We chose the 10 Tastings in Bilbao in order to learn more about the local culture and foods. Laura was our guide and could not have done a better job. She treated us like family, taught us about the local foods, and was very patient with our slower style of movement. She thought of everything as our food tour progressed from breakfast type foods to more hearty dishes. She even brought an extra umbrella for us to use since we were visiting from a cruise ship. Realizing our time was limited because of the cruise, Laura took us to the Guggenheim and assisted with a taxi back to our ship. Bilbao was a stop on our cruise itinerary and we weren't sure what to do so I checked out 'WithLocals' and found the 10 tastings tour. We thought this would be a good way to learn more about the city an introduce our children to different foods. Mabel met us by the giant puppy at the Guggenheim and walked us through the city sharing the history from a local perspective. We stopped at 4 different places to try local specialities. She was very helpful explaining both the sites and the different foods. We did this tour with our 3 kids, age 13, 15 & 17 and it was perfect for them! Our one daughter is still talking about the Spanish tortillas at the last stop! A taste of Bilbao

Eins vorweg: Mabel war eine wunderbare, sehr freundliche Reiseführerin und hat die Tour kurzweilig gestaltet. Allerdings lautet die Tour „10 Tastings…“; wir waren allerdings nur in 2 Pinxtos Bars. Zurück von der Tour haben wir die Beschreibung vorsichtshalber noch einmal geprüft und hiernach eine Reklamation an den Veranstalter gesendet. Leider haben wir bis heute keine Antwort erhalten, sehr schade.Der Titel entsprach nicht der Tour

I love having my mind changed. I went into our trip to Bilbao with expectations that I wouldn't like it. Thanks in part to Mabel and our WithLocals Tour, I can now say without a doubt that I love Bilbao. Our time was a bit truncated due to some communications issues, but Mabel made the most of our time and showed my partner and me a wonderful experience. As a start for our citytrip Bilbao, we decided to make a pintxos tour with a local. Jessica met us right ontime at the St.Nicolas church in the old city center. Despite a rainy evening, she managed to show us what the most wonderfull places to enjoy autentic pintxos and regional drinks like Cider, Vermut and licquor. During the tour she explained the history and recent Development of Bilbao. We visited small bars in the old City and more trendy bars at the otherside of the river. Due to a late arrival in Bilbao on our part and the end of a 10 day long fiesta in Bilbao, we rescheduled our Pinxoa tour to the Monday lunch at Laura’s suggestion. This was brilliant as the massive crowds had well and truly dispersed and even though some of Laura’s favourite bars weren’t open we still had a wonderful experience. We did a bit more exploring, up to the cathedral on the hill after our first Pinxos and then back into town for a couple more bars. Laura is a warm and friendly host and it was lovely to talk to her about her experiences in moving to Bilbao with her Basque husband 6 years ago. We would thoroughly recommend Laura as a host as she is also very accommodating in switching plans if need be and she also gave us a great recommendation for dinner on our first night. Traditional Basque food cooked in a lovely low key restaurant in the Old Town. What a magnificent host Laura is!

My wife and I combined the Hidden Gems Tour with a Guggenheim visit with Jessica and had the most delightful time. We started in the old city. Jessica wove wonderful tales of history and Basque culture as we trod the cobbled streets. So many centuries of amazing history of the Basque people ! We tasted amazing food, saw unique architecture and listened to the joyous energy of Casco Viejo. We then ventured across the river to the bustling modern portion of the city where we enjoyed fabulous pintxos, then headed toward the Guggenheim. At the Museum, Jessica was exquisitely detailed in her explanations of design and construction of the museum. She offered insightful interpretations of the exterior works. Her discussion of the meaning of the giant spider made it seem not so scary. Inside the museum, her interpretations of the exhibits brought us much fuller understandings of the art and the artists. Jessica's English was excellent and her mood bouyant. This was definitely a high point of our trip to Spain. Fantastic Afternoon in Bilbao w/ Jessica !
