Our visit to Taipei was thru a cruise ship which meant limited time onshore and overpriced shore excursions to touristy areas. We wanted to see and experience the “real” Taipei where the locals live and do their daily routine. Judy and David were great! They dove us right into best areas that would have taken us hours to find on our own. Plus the ratio was 2on 2! My wife and I with Judy and David, you can’t beat that for personal service. If you rather be in a group of 25+ people being herded like cattle by a flag waving tour guide then don’t design up for Judy’s tour! Great Taipei Experience

My 13 year old son and I booked the street photography tour with Judy and David. It was fantastic. It was a great combination of expert photo tips and a food/market tour of Taipei. David gave my son and I some great tips on how to get better candids. He helped us with our camera settings and also helped us get comfortable with taking candids of people in public. Judy explained some of the nuances of street markets and bought us some delicious food and drink. We also did some time exposure night photography, visited a Buddhist temple and went to a highly-Instagrammable spot to get a nighttime photo of Taipei 101. I had an amazing time on the photography tour with David and Judy in Taipei, which I booked via 'WithLocals'. We hit both a day and night market, and I learned about street photography in a very relaxed atmosphere and enjoyed some of Taipei's best street food. David and Judy were awesome guides. Had the chance to do this photography tour few days ago. David and Judy are great hosts. David knows a lot about photography (check out his work @davidthomsonstills in Instagram) and he taught me a lot of tips and tricks on how to do street photography in night markets as well as light trails, etc. He even provides reviews and comments of my shots, making learning photography so much fun. Judy assists with the cultural aspects of the places we visited, as well as engaging with the locals during the photo session, and she is highly knowledgeable (you can look for Judy’s other tours on Withlocals - very exciting stuffs). I am a person who just started with photography and I think I acquire many new skills doing this trip and enriches my understanding about Taipei. Judy and David couldn't have been better hosts for a wonderful photography tour in Taipei. It couldn't have been simpler to arrange and Judy was super helpful in sorting out all the necessary details (where to meet, time etc...). Both Judy and David are great fun and it was an absolute pleasure to spend a day of our holiday chatting to them and learning more about the city. David provided us with lots of advice on how to get the best shots in the bustling market and was incredibly patient with us as we got used to the surroundings. A brilliant photography workshop and an opportunity to explore the lesser known streets and temples of Taipei as well as a few delicious local snacks, which Judy introduced me to. As someone who usually sticks to “picture postcard” subject matter, David was able to expertly point out potential subjects and advise on composition. What a wonderful day. Judy and David were great hosts who were easy to talk to. They walked us through many different, old areas of Taipei, way off the usual tourist route. Here we saw the real Taipei and the twainese people. David was so knowledgeable with street photography and how I could get the best shots out of the experience. Then we explored an old house and garden which had superb typical architectural features. So different, but so interesting from our previous time. All in all an experience that was so much more real than the usual tourist things. I felt that I was given a glimpse into the soul of Taipei and was able to capture some beautiful images to bring home with me. I spent a lovely morning with Judy and David wandering through the old and scenic parts of Taipei. They had carefully curated a picturesque and interesting walking tour through some of the iconic areas. I really appreciated the carefully selected path , taking into consideration some of the subjects of interest , I had previously mentioned . They are a great team with Judy focusing on many interesting stories and facts about Taiwanese culture ( including food ) and history and David focusing on ways to take the best possible photographs. I was really lucky to get a lesson in photography ( best angles, lighting , spotting interesting subjects ) and the best use of my camera, at the same time. They were both really easy company and very knowledgable, and made the morning thoroughly enjoyable. We had a great tour with Judy and David, including two markets, a temple, architecture, and night photography. David is clearly a highly skilled photographer and patient teacher. As someone that had some basic training with SLRs and film 20+ years ago I was worried I could not keep up. I had a lot to learn and remember and David took the time necessary to understand my skill level and tailored our trip as well as his guidance accordingly. He also provided significant guidance on how to use software to enhance the camera work. Additionally, he and Judy were wonderful in showing us more than just camera work, they also guided us to the best options in obliging our request to try some local flavors as we walked through the markets. A memorable, enlightening, and thoroughly enjoyable experience, and at just the right pace and patience for our six year old. We highly recommend booking them if you like/love photography and want to get a little local flavor of Taipei! My partner and I attended the Photography Tour with Judy and David. It was an amazing experience! I am new to photography, having just bought my first mirrorless camera. David encouraged me to step away from using auto mode and work in manual, explaining each step in setting up a shot, what to look for and how to adjust my settings. He offered many hints and tips, which he tailored to suit my level of experience. At the end of the tour, I left with many amazing photos and an abundance of new skills I am keen to try out! My partner came along during the tour without a camera, expecting just to shadow me, but instead Judy took him on a mini food tour around the markets where we were taking photos, filled him in on all of the culture and history of each area we stopped at, and offered many tips on where else we should visit in Taipei, ensuring he too had an amazing evening. I went on a streetphotography tour with Judy and David. David is a very good photographer and has a keen eye for all the great spots for taking that amazing shot. And Judy knows a lot about the history of Taipei and is also a 'foodie'. So I had 'the best of both worlds' and enjoyed it a lot. And I came home with some amazing pictures. They are very nice to be with too, so we laughed a lot. And on the spot we decided to take another tour with them. We went to a very local and authentic nightmarket and had a foodtour. David and Judy are very nice hosts. My boyfriend learn a lot with the session with David. The weather was not good and it was raining also. We stopped at a coffee shop while David explained about his photos. They even took us to have light lunch and spend many hours extra til around 2:30 pm. They would like to make sure that we have been to all places in the plan. David will also follow up on our photos for comments after the tour. I really wish we could make it to David’s photo exhibition in Taipei. His ink-water roses are so amazing. We got both good photos and good foods. Judy also offer to help with anything else in Taiwan as a friend too. Writing a favorable comment on the trip with David and a Judy is what I can do at this time. Always hard to write a negative review when you genuinely like the tour guide. Judy is a lovely woman and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her as a city guide, just not as a food guide. Judy is not a “foodie”. One of our stops was the 7 Eleven where she pointed out her favorite prepackaged foods! I’ve taken many food tours all over the world, and for the cost of $134 I expected much more.Disappointing

Great vibe and a perfect pace on this walking tour with Judy! Even though the highlight is a lot of absolutely delicious local delicacies, the tour taught me about urban planning and architecture, history, culture, farming, transportation, and geography! I lost count of how many different dishes we tried, but they were amazing and Judy was careful to listen to what my food preferences were and adjust accordingly... even though many of the sizes were described as "small", I feel like the portions were enormous! Easily large enough for 2 or 3 people to sample! 10 Stars for 10 Tastings!

My family of 5 and I enjoyed meeting with Judy .It was a very easy meet up because of her detailed instructions . Upon meeting her , you can sense the joy and positive energy that she brought to the tour . She has a very welcoming, excited vibe about her . We enjoyed all the food choices that she had us try . It was nice that she would ask us first how we would like to proceed with each tasting , making sure she was catering to our needs and requests. She made sure to engage everyone in our party , putting everyone at ease . The foods that she had us try were dishes we would not have tasted on our own , so we were very grateful for the tour . My personal favorite was sitting down in this small eatery that served fish balls stuffed with pork in a soup , with a side of vegetables and noodles . I also enjoyed getting in line to try the taiwanese burrito . The nougat crackers were also a big hit . All in All it was an enjoyable , awesome food tour . I recently had the pleasure of experiencing a food tour in Taipei with Judy as my guide. What stood out was her choice of destinations – authentic local spots that veer away from the typical tourist fare like Hotstar Chicken or beef noodles. A highlight for me was the homemade fishballs and the treats from a family-owned bakery. Judy excels in providing not just culinary delights but also a rich history of each shop we visited. Impressively, she quickly tuned into my taste preferences and adjusted the tour to enhance my experience. One area for improvement would be the number of tastings and beverage options. We had fewer than 10 tastings and only one drink for the entire tour. However, this didn’t detract significantly from the overall wonderful experience.
