Seven of us, from the US, followed Sofia around the old section of Lisbon, where we received an interesting history lesson, as well as enjoying a wide variety of food tastings curated exclusively by her. From pork sliders, to cherry port, to sardines, mushrooms and chicken stomachs, to tomato soup, oysters, fried green beans, and ending with the best Pastel de Nata anyone ever had, we all thoroughly enjoyed our tour. We had the best first morning in Lisbon with Sonia on the food tour. Sonia is so knowledgeable and passionate about Lisbon and of course it’s wonderful food. We booked a food tour with Angelo after reading about his passion for history and his glowing reviews. We are so happy we did! Angelo was attentive to our groups' needs, thorough in his explanation of the historical and cultural evolution of Lisbon, and a true local foodie with diverse tastes. A tour with Angelo was the perfect addition to our stay in Lisboa. He took us on a fantastic wander around the city center, as well as some of its eateries, weaving history and gastronomy into a memorable stroll. My friend and I both felt we gained a unique insight into Portuguese culture, something which would have been more difficult to achieve on our own. We met Alphié the first evening we were in Lisboa where he took us on a walking food and wine tour. He is so knowledgeable and personable that we fell for him. He knew every date and year of what happened in Lisboa and never failed answering a question with all the history that happened over the last 1000 years. He told us we were going to all “medieval foods” that were popular in the Knights Templar time. Alphié knew so many people that these people welcomed us with open arms. He had us try foods we’d never had before nor would we have eaten until Portugal. We highly recommend Alphié for a tour..we promise you won’t be disappointed! We had scheduled a tour with Angelo for April 28. He adjusted the tour so that we could meet near our hotel (in Alfama). He was on time (even early) .. and we set off. We already knew some of the history of Lisbon from earlier tours, but Angelo added his own perspective and filled in some gaps for us. As we arrived at the first location, we discovered that the power had just gone out - and we unable to try the Pasteis de Nata that he had planned. This was no big deal, as we had tried them at Belem the previous day. We tried another location that Angelo knew, but they too had no power -- and we were slowly discovering that this was a major power failure, affecting both Spain and Portugal. We then moved on to trying Ginginha (at a little spot just off a square). We were impressed that at each place, Angelo clearly knew the owners, and seemed he was getting some special (faster) treatment. We next went to try bifana (which was awesome!) and then an empanada (also amazing). When we arrived at the wine and cheese tasting, we had a slightly bigger problem -- it was a small place, with no light - and there was already a large group at the only large window! He worked with the team there to find a solution .. and eventually we ended up right by the window. We wondered back over into Alfama for our final stop, at a lovely place a few steps from our hotel. Angelo knew the owner well (he came over and chatted with us for a while). We were supposed to try Pastel de Bacalhau there, but they couldn't make those without electricity -- so we had sardines on toasts instead. I hadn't tried these -- and they were actually very good. It was a challenging day, but we appreciated how Angelo made it work. Foodie Tour (during a power failure!)

With a last minute booking, we were incredibly fortunate to find Sonia. From the get go, she was enthusiastic and attentive. We traversed the city streets, stopping to sample local at haunts. Took a tour in Lisbon while on vacation, it was a good one and learned a lot. Pros - Amanda was the best! Great tour guide and very educated, good choices of historic places to try foods and good background on the city. Only Con I would say is this food tour was a bit different than others I've done in other cities. It is almost as much of a historical tour as it is a true food tour. Most food tours I've been on it's all about the food - the food history, tasting, etc; this tour is almost like a historic walking tour but with stops to eat Portuguese famous snacks. As I was looking for a food tour, it was a bit "off" but at the same time, this isn't too much of a negative as we learned a lot and ate some good food! Recommended! Good tour of beautiful Lisbon!

We had such a wonderful time on this food tour in Lisbon! We met our guide, Diogo, at a stunning overlook of the city—a perfect place to begin. Diogo was warm, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable about Lisbon's history and culinary traditions. Our first stop was a cozy restaurant where we sampled octopus salad, clams, and a fritter with fascinating historical roots (originally created by Jewish communities to disguise chicken as pork). We also had fresh sardines and appreciated Diogo’s excellent guidance on how to eat them like a local. From there, we made a brief stop by the Pharmacy Museum for another great view before continuing to Artis Wine Bar for more small plates and a lovely dessert. Along the way, Diogo pointed out historical landmarks like an old bookstore and a classic coffee shop. We ended the evening in a lively plaza with a tasting of ginjinha, the traditional cherry liqueur. We had an amazing day with Antonio. The unique pairings of authentic Portuguese cuisine with wine and history was an incredible experience. Coincidentally a nationwide power outage occurred during our tour, however, Antonio was able to use his connections and expertise to still make our day wonderful and memorable. We (family of 4) had a really enjoyable afternoon of local food and interesting chat with Andre in Lisbon. It was wonderful to visit some places known to locals for traditional food and drink and really enhanced our stay. Andre was full of local information and history and had a cheeky sense of humour! He also customised our tour and the options he chose for us according to our food preferences and to try things we hadn't already tried (one of us is a vegetarian). Angelo is awesome. He has vast knowledge of the area. We went to some local spots and he texted us tons of great places to see while we were in the city for 3 days.
