My wife and I had a fantastic day with Gustavo touring the Duoro Valley from Porto. He picked us up on time from our hotel in a late model Mercedes which was immaculately clean and extremely comfortable. His knowledge of the area and of Portuguese history and culture made our conversation as easy as talking to a friend, which now Gustavo is. We mentioned our interest in tasting dry wines and we visited two wineries with tasty offerings of both dry and sweet. He also stopped off at several view points to showcase the valley. We took great interest in watching a river cruise ship pass through a very large lock, a rise of perhaps 10 meters or more. We stopped at a lovely family owned restaurant for lunch and it was so good! We had the goatling with rice for two people and it fed us all. Gustavo’s wine recommendation was perfect! It was a full day of pleasant conversation and we learned a lot about the Douro and Portugal. Thanks, Gustavo! I will recommend him to everyone I know coming to Porto.Go With Gustavo!

Gustavo is very knowledgeable and we learned a lot on this trip. The scenery was breathtaking, and Gustavo showed us local places where the tour buses don't stop. Since surprisingly, there was no traffic on the way back to Porto and we arrived earlier than we had anticipated, Gustavo drove us around Porto and showed us some sights that we had not been to before. We cannot say enough good things about our trip through the Douro Valley with Gustavo. The drive is a long one, and from the moment we got in the car, he was asking our preferences to customize our trip to our taste and interests, while also getting to know us and share a little about himself. We felt like we were on a trip with an old friend, laughing the entire time and learning so much! The wine and views were absolutely breathtaking. We were 2 couples who joined Gustavo for the most spectacular trip through the Douro valley. Gustavo shared scenic landscapes through backroads and provided exclusive access to rural chic wineries. Gustavo is an excellent private guide. We went right through the Douro Valley mainly on roads off the beaten track. Gustavo is a wealth of knowledge about the history and the ways of wine production. Our stops where informative and the tastings well considered. Lunch was a revelation and included a special off menu surprise made to Gustavo's order! The restaurant was a small family run operation with an outstanding wine list. Our last tasting was at a friends of Gustavo's and the ports were sublime. My Mom and I were so excited to do a Douro Valley tour, and decided a private personalized experience is what we wanted. We chose Gustavo based on his many excellent reviews, and are SO glad we did. He was amazing the entire day! He picked us up near our Airbnb, drove to some great lookout points, explaining things about the vineyards along the way. We went to 3 tastings (including one where we had the place completely to ourselves), and a delicious lunch. WOW!!! What an awesome nine hour day we had in the Douro Valley with our local guide Gustavo! From the second we were picked up by him at our hotel for the drive to the valley you knew this was going to be a good trip. Gustavo is not a “normal” guide that you may traditionally experience, that just gets straight to the programmed blah, blah info on repeat. No, he gets to know you and mixes in the tour topics very nicely into relaxed conversation that covers many things . It feels like your spending the day with a very interesting friend. His demeanor, pace, knowledge, humor, connection and accommodation was perfect and a great example of what an excellent tour guide should be like. Once we got outside Porto and to the Pinhao area our route took us off the beaten path to one lane winding roads through the vineyards, stopping twice to sample varieties of Port . Stops along the way were great with spectacular views from different angles. Lunch was at his regular restaurant stop that was non descript from the outside but a wonderful surprise inside. This restaurant was recognized with numerous local awards. In addition to this great tour we were on, Gustavo even helped plan our next days itinerary in Porto with all the stops and order we should do them in. We got two tours in one!! We had an amazing day in the Duoro Valley with Gustavo. He picked us up in his sleek Mercedes and whisked us away to wine country. He had so much information about the Duoro Valley region to share and an added bonus was being a great photographer. The guide came to fetch us at our apartment as agreed in the morning and we had a great time, even though the weather was not really good. We went for the river cruise (luckily the rain stopped while we were doing the cruise), lunch at a local restaurant (yummy!) and then wine tasting at 2 wineries. Gustavo was unable to be our tour guide for the Douro Valley, but he asked Antonio to take us and he did a tremendous tour. We had asked to personalize the tour as we were interested in seek the Church of Our Lady of the Remedies in Lamego. It is definitely worth the time to visit this incredible church. Antonio was also able to have the caretakers of old Church in the town of Lamego open the church specifically for us and of course it was spectacular. We had a fantastic lunch, recommended by Antonio and then finished the day touring and wine testing at the most beautiful winery of Quinta Da Pacheca. It was the best tour we had in Lisbon.
