Amazing food tour with Tanya Lisa!!! She came to our hotel to get us and had a fantastic walk around Oslo, stopping at local food places. Our favorite was the local seafood store and got a taste of every Norwegian seafood and meats you can think off. The owner was a great story teller with a great sense of humor. Our second favorite was a stop at Salmon with a taste of the best salmon I’ve ever had and a history and information on salmon farming. So interesting!! Tanya Lisa didn’t mind that that our time ran over and walked us back to the hotel telling us about the city as we went along. Best tour!!Best Food Tour

Enjoying our food tour with Karliss was like hanging out with an old friend swapping stories and tasting some amazing local food and drink. He introduced us to a wide variety of Norwegian delicacies which were always accompanied by a varied choice of beverages. Our evening was extremely well organized and we were never rushed through our meals. Over the course of our evening, Karliss shared stories about his experiences traveling the world and provided some informative information about Norwegian customs and current events. This evening was a highlight of our Oslo visit. Best food tour ever

We had a nice time with Tanya, she brought us to many different places and we got a nice variety of food to try. In a couple of places we even had the owner come over and answer questions. Only minor issue would be the amount of walking but I think this was self induced as she made some route changes to show use what we asked to see. Overall a nice mix of food and history NIce tour with some flexibility

The tour was a great mix of food, history and culture. We tried different types of local delicacies and unique desserts while learning the history behind each food item. Tanya knows Oslo as the back of her hand and shared great recommendations on where to go during our stay while ensuring we were making the most of the tour. Exploring Oslo with a local

70 minutes into a walk (with an unexpected dead end in a military base, a detour, a locked stairway and Tanya questioning the honesty of a kind hearted local) we had a taste of Norwegian proteins. Tanya was knowledgeable with regards to Norwegian culture, customs, and architecture, but failed at working with us and reading obvious signals that we wanted to pivot her (poorly-choreographed) tour in other ways. We even outright asked for changes which she chided away. We were a group of four (which included 3 adults and an 9yr old). At multiple times during the tour we requested to pivot or make stops, and she was abrasive, dismissive or steering in alternate directions. She ordered and pushed food on us which we clearly had no interest in further consuming. Simply put, if a group has tried a food and doesn’t want to consume it further, don’t go into a diatribe about how Norwegians don’t waste food… we didn’t want more sour cream soup, or molded sliced beef. I’ve been on 6+ food tours in other European cities (within the last 4 years), all with positive experiences, and all at costs lower than this (per person). I even discussed other tour experiences with Tanya and she reflected that “people do not typically take food tours in Oslo.” Okay… then why are you representing to be an expert in doing just that? I wanted to just forget about the experience. Write it off… but it’s been bothering me 900€ and a week later. I honestly think that if you are an older group and are doing an architecture or city tour you would have a fine, educational time with Tanya. That said, I don’t think there is merit in her giving a food tour. Guide and food… not for us

We appreciate so much when we get to enjoy a host like Michal! He was effectively communicative leading up to our tour and he went ABOVE and BEYOND to provide us with so much more than we expected! Some of the things we ate were genuinely some of the best foods we’ve had in our lives! My advice to his future groups, let him know if you don’t eat seafood. Fortunately, we are adventurous eaters and we love seafood, which is abundant in Norway. Anyway, thank you Michal! You’re a credit to WithLocals hosts and we can only hope our future hosts feed us as well as you did! Hope to eat and drink with you again! The Amazing Michal!

This tour was interesting - some of the local food was great and some not to my taste, but I’m glad we tried it all! The tour guide had a lot of information, and she was able to get some of the locals to tell us interesting facts, so that was great. The portion sizes were HUGE - way too much food to eat for a tasting tour. We didn’t even go to dinner that night because we had so much. I would recommend that the tour be a bit more curated and not include a stop at the grocery store, but otherwise it was a nice afternoon. The most interesting stop was at Salmon restaurant. You learn more about the salmon farming industry there and the different salmon preparations were amazing!Decent Tour

We had the pleasure of exploring Oslo with Marcela on the first day of our visit, and it was the perfect introduction to the city. Marcela is friendly, engaging, and extremely knowledgeable. She was happy to adapt the tour to our interests, showing us all of the different neighbourhoods, landmarks, and attractions. We came away with a solid understanding of Oslo’s history—its key figures and significant events—while also learning about the modern architecture and the city’s evolution into what it is today. Marcela’s insights into life in Norway, both past and present, added real depth and context to the experience. The tour was a fantastic way to get our bearings and gave us plenty of ideas for the rest of our time in Oslo. Marcela answered all our questions in detail and shared excellent recommendations for places to visit and eat—many of which we would never have discovered on our own.A Memorable and Insightful Tour of Oslo

As a solo traveler new to Norway, I was searching for a guide who could truly unlock the magic and mysteries of this beautiful country. Tanya Lisa exceeded my expectations on all fronts. Tanya's love and passion for Norway are obvious within five minutes of meeting her. She doesn't just offer tours; she carefully curates experiences that perfectly blend a visitor's interests with her extensive knowledge of Norway's rich history and culture. Her conscientious approach ensures that each tour is unique and meaningful. I was particularly interested in Norwegian cuisine, and Tanya arranged an incredible food tasting tour. We visited six establishments that beautifully showcased the evolution of Nordic food, all the way from the Viking age to the present day. Her ability to tailor such a specific and fascinating experience made my trip truly unforgettable. I highly recommend Tanya Lisa to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, passionate, and dedicated guide. An unforgettable experience

Our tour guide, Tanya Lisa, delivered some of the most quotable lines of our Scandinavian adventure. “What does it cost to live here?” “What do you think?” 🫥 “Where do you recommend buying a Norwegian sweater?” “Norway.” “We’re doing a sailing tour later.” “That’s not really sailing.” Tanya Lisa seemed to us to have what we’ve learned is a typical Norwegian social attitude, which is straightforward and occasionally harsh. I think our conversations just sort of crossed paths in the same directions without quite meeting at a point of really understanding. The variety of food was more or less what we imagined. The first stop was very traditional and memorable. At the last one, her coupons didn’t cover the four cappuccinos she had offered, so we got two cappuccinos and two coffees. We won’t ever forget this tour, but we also wouldn’t recommend it strongly.Real food, real blunt

We arrived to Oslo on a cruise ship but we wanted a smaller private tour of the city. She met us near the ship and did not disappoint. Went spent three hours with her and during that time were walked to three areas of the city. She helped us understand history and the current conditions. She gave us good pointers so that when we went back to points of interest that we made the most of the time we had in the city. She was knowledge and pleasant. We had a good tour and it fulfilled our expectations. It was nice to step away from the crowds of the cruise ship and do something at own on pace that focused on our interest. We enjoyed our time with Karlis. He customized our tour to exactly what we wanted: a look at the major “must see’s” of Oslo combined with a stroll through the older less touristy areas where we experienced the local culture close up. We even hit a flea market and a unique little waffle house. Great walking tour of Oslo!

Ihor was great! He met us downtown at a local coffee house then took us on a very extensive walk for 2 hrs around town. We learned all about the history of Oslo and the relationship between Norway and its neighboring countries. We saw the parliament, the castle, the university and a number of other very interesting and historic buildings and areas. We also visited a shopping center and the oldest department store. We walked slowly, and Ihor was very accommodating and able to keep us moving forward but at a pace that worked perfectly for us. We recommend Ihor if you want a great historic or architectural tour of Oslo.So knowledgeable!

Michal was a fun, energetic, and easy-to-talk-with guide who made our food walking tour enjoyable and memorable. We especially liked the impromptu gin and aquavit tastings, which added a spontaneous and fun touch to the experience. That said, if we tour again we will request the tour focus more on local hidden gems—small eateries where locals dine—rather than tourist-focused spots.Fun and Impromptu

We can’t say enough good things about our time with Karlis. Our tour was well thought out, and he not only helped us to get a great picture of main sites to see, but hel also gave us a lot of insight into the culture of the beautiful city of Oslo. We definitely recommend doing this tour on your first day in Oslo because Karlis will fill you in with lots of things/ideas that you can then go and do on your own. He was also extremely thoughtful and gave us tickets to use the buses, boats and rails. He explained it to us, so it was super easy to navigate around the city on our own the next two days that we were there. Thank you!!! And 100% try the Skaagen!!! Karlis tour was EXCELLENT!

Having worked in the travel industry, I've done thousands of walking tours, but I have to say that Ihor was fabulous and we all loved our time with him. Not only was he informative, but he was also kind, thoughtful, and interesting - plus he showed us things we'd never seen, and we had all been to Oslo many times over the past 20-30 years. He planned a route that was great for all 4 of us, including my 92-year old mother, and even my stepfather was impressed - and he's worked in travel since the 1970s! So well done! Thank you!! We all highly recommend him! Great guide and walking tour

Tanya Lisa has a decidedly local perspective on all things Norway and Oslo. We enjoyed a special hangout for a coffee where se shared local chocolate, brown cheese and bread. The decor was amazing, a quite place to reflect and view many photos of Oslo from years past. We shared two types of "hot dogs" on flat bread (?), gratefully *not* buns we'd seen elsewhere. We were also were taken to an exceptional fish and meat store on the waterfront. There the owner gave us several different slices of sausages and salmon to enjoy, describing each with the family care put into the preparation of each. A true delight of senses, both visual and taste. Tanya, was perhaps a bit too enthusiastic, walking and talking quickly, but then again she offered many times to slow, we just couldn't because we were very interested in everything she had to say about the local foods, history, and culture. Be prepared to walk 6+ miles with her, she's a real dynamo!Great day of tasting and learning

Tanya Lisa is a very nice person, but I think she could improve as a guide in a number of ways. Felt like if I didn’t ask questions we didn’t get a lot of information and in fact over a three hour tour she was asking me what other questions I had more than a few times, so I felt like if I didn’t ask questions I’m not sure what we would learn. When I stopped asking questions she challenged me and said what other questions do I have. Was hoping for more of a guided tour teaching us about Oslo its history and landmarks. Would’ve liked a little more structure to the tour as we had not done a lot of research on Oslo and was hoping to spend the three hours to learn as much as we could. Felt like she was trying to adapt to what we wanted, and we were looking for somebody to lead the way. Very nice person but not the best tour
