My friend and I booked a 2 hour trip on the Tagus River. Rui made it easy to find him in Belem at the dock. He is a perfect host as well as mariner, giving us his extensive history at sea, which made us both feel safe and at home. He catered the trip to do whatever we wanted to do as well as provided the most delicious cheeses, bread, wine, water for us. Conversation was interesting as he was able to tell us lots about Lisbon and the other side of the river that we hadn’t heard. He is a perfect gentleman and sailor and we recommend him highly. Wonderful Day At Sea!!!

We had a fantastic private tour with Rui! His 40 year old sailing boat was beautiful and authentic and had space to relax at the front and also below deck when the weather turned! Rui, with his extensive knowledge of the Lisbon, charm and strong sailing experience was a perfect host and I would definitely recommend to anyone else! We booked as a group of 5 ladies for a hen do from N.Ireland. Rui was so welcoming and professional and made us feel at ease as we had one nervous passenger. Rui showed us all the beautiful sites along the river and offered us some lovely wine and local pates, fruits and cheese to eat. Rui took me and my girlfriend to a beautiful spot just in front of the main square of Lisbon where I asked my girlfriend to marry me. I told him before we went on the boat what my plan was and he was very kind to provide the details (like a bottle of wine and tapas) to make the trip even more special, plus he took pictures of the moment I went on my knees. At the end of august i was on board with my two sons for 3 hours of sailing with rui in lisbon, river tagus. It was a very private atmosphere and rui is such a nice guy - his wife made spiced hummus / he had a glas of wine for me and the two boys (13 / 17 yo) ate the snacks we brought for dinner. They could move around on the boat and rui offered them to try steering the boat, they tried. Just good and what we were looking for - not the big tourism - just an nice guy and his boat together with us. Unobtrusive - having good conversation. A pity that we could not have a longer (day) trip to go to arrabida. We can highly recommend rui - we will recommend him to our friends and if we come back - we'd like to have an other trip with him. "great time / great value" - compared with the mass tourism offered elsewhere. Ideal for couple and familiy with children. Great Time+Great value=>would come again !

We hired Rui and his 28’ sailing boat ´ »Griselda » for a private three hour tour on the river Tagus. We left one time and began our downward sail towards central Lisbon. Rui is a lovely person, easy to talk to but also gave us our space to enjoy the views. We sat at the bow on a large « pouf » and we’re treated to an ice bucket with excluent wine, pate, hummus and toast and a lovely river view of Lisbon. 1.5 hours or so later we turned back towards port. Rui was kind enough to let me steer the stern rudder back. Another 1.5 hours later we were on the dock. An excellent day on the water and one we would recommend with Rui. My family - wife, two teenage boys and me…had an very enjoyable sail w Captain Rui. We met at the marina in Belem and were on the river heading towards Cascais in no time. One of my sons wanted to take a turn steering the boat and learning about sailing…the other wanted to sunbathe / chill on the front deck…it’s whatever you want. Captain Rui wants it to be your ideal trip. My wife and I liked hearing a local’s perspective on living in Lisbon / Portugal. We were offered several white wines and a light snack which we appreciated. The boat is a 27 ft sailboat…easily fits 2 couples or family of four like mine. Very stable ride especially considering the river is relatively calm waters. If you want an authentic and relaxing experience…while seeing the famous sights of Belem and 25th of April bridge (for Americans - Golden Gate II)…I highly recommend this excursion. Rui is een gastvrije, hartelijke man met veel zeilervaring en -kennis. In tegenstelling tot alle andere zeilexperiences, gebruikt hij de motor alleen om de haven uit te komen en vaart hij de boot alleen met het zeil. Wij hebben zeilervaring en kregen alle ruimte om ook te zeilen. Ook zonder zeilervaring kan je mee op deze zeiltocht. Rui bood ons drinken (sap en wijn) en hapjes aan. Het waren drie heerlijke uren op de Taag. Fantastische zeilervaring

My family really enjoyed our experience boating with Rui. Rui is a friendly, interesting, and hospitable man and was pleasant to be around. My four year old really enjoyed exploring the boat, both outside and inside. It was like she thought of the inside as a playhouse of sorts. She had such a good time she even hugged Rui at the end. My wife and I found the experience really relaxing, to the point where my wife snoozed for a while. In sum, we really loved the experience and would recommend it to others. Great boating experience

My partner and I had a wonderful afternoon sailing on Tagus River with Rui. There are a number of large operators offering sunset sailing tours for larger groups, but I had observed that most of them simply do shorter trips in engine power. I reached out to Rui, specifically because he was offering a silent and sustainable sailing trip on wind power, and we were as interested in the sailing as in the sightseeing. Rui organized a 4 hour private sail tour for us. As soon as the boat was on the river, we set the sails, and knocked the engine out to start enjoying the sound of the wind and waves splashing against the hull. We both really enjoyed the sailing and seeing Lisbon from the water. Rui handed off the tiller of the boat to me for most of the trip, and gave me tips for helming, and I gained quite a bit of experience getting a feel of the boat, the wind and the sailing. Rui's boat is very comfortable. He is very knowledgeable about sailing and he is happy to share his love of the sea and sailing. He had wonderful snacks, and some great Portuguese wines for us onboard. I would wholeheartedly recommend joining Rui for a sail, especially if you would like to get a taste of sailing along the scenic coast of Lisbon.Sailing on Tagus River with Rui

My husband and I had a wonderful time sailing the river Tagus with Rui, an experienced sailor who was the perfect host. He brought drinks and snacks, and prepared a large beanbag with blankets on deck for us to lie on comfortably. There is also a large built-in square bench on board, that would easily fit five people. Rui inquired about our needs and offered information, making us feel looked after yet he never imposed. Also, he adjusted the departure time at my request. Loved it!Wonderful!

We had a pleasant experience with Rui and his trainee. I was a little bit surprised that “sustainable” sailing basically means switching off the motor as soon as you get out of the harbour area and then drifting with the current, but maybe that was my lack of knowledge.
