Selda's knowledge, flexibility, and thoughtful attention to our interests made our tour in Kanazawa a memorable and insightful experience. We highly recommend her to anyone looking to explore the specificities of Kanazawa as well as the Japanese culture and history. Selda provided unique insights into the local life and history that truly enriched our understanding and appreciation of the area. Originally, we had planned for a tasting tour, but since we weren't very hungry and were particularly curious about samurai culture, Selda showed remarkable flexibility. She skillfully combined a light tasting experience in the samurai district with a visit to the Omicho Market. Selda informed us in advance that not all shops at the Omicho Market would be open on a Wednesday, but this turned out to be a positive experience. We discovered some incredible regional foods that we had never tried before, and the less crowded environment allowed us to enjoy our experience even more. She went above and beyond by helping us find a tour in Noto Island, despite the reduced activity due to the earthquake on January 1, 2024. Her assistance was invaluable and greatly appreciated!!! On May 10 my friend & I spent a lovely few hours with Monse. She was very knowledgeable, friendly and took us on an interesting walk around the Samurai district before heading to the market. At our request, Monse found a restaurant serving delicious tempura for lunch. We finished off with a gold leaf sprinkled ice-cream and white strawberries. Our tour with Criselda was brilliant. She communicated with us beforehand to find out what we wanted to do and laid on an amazing treat of superb food and drinks. The izakayas we visited were very different but also very special with distinct food and drink offerings, allowing us to be more adventurous if we wanted. Cris was a really excellent host - she was very friendly and very informative about Kanazawa, its food and drinks and Japanese society and culture in general. Cris also followed up with information the following day about places to go in our onward destination. We’ve been on a lot of food tours but we reckon this was the best. We had an incredible time on our food tour with Monse. We had two teens and two vegetarians in our group, and she was able to curate a thoughtful and engaging tour for our group. We did a number of food tours while in Japan, and we all felt that the quality of food and experiences on this one was the best. Not only is she knowledgeable about Kanazawa cuisine, she is also really fun to hang out with and chat. She also gave us several shopping and dining recommendations, and called a few restaurants to try to make reservations on our behalf. Also, as a sidenote, my daughter broke her leg just before the trip, and Monse was very mindful of that and retooled our tour to accommodate her. Monse is a personable & thoughtful guide

We asked Lucy to take us to see two Geisha Disitricts and the Samuri District before we did our foodie thing. She did. While on the tour she gave us considerable historical and legendary context on the three districts. We would have never had this perspective without her input. While in one of the Geisha Districts we also "popped into" a Saki shop and sampled 6 different kinds. Yum! By the way, it was pouring rain almost the entire time but we still had a great time. After visiting the Samuri District we went to dinner. This restaurant she picked was not a touristy spot but a traditional local favorite - that often was fully booked - we were lucky to get in. She chose so many amazing dishes it's hard to cover. I tried several dishes I would never have without a knowledgible person to guide me - the rest of our small group did too. If you're heading to Kanazawa give Lucy a try and let her know what other interests you have for your stay before you get there. She reviewed our itinerary for the next day said it was good and gave us a couple of pointers too. I'd certainly have her take us around should I ever go again. We're a "mature" group of four - if you are too I'd advise you to take a cab if you're going from the Geisha Districts to the Samuri Districts. We walked it with no trouble but we wouldn't have missed anything by taking a cab. Great Afternoon/Evening With Lucy

Monse is kind, outgoing, and communicative. She contacted me ahead of our tour to confirm and met us on time at our hotel. She made reservations for our meals (which is often necessary in Japan) and knew the owners of the sushi bar. She has lived in Kanazawa for 5 years and is very engaged with the language, culture and community. In addition to bringing us to restaurants to eat good food, Monse brought us to culturally and historically significant sites in the city and shared her knowledge on the history. She even dropped us off back at our hotel. We felt she went above and beyond to make sure we had an enjoyable and memorable experience. We signed up for a walking food tour of the Omicho Fish Market where she purchased items we were interesting in sampling and let us know the markets history. (she has a food budget) As it turned out, we had raw oysters and fried blow fish and ate at a very small sushi restaurant, but admired the "perfect" $200 USD crabs and other amazing looking seafood. Since we had time, we walked to two of the three Geisha districts (Kanazawa is the second largest concentration of Geisha next to Kyoto) and had gold covered ice cream cones and fruit mochi for dessert! Then we were off to the amazing Kenrokoen Garden, which is free during peak cherry blossom season where she let us explore on our own. Lucy was a great person and tour guide, knows the area and is flexible in her itinerary. Being from Europe, she speaks English/French/German and Japanese. If you like to walk everywhere, enjoy food and learn local history…this tour is for you. Amazing Kanazawa experience!

Yoji was the best guide ever. Before we even left for our trip, he had communicated with us to get our ideas for a tour. He also made dinner reservations that turned out to be our favorite meals in Japan. His tours (we did 2 full days with him) were informative and fun. He gave us time to shop and eat, pointing out the best bites and shops in the market. Even after our tours were over, he messaged us to make sure we made our train and then gave us dinner reservations for a later part of our trip. We had only 2 days in Kanazawa and booked Raphaël on a whim and I’m so glad we did. Raphaël took our requests seriously and filled our 3-hour tour with all things we wanted to see and do. He has a vast knowledge of Kanazawa and was able to answer most of our (many) questions. And if he didn’t know something, you knew he was going to look it up later for the next tour. Raphaël took us to the quieter parts of town and stopped by local artisan shops at my request. While Raphaël is not from Japan, you could tell how much he respects the culture and wants to learn as much about it as he can. Bei unserem Rundgang bekamen wir sehr viel Hintergrundinformationen über die Bedeutung und Geschichte der Geisha-Kultur und ebenso über die Entwicklung der Samurai. Was wir neben allem Anderen ganz besonders beeindruckend fanden ist: Lucy brachte uns in hervorragender Weise das Lebensgefühl nahe, wie Japaner denken und welche Werte sie leben. As per our request, she took us to both the Geisha and Samurai districts. Lucy was very friendly and easy to talk to. We highly recommend Raphael for tours in and around Kanazawa. My wife and I had a great day with Raphael touring the area around Kanazawa. Raphael is a charming and knowledgeable guide. He speaks English fluently (is a native French speaker) and is very comfortable speaking Japanese. He knows Kanazawa and the surrounding area very well, and is a curious and enthusiastic person. My wife has some dietary restrictions and Raphael was wonderful in helping us find good restaurants that could accommodate our needs. He was also really flexible and patient, and cheerfully made some changes in the planned schedule to suit our interests. We had a second day tour with Raphael, and when my wife wasn't feeling well, Raphael was very willing to pivot and the two of us changed our plan to include some hiking in the hills north of Kanazawa. Raphael has a very nice car that he uses for his day trip tours. Raphael was also really helpful in suggesting things we could do in Kanazawa on our own. We highly recommend Raphael. Don’t miss your chance of spending some hours with Selda exploring Kanazawa. It rained, we were late, one of us had just got sick and Selda was very quick suggesting how to best spend the time. Auf einer dreistündigen Tour durch Kanazawa hat uns Lucy ihre Stadt näher gebracht und uns tief eintauchen lassen. Sie wusste vieles über Vergangenheit und Geschichte zu erzählen, und wir (Kinder & Erwachsene) konnten alle unsere Fragen stellen. Wie war das mit dem Shogun, den Samurais und dem Kaiser? Auf welcher Seite läuft man und warum? Wie lebt es sich in Japan, wenn man nicht Tourist ist? Lucy teilte ihre Erfahrungen und ihr Wissen mit uns - alles durch die Augen einer neugierigen und offenen Europäerin und mit viel Wertschätzung der japanischen Kultur gegenüber. Sehr empfehlenswert.
