Emre was the absolute best! I am a travel agent and booked a food tour with him. Not only did he make the experience memorable, but he went out of his way to ensure our transportation was settled. He acted like a travel agent himself! The food was fabulous and so plentiful that we had to end the tasting tour early out of gluttony. Perhaps the most memorable was seeing Emre push my mom in her wheelchair up the steep hill to our stay at the Ritz. He made sure she was OK. Much appreciated. Our private food tour of Istanbul with Emre on May 18th was terrific. To minimize the discomfort of two members in our group that had sensitive knees he walked at a moderate pace and built in adequate rest stops throughout the tour. With Emre as our guide, you could feel his enthusiasm and know that the food and establishments had been carefully selected to ensure we got a taste of the culinary offerings that were unique to Istanbul. As we walked throughout the Beyoğlu district, Emre also provided the history and culture of the area and pointed out buildings and locations of historical significance. The ultimate professional, Emre provided guidance on what to do if our taxi driver tried to overcharge us and made sure that we informed him when we made it back to our hotel…now that’s service. We did the 10 Tastings of Istanbul tour with Emre through Cihangir and Beyoğlu, and it was a fantastic introduction to the city’s food and culture. We had the pleasure of experiencing the 10 tastings tour with Kemal. He was very flexible in the meeting place, which made the tour start on a very good note. We traveled on the subway (2nd oldest I understand in the world) and enjoyed several stops, including coffee of course and quince dessert and wonderful wine stop. Faruk made our tour start very easy by coming to the hotel to pick us up. The tour was really interesting and Faruk took us to places only someone who is a local could know. He paced the tour well for us. The food was delicious and authentic. We found it hard to eat everything there was a lot of food. Faruk has excellent communication skills and was very responsive to our messages prior to the tour and provided lots of relevant clear information during the tour. We had a nice tour with Emre around the Taksim square. Eventhough it was a food tour Emre also gave us an nice overview of the area that we were walking on its history and its significance. We visited a lot nice small local cafés and restaurants. Some which known more to the locals than the tourists. We did enjoy our trip with Erol who was knowledgeable, keen to share information, easy to talk to and friendly. My comment is, even though we had messaged Tolga he didn't let us know it wouldn't be him undertaking our tour. This makes the whole With Locals, 'Choose your Guide' a farcical process as we did spend a lot of time discussing and eventually choosing Tolga. He seemingly wasn't even in the city at the time so what was the point of having him as an option. The above being said, thank you Erol for your time and consideration on the trip. We enjoyed your company. I probably won't use With Locals again and stick with Viator. Tolga didn't show and swapped our guide.

Let me start by saying that it may have been an off day for our guide. He seemed a bit tired and said he had had a lot of work that day. Rather than compare the experience to what we might have expected, I'll compare it here simply to two recent experiences with food guides through WithLocals, one in Taipei and one in Prague. We had expected that the sites would be pre-selected and organized. They were not. We did not seem to be expected, seats were not reserved and the food had not been pre-ordered. We had expected that the sites would be local and unique yet one was a chain. The owners and wait staff did not always seem to know the guide. The food was not necessarily unique (a lot of chicken) to Turkey and the provenance rarely explained. The guide offered a couple of times to cut the tour short if we didn't want to walk or preferred to shop but that was not our intent. One our final night we had the ten-item tasting menu at a restaurant. Each dish was introduced, where it originated and how it was cooked. We remarked that this was what we had hoped the food tour would be. A lost opportunity. We still tipped the guide 20% as he made clear that he was saving for a house, caring for aging parents and working two jobs. TMI.Great Potential. Less Delivery.

Our food tour on the Asian side of Istanbul (Kadikoy) with Emre was fantastic! Emre is a very kind and sympathetic guide who likes to blend with the group (he remembered al our 9 names after 1 introduction!) and understands how to create a mixture of a great food experience but also some local and historical perspectives with the perfect dose of humor. He had an answer to basically every question we had and his English language is like a native speaker. Upfront I was most nervous about the 4-hour duration of the tour would be too much, but we all enjoyed every minute of it! Fantastic experience

Firstly we have to commend Emre for his responsiveness - our previously arranged Istanbul food tour got cancelled at the last minute and Emre agreed to take over at very short notice. Once we met at a coffee shop in the Cihangir area we got straight into the exploration and tasting of local foods in the surrounding streets. Starting with a selection of cheeses we went on to try various pastries, bulgur wheat kofte, pide bread, and Turkish Delight. The highlight was a visit to Durumzade for their terrific kebab wraps, and the evening was rounded off with (of course) baklava and Turkish coffee. Along the way Emre kept up a fascinating commentary on the history, architecture and development of the various areas we passed through in our pursuit of delicious tastes. We booked two tours with Ugur for our one free day in Istanbul. We combined the two tours over the six hours we spent together. We tasted amazing foods throughout the day while we visited the back streets of Istanbul away from all the tourists. We spent time in both the Europe side as well as the Asia side. Dit uit is de moeite waard. Je wordt langs verschillende eettentjes geleid, waar een gerecht wordt aangeboden. Vaak zijn het gezellige restaurantjes, waar je zelf niet zo snel komt en ook vaak voornamelijk lokalen komen. Dit maakt het extra leuk. De gerechten waren verrassend lekker. Faruk is een uiterst vriendelijke man die goed Engels spreekt, hij is namelijk ook docent Engels. We greatly enjoyed the 10 Tastings of Istanbul food tour with Emre. He was easy to talk to for all four members of our group and he was very knowlegeable about Istanbul, Turkish food, history, culture and architecture. The food we had was all good, especially the Turkish döner wraps. We also tasted real Turkish delight, fresh-made Turkish pides (pizza), fried sardines, mussels stuffed with seasoned rice, Turkish nougat, authentic Turkish cheeses, Turkish tea and more. From there, we went on to taste Turkish Delights, stuffed mussels, kabob wraps, Turkish coffee, Turkish pizza (pida), rice pudding, Baklava, fruit preserves and nougat (Helva). With each he gave us the story behind the food, and during our walk from place to place, shared the history of points of interest along the way. He was very pleasant and extremely knowledgeable and his English was very good. He said he normally recommended doing the food tour on your first day so that you’d know what to order, but this worked for us as it gave us time to pack up before leaving early the next morning. We had a truly enjoyable experience with Emre. Fabulous Istanbul Food Tour!

I had an incredible experience on a walking food tour through Istanbul with Emre, and I can’t recommend it enough! From start to finish, Emre was an excellent guide—so knowledgeable not only about the food, but also about the history of the city and the buildings we passed along the way. We got to taste some of the most authentic and delicious dishes in Istanbul, all from local restaurants that I never would’ve found on my own. Every stop felt like a hidden gem, from savory kebabs to sweet Turkish delights, and Emre took the time to explain the significance of each dish and its place in Turkish culture. It was a great mix of food, history, and local insights. If you're visiting Istanbul, this tour is a must! Wir hatten eine wunderbare Food Tour mit Ugur! Er hat uns durch die kulinarische Welt Istanbuls geführt. Die „10 Kostproben-Tour“ mit Emre hat genau unseren Geschmack getroffen. Danke dafür! Emre hat uns an Orte geführt, die keine klassischen Touristenlokale sind, sondern alteingesessene Restaurants und Cafés, die zum Teil seit mehreren Generationen mit einer guten Küche und traditionellem Handwerk überzeugen. Wir sind dankbar, dass Emre uns in „sein“ Cihangir und „sein“ Beyoglu mitgenommen hat und dass wir so viele interessante Infos von ihm bekommen haben.
