A great afternoon with Julian, we started in a local market and tasted iberico ham and manchego cheese along with incredible mushroom croquettes and cider. Julian then took us to a local bar specializing in their own vermouth and the whole experience is like going back in time. The interior was amazing and it is not somewhere we would have thought of going without a guide. Our next stop included paella, potato bravas, and the best tortilla I have had in Spain along with unfiltered Albariño wine. Then finally we had desert at a local bakery run by Annie with very engaging and helpful staff. Throughout the whole experience Julian explained the history behind each location and how Madrid had changed over the years. We thought the historical perspective was as valuable as the wine and food. Overall a great day, the food selection was exactly what we expected but I was surprised in a good way by the wine tastings. I would never have ordered vermouth as a compliment to food and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Tapas and the history of Madrid

Ari was wonderful. In spite of our visit being right in the middle of the Christmas holiday, Ari worked with us to schedule and navigate the uber busy street to have one of the best tours we have been on. Although we weren’t sure what to expect with a ‘food tour’ of the city, we got so much more and really got a full city tour with food. We highly recommend Ari, she is wonderful. Patricia was a wonderful host for our introduction to food in Madrid. At each of the establishments we visited, we not only learned about the food we were eating, but about the establishment itself. The food, of course was excellent. The walking tour was very informative. We liked the descriptions of the different neighborhoods, their history and what we could find in them today. I had high hopes for this food and wine tour. We selected Mateo as our tour guide since he would provide us also with some history of Madrid while taking us to places where locals eat and drink. We selected the time slot of 6-9pm on a Sunday since it was available. We didn’t think this would cause any issues. We were wrong. Instead of experiencing “The 10 tastings of Madrid” we mainly experienced a history tour. In the end we only experienced 4 shareable appetizers and 2 wines or beers per person. The majority of the time was spent walking past places that we would have eaten at if they weren’t closed, which was a lot of places. At this point I’m not sure who’s to blame—the organization that allows these time slots to be available or the tour guide who should have done a better job of planning out our stops to make sure locations were open or providing us with more food options at the limited stops we had. Either way we definitely DID NOT get our money’s worth the more we had time to reflect on the tour. It’s very frustrating to know how much money we spent for the small amount of food and drinks we got on this tour considering we had an amazing experience in Portugal doing the same thing but with completely different results. It would be great if some form of refund is provided due to fact that we didn’t get what was advertised. Skip This Tour, Venture On Your Own

When I booked this Madrid food tour I selected a native Spaniard. WithLocals replaced her with Eva. While Eva was very nice and had a good deal of knowledge, she was not a "local", but a Russian who migrated to Spain 5 years before. Her expertise was clearly history not food, as a couple of times she did not know what the food was we were looking at and most of her commentary was about history. Her English was heavily accented which often made it hard to hear when walking on the streets. The food we experienced was OK but nothing special other than the dessert. WithLocals has been replacing my choices of tour guides lately with non-native guides. In addition their prices have gone up significantly in recent years.Nice but not a local

The tour was a sincere pleasure for us! The food choices were very tasty and the context and history Ariadna provided along the way were fascinating and entertaining. This is an experience for people who want to eat like the locals, which means both high-end, delicious Iberian jamon, and simple, very freshly cooked calamari sandwich (yummy). Bring your appetite! Ariadna (note the spelling, it’s not a typo) is funny, smart, and personable. It was like walking around with someone we already knew, not someone we just met. She also followed up with the places we visited and additional information and recommendations. For context, I’m a foodie from Canada who has travelled extensively throughout Europe. One of my travel priorities is eating good food that is reflective of the local culture. You have to try this!

We had a great time with Marianissa. We hit about 5 locations for food and drink. All the establishments were fairly close so walking was quite easy. Marianissa is from South America and her English and French are excellent. She has a fun charming personality. Someone you would want to hang out with at bars. We felt the price was a bit high for what you got but if price doesn’t matter then definitely do this tour. Fun tour but expensive

There are not enough words to thank Marianissa for sharing such a wonderful walking food tour of Madrid! She was recognized and welcomed by every establishment owner as she crossed their thresh holds. She easily brought us in to the conversation, almost creating the feeling that we were family. It was clear that this young woman is beloved by all. Marianissa is passionate about being a tour guide and she welcomes the opportunity to get to know people from all different cultures and walks of life. She professionally and effeciently followed an organized plan and presented a wide variety of local tastings for us to experience. She shared knowledge about each establishment, their family heritage and how they these families continue to hand recipes down through the generations. The last place we visited, we happened to join a 52nd anniversary celbration of an elegant pastry shop, a business that was first started by the owner's father. She grew up in the business and she was graciously sharing wine with her employees, patrons and close friends. We had 2 kids. 10&6 Years old. The 6 year old was sick but it didn’t matter at all. For 3 full hours Ariadna kept all of us fully engaged. We learned not only about the food but also about the history, culture and Madrid’s life. 3 hours flew by. These are the comments from Oliver and Monica: Ariadna was great, charming, witty, knowledgeable and also spoke good English when required - Oliver is English with passable Spanish, Monica is Spanish with very passable English. She provided some interesting facts on Madrid and took us to the oldest hotel in Madrid and a tour of Botin, the oldest restaurant in the world. Nosotros Comimos calamari, jamon queso champinones con jamon y torrexnos washed down with beer. All was generally very enjoyable - excellent tastings of local delicacies, with wines and beer! I recently participated in a food tour in Madrid with my family, a group of five. Our tour guide, Patricia, was nice and punctual, which got the tour off to a good start. While we enjoyed the overall experience, we felt the food selections could use some improvement. For instance, we tried a cod fish bruschetta, which, although not to our taste, was something we wouldn’t have ventured to try on our own. Additionally, we sampled two tuna dishes, which felt a bit repetitive. The last stop was for dessert, and while the place offered free samples, it left us wanting a more memorable and unique finale to the tour. Despite these points, the tour did provide a good opportunity to explore different parts of the city and try new foods.
