My husband and I love spring rolls, so when we stumbled across Elise’s private spring roll class and found ourselves with a few extra hours to spare, well…it was destiny! From the minute we signed up Elise was super friendly and helpful: she offered to answer any questions we might have about HCMC, make recommendations for food, and even book restaurant reservations if we needed help. So sweet! We met at a local supermarket in her neighborhood and as we shopped for ingredients she taught us about how food is integrated into the local culture. Very interesting. Then we walked a few short blocks to her family home where we were greeted warmly by her amazing mom and adorable dog. We sat at the dining table and started cooking right away, mostly chopping and grating, though I was “fired” from the latter because my grated radishes weren’t up to mom’s standards. That and she did it three times faster than me. LOL Once all the ingredients were assembled we rolled…and we rolled…and we rolled some more. There were only two of us but I swear we made 50 spring rolls! I was in heaven! Her mom then took them into the kitchen and showed us how to fry them. She made it look so easy, using chopsticks to fit far more in the fry pan than I thought possible. In no time at all we were stuffing our faces with the most delicious spring rolls you can imagine, wrapped in fresh lettuce and herbs with a homemade dipping sauce to impart even more flavor. We washed them down with local beer and somehow made room for fresh fruit for dessert. Oh, they also offered us some local sticky-rice desserts wrapped in banana leaves and stuffed with coconut, mung bean, etc. Heavenly! It was a fabulous few hours and we walked away fat and soooo happy! Elise, big thanks to you and your mom for one of the highlights of our time in HCMC! My kids (ages 10 and 12) and I really enjoyed this cooking class with Elise and her mum! Our meeting point was a Vietnamese grocery store and Elise took the time to show us some of the ingredients we would be using, as well as a lot of traditional Vietnamese snacks that could easily be transported home for family and friends. The class was well run from start to finish and Elise did a great job of explaining some of the cooking differences between the North and South. Her and her mum were also really good with the kids by being patient with them and assisting them in various stages of cooking. We can’t wait to start making our own fresh spring rolls at home! It was my first time in Saigon, waiting for my boyfriend to arrive (passport renewal), and a friend recommended to check out this app, which she had used plenty of times while travelling with great feedback. I researched this while in my hotel room, messaged Elise timings and then it was all arranged. So quickly and responsive. I met Elise at her nearby local supermarket, she showed me around, (the best way to see all of the fruits harvested and local delicacies), and she was able to recommend a few small treats that I should try myself with my boyfriend when he arrived. Made incredible spring rolls with Elise and her mother, must have made 20+ and ate half with fresh salad. She showed me step-by-step the ingredients to make the s rolls with and then helped me to get back to my hotel. So so kind. Always thankful and hope to visit again some time! I will be making these back home for my family and friends, the BEST I’ve ever eaten! Highly recommend, Elise is fantastic! Best spring rolls you’ll ever have

This was an excellent way to start our stay in Saigon! We met Elise at the local grocery store where we spent some time learning about local food and getting to know each other. From there we took a quick walk back to her home where we met her mother and started cooking! Elise and her mother were delightful hosts and the spring rolls we made were delectable. Elise is an outstanding cultural ambassador and you can see her love of Vietnamese food and desire to share it with others. We booked the tour for three of us with little experience in the kitchen, Elise did not let that hold our progress back and by the end of our journey we were able to successfully make our own delicious spring rolls. Elise welcomed us at the supermarket, where we did a round as Elise was telling about specialties and the ingredients we where going to cook with. We walked a few minutes to her mothers place. Here we where greated with tamarinddrinks and coffee. The next hours, Elise and her mother took us through the art of the springroll. Or that is What I felt like. It seemed so effortless allthough every ingredient was so thinkly cut! Suddently the hours had passed and we've cooked and ate a ton of springrolls. The best i've ever tasted as Well! Through all of it, Elise and her mom took the time to show us How to do it. Answered All our questions and inspired us. I Will forever be thankful to these two Ladies. With our stomachs full, we were promted to take a bag of springrolls AND a bag of bananas with us, when we were leaving. Im telling you. You won't go to bed hungry after this springroll cookingclass! We had a wonderful time with Elise and her mom. We started in the supermarket where Elise explained so many local items and helped us pick out some spices to take home. We then went to their home where Elise translated while her mom cooked and we learned every step of three amazing traditional recipes. The walking food tour with Elise was a highlight of our time in Saigon. Elise is lovely, articulate and provided great information about the food of Saigon, as well as some background on the culture of street food and about the Vietnamese people in general. We enjoyed all of the food, and there was so much of it. Most of the places we visited were in close proximity to Ben Tranh Market, but then we took a rideshare to District 3 which allowed us to experience another part of the city. I highly recommend booking a tour with Elise, and make sure you are hungry!!!Must do - Elise was a hospitable guide

Elise took us around Ho Chi Minh City tasting amazing local foods including Michelin star dishes with specialty corn and sticky rice. We had the most scrumptious and fresh green papaya salad, and crunchy Banh Mi with pate and fresh vegetables! Elise is knowledgeable and friendly. She made sure to avoid trigger foods that my friend has due to serious food allergies. We thoroughly enjoyed our time together, walking around the city and appreciating Sargon after dark! Elise was warm and friendly and immediately made an impression on our kids. We were able to ask all the questions we wanted about the food, and Elise really knew her stuff. She made sure we were comfortable at every stop with a spot to sit, and a cold drink for the kids. We tried so many dishes, and they were all so different in taste, a great variety. Her instructions for the meeting point we're clear, and she answered promptly when we needed to clarify directions. The only information I felt we needed was that our final food stop was not where we started and our kids were tired to walk back. However even with that occurrence, Elise helped us order a car and showed us how to use Grab, which was a great tool for the remainder of the trip. A great welcome to Saigon

Elise was fabulous. She was knowledgeable, kind and caring. The day plan was beyond our expectations. We expected a few snacks but we had four meals. All were different and covered a wide range of food and locations. She gave us a running commentary on life and culture in the country. Seeing more of what life is like for the people is so different than being in a mass tour bus. We are a bit older and she was careful to look after our needs. My family had a great time with Elise on our first day in Ho Chi Minh - she took us to lots of amazing local places that seemed really genuine, sharing her knwoeldge about the food, country & culture along the way. We ate a lot of very delicious food at places you'd never find on your own, so doing this tour with Elise was definitely worthwhile. She was also really accommodating to my youngster daughter, who isn't that adventurous with food, making sure she could still enjoy the local cuisine and provided us with more recommendations for the rest of our holiday too. I would definitely recommend this tour & Elise to anyone visiting Saigon - a must for food and culture lovers. Great introduction to local food in HCMC
