ris Park. He knows the park like the back of his hand. And he knows a lot about the animals and insects you can find there. Richards was very helpful. There were an abundance of different insects, spiders and millipedes. We also found crabs, snails, reptiles and amphibians. Richard is a very understanding and knowledgeable guide. Our original scheduled date was unfortunately met with a thunderstorm. As we are a family including young kids (2 and 4 years old) and elderly couple, Richard was understanding enough to reschedule it! Great walk through the Pasir Ris reserve. Saw migratory birds, otters, (including a video 2 young boys we met up with had taken moments earlier), butterflies, a community garden ....Richard loves his local community and landscape and was his enthusiasm shone through. I lived in Singapore as a child and wanted to revisit Pasir Ris as I had so many happy memories there. Though now almost unrecognisable some 50 years later, Richard took us round the resort and shared his vast knowledge of the area including the plants and the wildlife. This special trip shows a different perspective of singapore. Not a famous attraction, but hop into a lush greenery of the last rural village (kampong), visit Taoist shrine, and has a local meal at a nearby hawker centre. You will feel like a local rather than a traveller. Our guide (Mr Richard) was very nice, cheerful, kind and knowledgable. He provided us many interesting information about Singapore history, Singaporeans and their daily life in the past and present. He also a keen plantsman and nature lover. We wanted to get out the tourist areas and so found this great tour with Richard "Off the Beaten Track". Richard is very knowledgeable and passionate about Singapore. He took us through Kampong Lorong Buangkok which is the last kampong located in Singapore, it was just incredible. He shared lots of valuable information with us through out the 3hr tour. We walked and we also took the bus as well. At the end of the tour he took us to a Hawkers food market which we shared some Roti Prata and fish curry sauce which was truly delicious, actually the best I have ever tasted. Going to Kampong on your own you will miss so much about the history, so well worth going on this fabulous tour.Fantastic experience

We enjoyed a great 5 hours + tour with Richard. He was friendly and engaging, making sure that he covered all that we were interested in. He was kind enough to meet us at our hotel rather than us having to deal with the MRT as first time visitors. We only had a short time in Singapore and this gave us the chance to learn about the history and way of life. Great trip with Richard in Pasir Ris Park in Singapore. Lots of birds and other local wildlife. Richard is a great guy to spend time with, lots of local knowledge and insights about the local flora and fauna but also plenty of interesting narrative about growing up in the area as a young boy, which brings it all to life. He's also a very knowledgeable photographer, willing to guide a hobby photographer like me on settings and composition. I highly recommend a morning stroll with Richard in Singapore.

My husband and I came to Singapore for the first time from Canada! Our tour guide was switched from our original booking the day before to Richard. Maybe we got lucky! Richard met us on time and was a wonderful source of information. He walked with us for 4 hours and gave us a great understanding of the struggles and triumphs of Singapore! He was born and raised here and his pride for his country was overflowing!! We tried Kaya Toast and coffee, ice cream sandwiches and he arranged for us to have chicken and rice in Chinatown. He taught us how to use the efficient transportation system and we were brave enough to go to Chinatown alone for dinner and find more affordable breakfast options for the remainder of our trip! We only had one full day. Richard was excellent in giving us what we asked for. We like history and he knew his history. We got a very good over view from a local perspective in 5 hours. The only reason I would say it wasn’t perfect was that little India was disappointing. I would rather of been told to spend my time going elsewhere. But we included it on our list so that is not on him. 5 hours was not enough. I wish we had done more. Richard was a real person and great to speak with. We really liked him. Quick Singapore

My husband and I spent several hours with Richard exploring and photographing the wildlife in the Pasir Ris Nature Park. He met us at the RMT station and took us into the park, all the while looking for birds to photograph. He was very good at pointing out the wildlife, and asked several of the locals what was to be seen in the area. He also provided helpful camera tips. As well as being good at spotting the wildlife, Richard was very entertaining, and made sure that we were comfortable at all times. He also took some shots of us as a momento of our experience. At the end of our tour Richard escorted us back to the station on the bus and pointed out a good food centre for a local lunch if we wished. We would highly recommend going on a tour with Richard if you are interested in photographing nature, and seeing a part of Singapore that not many tourists visit.Great Nature Photo Tour

I would recommend this experience to anyone that is interested in wildlife photography. My 12 years old daughter and I have done multiple bird tours in the past in different countries, and Uncle Richard is the best. As grandfather himself, Uncle Richard is very good with children. Richard was a very attentive, enthusiastic and very knowledgeable host with a true passion to preserve his heritage. We were taken back in time to a simpler way of life, living off the land in simple homes following a trail through the local community. We were introduced to several species of plants and fruits, which we tasted with Richard’s guidance and knowledge. During our tour we came across many birds, insects and even saw Turtles in the local river. Our journey ended in a modern community, where Richard explained the interaction on all levels of how people live today. We finished our journey with a very tasty local meal. Needless to say this was a fantastic experience off the beaten track not to be missed. An experience to remember.

Richard turned out to be the perfect guide for our visit to Pasir Ris park in Singapore. He was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, flexible, personable and skilled. He was able to locate hard-to-see creatures in the mangrove and point them out for photos. He has good understanding of photography and was able to find good angles and light to optimize chance for good photos. He also has a good knowledge of natural history, making this more than just a photo shoot. Our 4-hour tour flew by despite the heat and humidity. We had a great time with Richard. He took us to the Hougang neighborhood and we saw Singapore's rustic older houses, as well as some of Singapore's modern apartment complexes and parks and the nearby streets. We walked down "pet Street" which has a variety of different pet stores for different animals. During the tour Richard showed us a variety of plants and fruits that grow in Singapore and he knows so much about them. We ate a delicious lunch at a hawker station. Richard is very knowledgeable about Singapore's history and people. We're learned so much about Singapore while talking with him. Richard is an extraordinary guide and did an outstanding job. I got to see places where I never would have gone to without him. In between, he told me a lot of interesting facts and adopted the tour to my wishes. He showed me many interesting details which offered me plenty of opportunities to take photos far away from the usual spectrum. Furthermore, we learnt that we both are enthusiastic photographers and enjoy cycling. So, at the end of the tour, we were just sitting together in a food stall and chatting about cameras and settings for more than an hour, just like friends knowing each other for years. Richard was amazing. He absolutely customized every part of the tour for me. He knew I wanted nature, so we went to the Singapore botanical gardens and he was able to identify so many plants! He brought fruit I had never tried for a snack which was so thoughtful. We took our time through the orchid garden which was just an unforgettable experience. Our time with Richard was the highlight of our final morning in Singapore. We visited four ecosystems in a wonderful park including an edible garden and learned about the history, people-centered policies, and the natural world, as well as Richard's experiences as a local. He knew how and where to spot birds and water life, and delighted my husband with opportunities to capture photos of a wide variety of birds, plants, flowers, butterflies, and even a snake. Was looking for a break at the end of a business trip to Singapore in May 2023. Online exploring got me to the withlocals website and to Richard Koh. For a 4-hr session we zeroed in on the Pasir Ris area. Richard was there on the dot at 9am and was full of enthusiasm and information on the birds around. The choice was excellent as it covered varied habitats.. small river, dense mangrove tidal areas, a kitchen garden, a beach and lush wide-canopied green areas… the sightings were equally varied - from the common Javan Mynas to parakeets, Collared Kingfishers etc… however the star sighting was of a Spotted Wood Owl pair and a nesting Crested Godhawk (the well-grown chick as well as an adult)…besides his in-depth knowledge of birds Richard was equally knowledgeable about the fauna and reptiles and other creatures (crabs, mudskippers)…got my venomous snake pic - the Mangrove Pit Viper!!! Overall it was an excellent introduction to birding in Singapore. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend Richard as a guide for such an outing… looking forward to the next opportunity!!!A first class Birding Experience!!!

Richard was very knowledgeable, funny, and very nice. He knew his history of the country and of the monuments around. Took great pictures of my group, and took us to a great coffee place and sold us on the Kaya jam, which we bought, unfortunately it was not wrapped in tsa sealed bag so it was taken from us by security. He did tour us where we wanted to see , but did not make it to the double helix or gardens by the bay trees for the lightshow because of the pouring rain(not his fault). What a fantastic experience! Richard is a wonderful story teller and so knowledgeable. After a short, interesting bus trip, we were shown around an area that has so much history and wildlife. We have enjoyed this tour now for the second time within 2 years - in 2020 and now again in 2022. Both times we had a great time with Richard and enjoyed his infectious enthusiam and the obvious joy he has while showing you around his neighbourhood. He is very knowledgeable and creates a very relaxed and familial atmosphere. We can only recommend the tour and Richard as the perfect guide for it. We would not have taken our friends on this tour and did the same tour again, if we would not be convinced that it is worth doing it.Richard the 2nd
