My wife and I took a food tour with Uğur and we had a most interesting, tasty and entertaining experience. Uğur had well curated the stops, making sure to satisfy our pescatarian diet. Our experience with Lorena was great from the beginning. She helped us with the fastest transport options from our hotel to the meeting point, an insider’s tip! This was an amazing tour with Erol Utgun. Olga wasn’t available but he sent his colleague and we are so glad he did. Erol did a fantastic job of guiding us around the asian side of istanbul and helped us understand the importance of food in the culture. Not only was everything we sampled fantastic but he explained the history and significance of everything and really helped us understand the neighborhood like a local. This was a brilliant evening, Emre was friendly, great company and very knowledgeable about the area and the food. As a woman travelling alone, I felt completely safe with him. And he made a real effort to adapt the tour around me being vegetarian and shared so many delicious things that I was far too full to finish it all! It was a great introduction to the Kadikoy area as well, Emre took me around most of the area and I got to soak up the vibe and learn about local architecture, art and history as well as trying foods I would not have discovered by myself. Highlights included a range of delicious mezze from a local deli, trying a range of pickled vegetables, street donuts, manti, and finishing with a tasting journey through 'proper' Turkish delight from the original inventor's shop. We booked the food tour with Emre pretty last minute, but Emre responded very quickly and was able to fulfill our expectations. He sent us a lot of information and tips beforehand. We met Emre in the city and did the tour on the Asian side. Emre was very open, warm-hearted and knowledgeable. He showed us some interesting spots and we got to taste a lot of different things. With every food he had some interesting things to tell and during the tour he also told us some other things about Istanbul and Turkey in general. He was able to answer all of our questions. Tricky start getting the ferry from European side to Asian side so good to know that you can tap your credit cards on the ferries and trams in Istanbul thanks to Tolga helping us out. The food tour was a great kickstart to our time in Istanbul. Tolga was a wonderful guide - relaxed and also knowledgable. We were introduced to true Turkish cuisine in a traditional, exciting environment around the streets of Kadikoy while also talking about the culture. 3 hours was just enough time and plenty of food! My food tour with Sözüm was everything I could have hoped for. Sözüm is a smart, knowledgeable, and friendly guide who knows her neighborhood well and has a great selection of eateries to choose from. All of the foods she selected were tasty, and some were exceptionally so. A feature of the tour that I really liked was that it progressed from light, easy starters, such as pickled baby melons and carrots, to more substantial dishes, much as you would do at your home. We topped off the tour with delicious sorbets, a great dessert to end on. Sözüm has extensive knowledge about the food she's sharing, but she's also great to talk with about a wide variety of subjects related to Istanbul--and about many other topics. And I should mention that the part of the city where the tour takes place, Kadikoy, is one that you could easily overlook, but it's absolutely a fascinating place for a food tour. Emre also gave me the tip of taking the ferry to the Asian side. A wonderful trip across the Bosphorus. A big thank you for that alone.
