Book Beata as a guide! That's the summary. The long version is: we have been to Hungary and Budapest already a few times so, we know the classic stuff. And Beata added nice local hidden gems to the tour, looked for less obvious stuff - even if it was a detour. Tibi was so amazing. I had an amazing food tour with him. He went at a perfect pace all the food options were items I would not have picked and loved them all. He mixed in a nice anount of history and even food history. I learned the difference between Hungarian stew and soup!! In the US we have it all wrong. He even shared personal photos of preparation. Emoke led us on a private tour starting at the Great Hall food market and ending near the Jewish quarter. We spent a good deal of time in the market first trying several typical foods such as goulash, cabbage and layered potatoes. Then we toured the vast market and sampled a few things along the way. We also learned about some of the local spirits. After leaving the market, we walked to a number of shops and restaurants to sample sausages, chocolates, traditional cakes, chimney cake and langos. Emoke was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the city, history and food of Budapest. We really enjoyed a discussion about her family history and experience during the communist era. Overall, we had a good sampling of the food of Budapest and learned interesting information about the history of the city. Beata was a wonderful host: welcoming, funny and knowledgeable. The tour was a fantastic journey, eating market delicacies such as strudel, salami, honey and of course paprika! But we were delighted to be taken to a restaurant for food and wine also, as well as being given lots of information about Budapest and Magyar culture, history and society more generally. My 16 year old son loved the street art, the ruin bar and the chimney cake the most; my husband and myself enjoyed the goulash and the conversation. Please don’t hesitate to book Beata for this tour as it is such a warm and insightful way to experience Budapest. I have offered to share our local delicacy (the Staffordshire oatcake) with Beata if she’s ever in the UK but somehow I don’t think it will compare! ;)Perfect food and conversation!

We had just arrived to Budapest and wanted to do a food tour to get our bearings and experience some of the cuisine. Beata was absolutely warm, welcoming and friendly as soon as we met her. She took us for some of the best local cuisine in the area, starting with tapas and wine. She even took note of my partners birthday and arranged a small treat for her, which I really appreciated. We knew from the other reviews that our tour with Nelli would be good, but they did not tell us how good! Nelli is a wonderful guide and her knowledge of Hungarian cuisine seems limitless. She spent time to ensure we understood all the ingredients which are used in authentic Hungarian food and gave us tastings of some of the more unusual ones. All of that before taking us on a tour of various places to find the best of true Hungarian food and wine, plus Palinka. Nelli did it all with patience and a smile, which made us feel more like a friend than a visitor. We would recommend Nelli and the Hungarian Food Tour to anybody. You will not be disappointed. Our group loves using food tours as a way to explore new cities and our tour of Budapest was fantastic; a great value with a knowledgeable guide and sampling several interesting dishes. Portions and variety were generous and we loved that this tour focused more on experiencing dishes at a variety of local restaurants rather than roaming the crowded and touristy food hall. Nick is a true local and shared his breadth of historical knowledge as we walked from location to location. I can not recommend nick highly enough. He obviously loves his country, culture and food, but also open hearted about what life is like for Hungarians, with a broad knowledge of how their history has shaped modern life and food! Gabor was a 10/10 guide. We took a lot of tours during our time in Europe, 3 of which were food tours, and this tour was high up on our list! Gabor started the tour by asking questions about what we'd eaten so far during our time in Hungary, as well as dietary restrictions. He was incredibly informative, to the point where the rest of our tours were redundant - it was amazing. He took us to a couple spots in the market and we had this amazing lavender lemonade that was absolutely perfect. Final note, Gabor organized the open mic scene in Budapest, and he invited us to come to one because I am a professional musician - I wasn't able to make it, but it really was a great experience. We left feeling like we made a connection beyond just food! Fantastic guide - rockstar!
