My sons and I have a wonderful evening with Lisa. Lisa showed us around, tasting various local food, she is very knowledgeable of the local areas, cultures and food. If it weren’t for her, we would have missed out on quite a few lovely snacks. Lisa goes out of her way to make walking around interesting. Before booking the tour I was already in contact with Lisa regarding the options of the tour, as my boyfriend has a knee injury and is unable to walk for hours. Lisa assured me that with a few adjustments to the tour this would not be a problem. The tour was a private tour and Lisa did a fantastic job, she told us many stores about the food, the eating customs in Penang and we had great food. She arranged that we could sit at various places and enjoy the food, the distance of walging was no issue at all. We tried many different foods and drinks at places that normally you might pass by (as you do not know what it is they are selling). The last stop was at the night market with again maby things to try. We were stuffed afterwards, so we walked shortly afterwards before returning to our hotel fulfilled with a great experience. Our tour with Lisa was absolutely brilliant. She took us to a mix of different street food stalls and restaurants, and ordered us incredible dishes that showed the many cultures, flavours and ingredients of Penang. We very much enjoyed all the food we tried, particularly getting a fast-track past the queue to try the famous laksa which was delicious. Our guide was welcoming and very chatty, however this led to a slow pace to the tour with our guide chatting for a while even when we had finished eating and were trying to indicate we wanted to move on. This led to our tour lasting around 4 hours, 1 hour longer than advertised with only 7 stops hit.Great food but slow pace

Lisa was a wonderful and knowledgable guide who showed us local food spots that we never would have discovered on our own! Our three kids - ages six to ten - enjoyed the outing very much as Lisa made sure to add and enough pit stops for sweets. There's not enough words to describe how much I enjoyed my tour with Lisa. Firstly, Lisa is a fantastic tour guide who really caters the experience to the person. Whilst, we did avoid the things I often don't enjoy, she did encourage me to try things that I would not normally ever buy. As we are planning to stay in Georgetown, Panang for several days, we really wanted some good advice about what and where to eat locally, rather than stick to the 'safe', overpriced and usually watered down food sold in the main tourist areas. Remy started the tour by double checking our dietary needs, likes and dislikes and then took us on a thorough tour of street food venues. At each he gave a thorough explanation as to why it was a good one and what other dishes we should try if we went back by ourselves, as well as the best way to eat them. It's amazing what a difference it makes to mix certain things together rather than eat separately! Remy also explained about the local history and religions, which helped us to focus on eating the range of delicious dishes he ordered for us. The whole tour was well planned and paced so that we had 'rest' drinks and snacks between larger dishes so that we didn't get uncomfortably full. As well as showing us a range of places to go to for drinks afterwards, and introducing us to staff there, he also pointed venues to avoid for various reasons. By the end of the tour, we had several bags of sweets, snacks and a meal to take with us, to enjoy later once we were hungry again. All were delicious and interesting and we returned today to buy more. The tour definitely fulfilled its purpose for us and it was really enjoyable spending time with such a friendly and passionate local like Remy. We'd thoroughly recommend him as a guide. I found Lisa really knowledgable and willing to share her expertise with the group. We went on a very hot day. It would be good to know the whole menu ahead of time as to what is to come. Die Kommunikation mit Lisa im Vorfeld war unkompliziert und sehr persönlich. Mit einem indischen Frühstück gings los und Lisa erzählte von dem Leben in George Town, gab uns ein paar Einblicke backstage und immer wieder gabs was zu probieren: Obst, Sweets, Samosas, Gebäck und vieles mehr. Nach mehr als 3 Stunden in großer Hitze noch ein chinesiches Desert am Straßenrand und dann wars leider schon vorbei. This could have been a wonderful experience, unfortunately it felt like not a lot of effort was put into organizing our tour. 10 tastings was a bit of a misnomer. About half of the tastings were a bag of sweets thrown together at the end. The food we did try was interesting and I can tell Remy is knowledgeable, but overall, the tour was lacking in professionalism and did not live up to expectations. What we got offered, I can not recommend.Missed opportunity.

Excellent tour with Remy. He customised an Off The Beaten Track (street art) x food tour for us. Great mix, saw things we may not have come across on our own as well as ate things we wouldn’t have ordinarily tried. Enjoyed some of the food that we went back for more the next day! Remy also owns a café. Although he doesn’t take you there on the tour, we were intrigued and had a small meal there on our own which we also enjoyed.

Our booking through Withlocals started off poorly as the original guide (Sam) just cancelled on us. No explanation. No apologies. On reflection this turned out for the best. Remy met us on a delightful evening in January. It was our first trip to Penang, and Malaysia, and we were excited to get to grips with one of the street food capitals of the world. Remy is friendly, approachable, and incredibly entrenched in Penang's food scene. Everywhere we walked, he knew exactly what was available, and stallholders and restaurateurs greeted him with familiarity. He was able to treat us to some specific delights that, even though we hail from Melbourne, a city that has a huge food scene, we'd never encountered. We finished the evening at one of the many street food markets in Georgetown, and Remy was kind enough to walk us around the corner to a cocktail bar for some after tour tipple at a place owned by a friend of his. That's what stood out for me, from this tour. Everywhere we went, we were being introduced to Remy's friends, and they were making sure that we got the very best food on offer. Next time we head to Penang, we're going to know exactly where to find the best laksa, char kway teow and chicken satay. We originally booked this tour with another guy who’s a guide on withlocals and then booked our hotel so that we were staying close to the tour start location. Then the guide contacted us to say that the start location was changed and that someone else would be our guide… then 2-3 days before the tour he cancelled on us saying that his team was sick… it made us really mistrust withlocals but then Remy accepted to take over our booking and we wish we’d just booked him to start with - he’s an honest, and highly personable guide who made the effort to make a close connection with us from the outset. He shares all his own experiences of living and working in Georgetown and everywhere we went people knew him so it was easy to trust him quickly. He asked if we wanted to try something in particular but we gave him a blank canvas with no dietary restrictuons which definitely made for the best range of food to try. We tried some amazing food and drinks in places we’ll definitely be going back to visit, and he answered all our questions, providing a highly engaging commentary and fun experience. When we come back to Penang, we’ll definitely be booking a tour with Remy… if you’re thinking about which guide to book, don’t! As a small family with 2 boys of 12 and 14 we had some great hours with Remy who introduced us to both history and food culture.
