It said meet at Time Out Market, then taste food, then hear Fado. It seemed like we would eat in Time Out market but all we did was meet there and have a shot. Then we walked ALL UPHILL to get to Fado restaurant. And then, It was as if he expected us to buy him dinner. The description didn't say walk uphill and go to Fado restaurant. Terrible, terrible tour. This is a rip off- not as described

Hugo ist ein Türöffner. Zu der kleinen Tasca, hinter deren unscheinbarem Eingang beste Petiscos serviert werden. Zum berühmten Fado-Lokal: Dort kennt er den Menschen, der den Einlass regelt - und so kann man da spätabends entspannt ein, zwei Bier trinken und zuhören, was gerade gesungen wird. Mit ihm lässt sich wunderbar diskutieren, ob Mariza nun die legitime Nachfolgerin von Amalia Rodrigues ist oder nicht. Oder über Wein aus dem Alentejo und Douro. Und über vieles andere. Hugo hat einen weiten Horizont - ich habe den Abend sehr genossen.Türöffner

Hugo was very accommodating from the start. When he learned we were staying in Chiado he offered to meet us at our hotel. We walked around the area a bit where is explained Lisbon's history and showed us a few sites. We then went to a very small local Fado restaurant where he helped us order both food and drink and explained Fado. We sat through two sets of music (3 to 4 songs per set). Hugo is better looking in person than his picture. His English is perfect and he is very personable. Highly recommend this tour.Wonderful evening

Hugo the guide was fantastic with his local knowledge of the area and Portuguese history generally. The Fado performance was very good - impressive musicians. The food selection was varied and delicious - recommend the octopus fillets. The rooftop bar we ended the tour in was also a special "find"Great experience - highly recommended

From the initial time of booking, Hugo was in contact with me through What’s App. He made it incredibly easy to find him and he made everything clear regarding what we would be doing. My wife and I had a wonderful evening with Hugo. I lost the instructions about where to meet at time out market and somehow we found each other. His English was excellent and he made wonderful suggestions about what to do in Lisbon. The highlight of the tour was the multiple fado or should I say fadista singers we heard. There were multiple adult beverages, tasty snacks, and plenty of time to chat between performers. Got to know the manager of canto da atalaia and they were great as well. Overall a great introduction to Lisbon.Humble Hugo

Because it was our last evening in Lisboa, we already had seen a lot of the town. But Hugo managed to take us to some new interesting places. The fado-singing was very exciting and Hugo told us many details about the culture and background of fado. The tapas were very good (not included in the tour price). My husband and I had the best time with Hugo the last evening of our Portugal trip. We walked around a popular area called Time Out Market with local trendy restaurants. But our favorite part was a tiny restaurant with Fado musicians & singers. Great tapas & local wine. Hugo is very interesting, charming & really fun! Hugo brought us to some great spots for some great drinks and eats, and the fado was simply sublime!! I'm now a new fan, and he even sent me links to more fado music to enjoy! My only gripe was that he was quite late, as the rain forced him to change his transportation method. I understand that reason totally, but he should have said "Sorry" when he finally arrived. He didn't, and, honestly, I was a bit sour for the first hour of the tour. Things happen, I get it, but an apology goes a long way. He's a bubbly, chatty guy, though, and we ended up having a fine time. He even snapped our photo with the best fado singer of the night! Wij wilden graag het beste van Lissabon zien in een zeer korte tijd. We merkten al snel dat Lissabon teveel leuke wijken heeft en dat wij vreemd zijn in deze stad Zodoende hebben wij een tapas/fado tour geboekt bij Hugo waarbij we o.a. terecht kwamen in één heel klein Fado restaurant (tussen de locals) met heerlijke tapas en prachtige muziek. Dit restaurant hadden wij natuurlijk nooit zelf kunnen vinden en ook nooit zo kunnen ervaren zonder Hugo. Wat was het gezellig, wat hebben wij genoten van jou prachtige verhalen en uitleg. En de drankjes… nou daar hebben we het maar niet meer over haha…teveel lekkers geproefd! In één woord “geweldig” en de volgende keer dat wij weer terugkomen, dan schakelen wij jou weer graag in om ons rond te leiden door het prachtige Lissabon. Hugo bedankt, wij hebben genoten en missen je nu al! Je bent een echte aanrader 👌🏼Wat een top avond!

We went to Lisbon twice in 12 days. The first time, I tried to book a Fado music venue but it was next to impasible. We ended up at a good place but I knew it was not were the locals went. The second time, we went with Hugo. He took us to the “real deal”, managed the language barrier and gave us the inside story of what it was about to happen. We went to a serious Fado place, where the food was out of this world, the music true to tradition. No more than 15 people in the entire area (including singers, players). I would do it again! We had such a wonderful outing with Hugo!! It was an absolute pleasure hanging out together! Hugo is a very easygoing, thoughtful person... We learned many things about the city of Lisbon, Portugal as a country and the Portuguese way of life. It was so nice to have Hugo to guide us through a fun evening of petiscos and choose the fado place, which were all fantastic. As with any city overrun by tourists, there is an increasing number of inauthentic places (tourist traps!) around, and having a local guide you in a better direction is essential! The Alfama area is hilly with narrow streets I wouldn’t have wanted to execute the streets without Hugo. Easy to get lost. I highly recommend Hugo and his Tour.Great evening!

Hugo was an excellent host for our Fado evening in Lisbon. He was knowledgeable, charming and very open. His selections for Pesticos and Tapas were excellent. The Fado was a truly unique experience, unforgettable. In the end, it was Hugo who made it all happen. After that evening we understood more completely what it is like to live, love and work in Portugal. I would highly recommend Hugo if you're in Lisbon. He is incredible. If you want to enjoy true local foods and music Hugo is your man. He took us to a small restaurant and we enjoyed many local food and flavors along with wines. He was very knowledgeable and was able to answer our many questions. He also shared stories about himself and life in Portugal. The Fado singing was amazing we had a memorable time. If I say we had a great evening with Hugo it’d be understatement. Hugo showed us a slice of a nigh-life in Lisbon, taking us to two small and intimate restaurants for a barrage of tasty petiscos. But that was just a background to unbelievable Fado performance by a young lady singer (whose name escapes me). During short breaks between performances, our conversation zoomed between Portuguese customs, food, music, politics and naturally, football. Thank you Hugo for all your kindness!Highly Recommended!

Hugo was great! He arrived early and was so easy to talk with. Great conversationalist on a wide range of subjects, from food to culture and history. He took us to a series of great places and explained Portuguese foods. The Fado visit was fascinating at a place we probably never would have found or got into with him. Hugo was a gracious & interesting host. We met on time at Time out market & headed to a place in the market to try the local sour cherry liquor to start things off. Stop#2 was an off beaten place near Time out market that served canned fish / seafood items. We had wonderful conversation while walking to our stops as well over dining. # 3 was tapas dinner at a place in the Barrio Alto. Again more great wine & conversation. Last stop was Fado at a little place that seated only about 20 people & where he knew the manager so we got excellent seats. More wine. When we looked at our watch it some how got to be 11:30! Yikes! We felt bad we had kept Hugo out so late on a work nite but he assured us it was ok. He offered to get us a cab to get us back to our apt but turns out we ended our delightful evening just a few blocks from our apt, easy walking distance & he gave us excellent directions. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, Hugo's company & conversation & eating at hard to find places. If all guides are as great as Hugo we will definitely use Withlicals again! A wonderful nite!

Hugo was a fantastic guide - it was like being out with a great friend. Hugo is very personable, fun to be with, and of course, very knowledgeable of Lisbon and the Fado scene. He took us to a small tapas bar and small Fado places that we never would have found otherwise - and if we did, might he been a bit too intimidating to visit on our own. But he walked us in, chatted up the purveyor, and even showed us where to sit/stand for the best view. The fado was great. We had a wonderful evening together with Hugo. He showed us some beautiful places and restaurants and pubs in Lisbon, I think we haven 't found this places by ourselves. Hugo talks about living in Lisbon, and all other things. He also had a good feeling of humor. We drinked good wine and eat lovely tapas. Hugo is a very nice fellow but he seemed to be poorly prepared for our tour. It was a group of 11 people and a very busy Saturday night in the Cais do Sodre neighborhood. We met him at the Time Out Market which seemed like a really lively and fun place but he said something about hating the place so he immediately took us away from there. Then he seemed to wander around trying to find places to take us, and every place that he tried to take us was overly full or turned us away. After sitting around for a half-hour outside a small place for petiscos, we finally got in and the food was good, but the process took so long that by the time he got us to the promised little fado place that he had chosen nearby the set was nearly done and we heard only 2 songs before the singers left (and we were crammed into a corner, obviously no reservations had been made for us). Overall the tour didn't deliver most of the experience that had been promised. I hesitate to sign up for a tour with WithLocals or to recommend them after this experience.
