3. 8.00 AM

   We meet and start our tour from Goregaon East Metro station.

4. 9.00 AM

   Then we proceed to Kanheri Caves, a 1st Century rock cut caves. Here one can see the second largest Stupa in India and beautiful sculptors of Buddha in meditation, there are total of 109 caves. These Caves are closed on every Monday as it is a Government holiday. Later we visit one of the 12 Tribal settlements to see how they live and also learn about Warli Painting one of the Tribal art which is thousands of year old.

5. 11.30 AM

   We head to a fishing village called Gorai island by crossing a creek in a boat.

6. 12.30 PM

   At the the island we take a Tuk-Tuk and visit the Vipassana Pagoda a Buddhist meditation centre and then visit a Portuguese style house and a fishing boat industry. Later we visit the Gorai beach.

7. 2.00 PM

   The tour ends and we head back to the starting point.

It was our first time travelling to India, my brother and I. Not sure what to expect as not many family/ friend has travelled to that country. Kiran was kind enough to explain, reply and advise us even before we confirmed his service. We met Kiran on our first morning in Mumbai where we’ve planned to travel in one of his many itineraries. He came with his car to ferry us around the outskirts of Mumbai. His calm and pleasant demeanour is the total opposite of Mumbai traffic, which is exactly what you need. De tour van Kiran is een echte aanrader als je het 'echte' Mumbai wil ervaren. Je komt op plekken waar je als toerist zelf nooit zou komen en waar je ook geen weet van hebt. We hebben dingen bezocht die echt schitterend en indrukwekkend zijn maar op geen enkele website of reisboek te vinden zijn. Kiran is zeer enthousiast en zal er alles aan doen om je een geweldige dag te laten hebben. Het was ons wel duidelijk dat het hem absoluut niet om het geld gaat maar dat hij juist heel graag met terechte trots zijn mooie stad aan je kant laten zien. Hoeveel tijd dat kost en hoe laat het uiteindelijk wordt speelt daarin geen rol. We zijn dan ook nergens opgejaagd en hebben overal ruim de tijd gekregen om dingen te bekijken en vragen te stellen. Zelfs nadat we de tour hadden gehad zijn we nog in contact gebleven met Kiran. Hij wilde graag helpen waar hij kon met het vervolg van onze reis. Kiran was firstly punctual , you are immediately struck by his charm and warmth and he immediately puts you at ease. Kiran suggested that because we had never visited Mumbai that we should change the original suburb tour to that of the city tour, and he was very adaptable at changing this for us at no notice. His knowledge of Mumbai was second to none , I asked him if we could stop off for a traditional breakfast of Dosa and chai and he was happy to accommodate.While it was a long day at no point did me or my fellow traveller feel rushed , it was just so perfectly paced. The Dharavi slum had to be the highlight of the tour , you really must see it. Kiran suggested lunch at the famous Leopolds restaurant near to the Gateway of India , it was fantastic and steeped in history. Because we had only just arrived from London the day before , we were a bit weary but kiran and his driver made ample stops along the way for coffee and water breaks. Lastly seeing the Dhoby was another big highlight of the day , being dropped off on a major road to see such a business practice was truly a memory that will remain with me forever. Kiran really did make our trip to Mumbai the most memorable he could , I could not recommend him and his driver anymore.I have travelled extensively throughout the world and Kiran is up there with the very best of city guides, book him and I guarantee you will not be disappointed.Fantastic tour of Mumbai

Kiran was a marvelous tour guide. We saw so much of Mumbai in 1 day. Everything that was important to me, Kiran arranged for me to visit. He organized a remarkable 8 hour tour. Kiran took me on a fabulous tour of Mumbai suburbs. The highlight was Kanheri Caves, centuries old structures made up of 110 caves. A seasoned traveler of the Indian landscape, Kiran has picked up some real gems speckled across Mumbai's suburbs to put together this tour. Starting in the heart of the Sanjay Gandhi National park, breath in the serenity of the 2 millennia old Kanheri caves. This network of a 110 caves was built and inhabited by the Buddhist monks between 1st century BC to 11th century AD, and has the distinction of having the highest number of caves carved in a single hill. A centre for meditation and spread of Buddhist ideologies and learning, the caves are a marvel of utilitarian architecture. They harvested rainwater by channeling it through ridges carved in the hills (which can still be seen) into water cisterns built inside every cave. The prayer hall in cave 3 with a large Stupa in the middle is a sight to behold. Also, a must do when inside one of the cool and quite caves is the Brahmari pranayam to experience the marvelous acoustics of the place ? From the Kanheri caves, Kiran takes you to the contemporary centre of Buddhist learning – the Global Vipassana pagoda built on an island near the Gorai creek. The central dome is the world's largest stone dome built without any supporting pillars. It is only once you stand inside that you realize its gigantic size. The pagoda also houses galleries documenting Buddha's life and his teachings through the photo and video media. Next up on the itin is the option of visiting a fishing village near the Gorai creek to get a glimpse of their fascinating lifestyle and its close association to the sea. The commute between the different venues is done, in typical Mumbai style, via the most optimal modes available for each leg and spans ferries, rented private vehicle, auto-rickshaws and the local train. The journeys are full of anecdotal tales giving you an insider's view of the city. Kiran couldn't have gone to more trouble to make the Mumbai city tour more interesting and enjoyable. Having a separate driver meant that Kiran and I could hop in and out of the car without worrying about parking. We visited all the main sites of interest in Mumbai so I felt I got a very good overall feel for the city... in just 6 hours. Buddhist caves from first century. Located in a national park outside of Mumbai. Interesting stops along the way including Dharavi slums (although we had a more extensive tour last trip ) . This was one of our best tours ever. We’ve traveled around the world and have used WithLocals many times, but this tour with Kiran was the best ever. We were docked at the cruise port overnight and we met Kiran as soon as we arrived. He was waiting right outside the gate as promised, which really makes its comforting when coming to a new country. We were off to a great start, and spent the next eight hours taking in all that this incredible city has to offer. Mumbai was nothing like we expected, and in one day, we saw mor then we ever had expected. What was really nice too, was Kiran had a driver with him, so we were able to hop out at a site, and he was right there waiting when we we done. Stopping at the Railway station first was a great move, and then on to some of the best sites in Mumbai. At every stop we were explained the history and details of each, and were fascinated with the passion and knowledge that Kiran has. He knows so many people as well, even in these crowded places, which makes visiting these places much easier. Some of our favorites were Mahatma Gandhi’s home, the old Morgan David Synagogue, the open food market with food stands galore, and the Overall Best stop was in the fishing village among the slums, located directly on the beach, and having Masala Chai tea with a local family there. PRICELESS ! You would never get to do anything like this on a normal tour or without someone like Kiran. If I could have booked him for another day, I gladly would have paid him double. It was that good. If you are looking for your best tour ever, this is one not to miss. WithLocals never disappoints, and we love using them wherever possible. This tour was a Ten. Just do it! We were so lucky to have Kiran as our guide for 2 whole days. With his excellent driver Suresh he showed us the real Mumbai with pride and amazing knowledge. With more time we drove to the forest in the suburbs which is a large tract of natural trees and vegetation There are wild animals including aggressive monkeys, birds and also tribal villages as well as the vast Kanheri caves filled with unbelievable Bhuddist statues and carved out spaces for prayer teaching and living. A centre for Bhuddism from the 1st to 9th C amazing! A visit to the Warli tribal village to see the local art was so interesting. The city tour highlights on our second day took in the Laundry the Taj hotel and of course the Gate to India as well as churches temples the Queens necklace, Malabar Hill and the hanging gardens, the house where Ghandi stayed, now a museum. But again the highlight was masala tea at the fisherman’s home right on the water. The fantastic Crawford market. Victoria station So many places. We felt we had really seen Mumbai beyond the usual tourist sites. Kiran was a wonderful guide who was so knowledgeable and rightly proud of his famous city. The sightseeing trip with Kiran exceed my expectations. Kiran not only showed me the famous sights like Port of India... He also organized drinking delicious Chai tee with a fisherman and his family in their house. This was really a highlight because it showed the Indian culture in an authentic way. The tour was never boring. Even when driving to the next sight there was always something to see and Kiran was always able to explain the history of Mumbai or some buildings on the way. Kiran set the bar for all of my other tours in India and none of the other three met the mark. He picked me up and dropped me off at the airport. Had a welcome gift for me - a toy tuk tuk - and an amazing fruit snack - think Mango fruit roll up but 1000x better. Kiran Chirayan was a great guide during our visit to Bombay on May 2019. His response time was quick even before we arrive in mumbai. As promised Kiran met us at our hotel with his driver at the agreed time and we set off for an interesting city tour. His knowledge about the city and country is vast and have answers for every questions... I have to say this, you will find the difference between a passionate guide and a tour-Guide when your with him.. He never let us alone by our own during any part of the tour while some other guides at some attractions just leave their guest to their own to go read and comeback what's written there. Where as we had a walking commentary all the time at every place. . In the beginning I was not sure if that's how the system works or not in this city... We did visit the major landmarks like Kotachi wadi - Portuguese settlement Mani bhavan Jaïn temple Story of tiffin wala - ask Kiran for his real life story.. Dhobi ghat Crawford market Victoria terminus railway station Leopold restaurant Taj Mahal palace Gate way of India Rajabhai towers By the end of this tour Kiran became our friend. Kiran was an outstanding guide and host. Good English and very knowledgeable about Cochin and Mumbai. Took us to interesting places off the beaten toursist track as well as the major sites. Recommended excellent local venues for genuine Indian food at lunch time. Car and driver also excellent with air conditioning. As an active-learning traveler to almost 100 cities around the world, I have literally been on hundreds of cultural tours with some good (and some not so good) tour guides. From the moment you meet him at the start of your, you will know you are in the best hands to be shown Mumbai's best-known --- and some of its hidden -- attractions. I rarely give a review like this, but with Kirin I felt so at ease, it was like meeting up to hang out with a long-lost college buddy or favorite cousin! We were two women wanting to see the real Mumbai. Very nervous that no one would meet us from our cruise ship. Kiran was waiting and made us welcome and feel safe. Never having been to Mumbai before we wanted to discover the city, not as a tourist, but as a resident. We briefed Kiran on this in advance and he rose to the challenge. Before we arrived he sent us a list of ideas and we added a few of our own. Kiran was charming, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful, even taking us to meet his wife and daughter at their home for a really local lunch. We mentioned to friends where we'd been to, and they were surprised that we'd been to places that they - as locals - had not heard of. First of all, Kiran was very accommodating with our schedule, as he picked us up at our hotel and dropped us off at the airport, which made things very easy for us. He was very punctual. Secondly, Kiran came with a very good driver, which means that he was able to focus on talking to us and give us explanations, without having to worry about the traffic or wasting time parking. But most of all, the tour itself was very interesting. Kiran is very knowledgeable and has a real talent to share his passion for his city. He was able to answer all the questions we asked. Wir waren im Rahmen einer Kreuzfahrt das erste Mal in Indien. Abgeholt hat uns Kiran mit einem Fahrer am Hafen und dann ging's los. Victoria Station, Campells Market, die Wäscherei und vieles mehr. Wir konnten sehr viel erleben, haben die Stadt zu Fuß erkundet und wurden dann wieder vom Fahrer aufgenommen und zum nächsten Ort gebracht. Das war richtig klasse. Kiran kennt sich super aus, erklärt viel und sein Interesse an den Gästen ist deutlich spürbar. Er hat Lust auf andere Menschen. I had a great trip with Kiran. Not only did he feel that i/we were special and even though we got to see places that are tourist "hot spots" he gave us unique insight and made the experience great. My wife and I had a 9 hour layover in Mumbai and instead of waiting at the airport for hours for our flight, we booked Kiran for an evening tour of Mumbai. Our concern was the Mumbai rush hour traffic and getting back to the airport in time to catch our flight home. Kiran assured us that everything would work out and it did. During our guided tour of Mumbai, Kiran was very knowledgeable of the all sights and very enthusiastic about showing off his beloved city. This was our first time in Mumbai, in addition to opening our eyes to Mumbai we became instead friends with Kiran. We learned he is a devoted family man, a charitable person and talented artist. As the title describes, I had an awesome day in Mumbai and I have to give the credit for this great experience to Kiran. Before arriving to Mumbai he was checking on me, he recommended things to do in the evening. The day of the tour, he was before the arranged time. He is knowledgeable of his city; he took me to the tourist is places and to others. He arranged for lunch in a great place and recommended the dishes. He was very patient in answering my questions or repeating some explanations (he was aware at all times that English is not my mother languageJ. We spent the whole day traveling with Kiran through Mumbai. He is such a knowledgeable and helpful person making this 9 hours tour my best experience in India so far. We extended the tour by 1 hour as we had the chance to visit also the Kanheri Caves in the north. We were lucky as we booked our tour on a Sunday with much less traffic compared to working days. This allowed us to move much faster from A to B so that we could add this great site as one of many highlights of our tour. I can very strongly recommend Kiran as your tour guide if you want to explore Mumbai.
