Janis was a wonderful guide; braving the inclement weather to provide a full day tour all around the city for my first foray into Riga! Margita is a very competent guide with a lot of knowledge both in art history and in gastronomy. She showed me the highlights of Rīga and added many unknown aspects so that it was really a pleasure to listen to her. We also went to some culinary places where she could explain the peculiarities of the Latvian cuisine in a brilliant manner. Went on a food tour with Janis. He was amazing, knowledgeable, and personable. The problem was the tour itself. We usually go on food tours when we visit new cities and the problem was this - there wasn't much food! We heard a lot about typical latvian dishes, but never got to try them - black balsam, kvass, dumplings, rye bread pudding. The food we did eat was great, but the portions were so much smaller than we expected. We have left other food tours actually stuffed! But this food tour was more like a handful of snacks.
